Unique touches blend art and practicality with hand-crafted stair railing and a tiled walk-in shower in a secluded location to create a welcoming and peaceful place to unwind alone or with your family and friends. Annual Trip to the Deerling

The Deerling is the best place and most fun I’ve ever had. Owner was great and super friendly, place was clean, plenty of room, quiet and relaxing. Couldn’t ask for a better place to stay.

Comfortable cabin, peaceful location

This cozy cabin made for an excellent home base during a recent family girls’ trip to the Helvetia and Pickens areas. The large bathroom adequately accommodated three women and was stocked with plenty of towels. Beds were comfortable and dressed with soft linens. We thoroughly enjoyed the cabin’s peaceful and secluded setting, accessed by an easily navigable drive. I appreciated the value of this rental along with the owner’s excellent communication and would not hesitate to stay here again.

A real gem

Absolutely wonderful place! Peaceful, so relaxing. Lots of deer each day. We would recommend it highly for anyone looking to unplug and getaway. We will definitely return for another stay!

AMAZING

I loved the stay. The cabin is perfect for off the grid living. Everything was above and beyond my expectations!! I highly recommend if you want to get away from it all The Deerling is the place to go.

Secluded, Peaceful and Gorgeous

We were spending a few days attending a local festival and by God’s Grace found this gorgeous property. Extremely clean, rustic decor, very comfortable. Fun games, good wifi, and we had a blast with Deer Pong. Enjoy the wildlife which visits, including deer and a very inquisitive hummingbird! Cows watch you from the lower pasture. I would recommend for anyone looking for secluded peace! Bring food. Nearest grocery is a hike!

Our family enjoyed the natural setting of the cabin. The kids enjoyed playing with the games and the exploring the property. It was a great chance for our family to unplug and recharge.

Our stay was wonderful. No phonecalls could come in or out but we enjoyed that extra quiet. The WiFi helped with maps and boredom. The Coe county store down the road was really nice. Great food and prices without having to go too far. We did Fasnacht this year and this place was close by which helped greatly! The steep incline to get to the cabin shocked us at first but we soon mastered it.

Middle of nowhere

Very much in the middle of nowhere. Long drive to everywhere. Did not have internet the first couple of days because we were emailed the wrong password. Once we got that straightened out, the internet worked great.

I was surprised to have to make my own bed when we arrived

There are plenty of beds for the number of guests advertised, but the "commons" area cramped. We could not all eat at the table together. No room in the kitchen to cook when someone sitting at the table

Short getaway

Everything went smoothly from checking in and out. As stated the property is isolated but that was part of the allure. We visited Green Bank observatory, West Virginia wildlife center and Audra state park. Travelled from Pittsburgh area and stopped at Tygart lake and enjoyed the floatables on the lake for some good fun. So numerous things to do as well as night time fires at the cabin. Definitely recommend!

A perfect break from the world

My husband and I visited some friends in the area during the July 4th week. This cabin is the perfect accommodation. It is tucked away but easy to get to, surrounded by nature but equipped with all the modern amenity one would need even during an extended stay. It doesn’t look it from the outside but is actually quite spacious! It is so clean and tastefully decorated, and I felt at home and at ease right away. Communication with the host is easy and fast. Would definitely rent a cabin from Sheryl and Derek again!

I inherited Big Run Respite’s land, and it is important to me to be able to me to carry on our family’s legacy of loving and living a simple life in the woods, so that's why we built The Deerling- to share the simple life off the beaten path.

Pourquoi avoir choisi cet hébergement ?

Several locations were considered as the first build site, but we settled here on this knoll in the ferns and ground pine. When I initiated our goal by sawing down the first tree, I knew this was the perfect location to find peace and rest for restoration.

Quels sont les atouts de cet hébergement ?

We built a small pond close to this cabin so guests could enjoy its peace and solitude and being able to catch critters and fish (and then release our fish back into our pond ;), and we ran saw mills to saw the lumber for the exterior, so this structure is solid!
It is so quiet in this location, and near a grove of majestic hemlock pines (my own source of restoration).
