Sweet Afton is a charming historic cottage offering a peaceful retreat in the heart of Afton's renowned wine and beer country. Set on 1.55 fenced-in acres with beautiful Blue Ridge Mountain views, this thoughtfully updated two-bedroom, one-bathroom home provides the perfect balance of countryside tranquility and convenient access to some of Central Virginia's best experiences. Whether you are visiting for a vineyard wedding at nearby Veritas Vineyards, exploring the Route 151 brewery trail, hiking in Shenandoah National Park, or simply looking for a relaxing escape, Sweet Afton offers an unforgettable home base.

The cottage blends historic character with modern comfort, featuring updated kitchen appliances, central heating and air, high-speed 1 gig internet, and tasteful furnishings throughout. The spacious layout is filled with natural light and enhanced by 10-foot ceilings and large windows showcasing the surrounding landscape. The fully equipped kitchen includes everything needed to prepare meals, while the dining room comfortably seats six and features large bay windows with beautiful southwest-facing mountain views. The home includes two queen bedrooms, a full bathroom, and a cozy living room with a pull-out sofa, TV, desk, and seasonal gas fireplace.

Outdoor living is one of the highlights of Sweet Afton. Guests can enjoy morning coffee on one of the two covered porches, relax in the hammock, gather around the outdoor fire pit, or grill and dine while taking in the mountain views. Located just minutes from Veritas Vineyards, the Blue Ridge Tunnel Trail, and Shenandoah National Park, Sweet Afton offers the perfect combination of peaceful countryside living and easy access to Virginia's best wineries, breweries, hiking trails, and outdoor adventures. Up to two dogs are welcome with prior approval and a pet fee.

Loved this property! We live in a resort town by the beach and just wanted to escape the traffic and congestion. This was the perfect property for our getaway! I couldn’t wait to turn the A/C down so the gorgeous cross breeze could roll in from the wooden screen doors while I cooked breakfast and enjoyed the mountain views. We sat on the front porch sipping wine and watching the heat lightening and fireflies after our long drive in. And the gardens … literally everything I remember from my childhood … from magnolias and morning glories to Rose of Sharon and redbud. Not to mention the location .., right in the middle of so many wineries! Such a good trip!

Great stay

This was a great house to stay in. It is close to wineries, breakfast diners, and wintergreen. My favorite thing was the fenced in yard so our dogs could run around!

Great country farmhouse with character

Perfect size for our family of 3 and the location was ideal as we were visiting family who live on both sides of Afton Mountain. We had a really nice stay and the location meets our needs so we will definitely book again when we come down to Virginia.

The cottage was clean, well-equipped and peaceful. We enjoyed the dark skies at night, even seeing the Milky Way. The Skyline Drive and Blue Ridge Parkway were nearby and easy to get to.Shops and restaurants were a little farther but still accessible.

Great short getaway in Afton. So close to hikes and wineries. Loved the property for us and our dogs. Fenced in yard was a HUGE bonus. Would stay again!

Wonderful Pet Friendly Mountain Escape

My husband and I had a wonderful stay with our Chocolate Lab. The house has everything you need to relax while staying efficient: such as wifi, washer and dryer, and multiple indoor and outdoor cooking options. It’s perfectly situated near the Nelson 151 providing easy access to multiple wineries and breweries. We will definitely return!

Great location

We stayed with our 2 dogs, who really loved the yard. Quaint old house, good for 2 people. Excellent area to stay in, recommend for a nice getaway in the mountains near Charlottesville.

1st time to the area for a wedding nearby which made its location perfect! Plenty of comfortable seating on the porches for relaxing & bird watching. Are stay was short, but we had everything we needed. The coffee/ tea counter was perfect. The veiw from the dining room table, beautiful. The bed was comfy, the place clean & peaceful, making it a breeze to prepare for a family wedding. I would not hesitate to stay at Sweet Afton again, & take some time to explore this beautiful area.

Clean and cozy property

Everything about the rental was above expectations. The kitchen was well stocked and had everything we needed for our weekend stay. Great communication from the host throughout the trip, with detailed check-in and check-out instructions.

Family vacation

We had a wonderful time at this sweet cottage in the Shenandoahs. The yard was huge and the view was gorgeous. The cottage was old but had such character and was well equipped. We really enjoyed our stay so much. Highly recommend!

Cute house, great property. Close to fun hikes. We did the Blue Ridge Tunnel. Very close to multiple vineyards and breweries . Loved the neighbors dog who came to say hi.

Great spot in Afton

The property had an amazing fenced in yard and very lovely home. It was the kind of place that made you feel comfortable upon entering. The property management team was amazing and immediately helped with a plumbing issue. We would definitely stay at this property again.

Great mountain views

A perfect weekend get away for a couple or a small family. The house is beautifully decorated and the kitchen is adequately stocked. The property is well maintained and the gardens are gorgeous. The location is close to a varety of attractions. We will definitely be returning. I am already missing the fresh mountain air.

Love this cottage

This is the second time we have stayed at Sweet Afton. We really enjoy the location and the house itself. We did have an issue with the water "going out" two times on the same day, but Drew came to the house almost immediately to fix it. We plan to stay at this property again.

Beautiful place in the country

A charming, tranquil location with a mountain view, large pet friendly fenced yard, and lovely flower gardens. The house is very comfortable and the kitchen is fully equipped. There are two excellent wineries within a mile and easy access to others nearby. Hiking opportunities are numerous in the area. If you enjoy a good sit in a front porch rocking chair surrounded by nature, this is your spot. We would without hesitation recommend and return to this property.

Nice space with garden

Property was somewhat secluded with a nice garden. Inside was clean and well decorated & supplied. Not much privacy as you can easily hear talking throughout house.

Sweet Afton dreams

Wonderful cottage in the Afton mountains. Convenient to trails, vineyards, and breweries. Yard was completely fenced and even my ever tenacious Jack Russell Terrier could not find an escape - loved watching her run around outside. Highly recommended.
