There are sometimes harbor seals on the beach at low tide, near the mouth of the Alsea Bay, within walking distance from the beach entry at Bayshore. The Alsea Bay is popular for crabbing and fishing and there are boats and crab pots to rent at the local marina. There is a stunning amount of bird life on the beaches, with sightings of pelicans, eagles, marbled murrelets, willets, great blue herons, sandpipers, plovers, cormorants, oystercatchers, terns, gulls, swallows, hummingbirds, cedar waxwings and more.
