Our family loved spending time at this beaucolic property, and found so much to do on - and nearby -Georgetown island. Great intro to Maine for us first-timers from California.
This was both a great base for exploring the Midcoast region and a place for relaxing on rainy days. We would certainly stay here or at one of the affiliated properties in the future - this cottage is not accessible to guests with mobility issues.
We had such a great stay at Sebago. Plenty of room for a family of three and dog to spread. The screen porch was such a respite during rainy days and hot days (we had both and not much in between). Great breezes too. Close to everything and a perfect home base. Also an easy on/off Route 1, which is key. And you definitely get the family-owned vibe of the entire peninsula, which was unique for our other stays in the area. Katie was great to work with. Very responsive. We already have next summer on the books!
We stayed at this lovely cottage and were very pleased with the accommodations! This area is insanely beautiful. The screened porch is world class. We enjoyed the pass for Reid State Park. It was a great place to relax and enjoy the island!
We were able to easily find in the beginning and easy to access the main roads for other events.
Rooms are spacious, clean and all amenities are included. (Even laundry detergent!) The porch is a beautiful dream spot! We had most of our meals out there and my husband and I enjoyed the sunrises and sunsets while our boys were sleeping or enjoying device time. FYI This is a natural area and the mosquitoes are plentiful on the road and path. The house is raised so the deck, screened in porch and the campfire area were mosquitoe free. There is also plenty of hot water; We took 4 quick showers after a beach day and nobody had cold water. The restaurants in Brunswick are incredible! Also, the 5 Island Lobster restaurant is awesome- arrive early, they run out of items. Great place to begin your day in and end in.
The house is in a great location with a beautiful view. It was very clean upon arrival and easy to access.
We arrived in the evening, went to make a quick dinner for the kids and discovered no grill tools. There was also no cooking essentials like a sheet pan (for oven fries), a vegetable peeler, etc. Listing mentions stocked kitchen with pantry items (none, not even oil) so this threw a curve ball. By the time we got around to making the master bed (beds arenât made upon arrival) we discovered the box spring was cracked in half and we couldnât sleep on it. Spent the first night on the floor.
The property manager, Katie, was very kind and responsive. They fixed the bed by the following afternoon and brought over the missing kitchen items we mentioned. I will say, I was surprised after such a rough first night that the owners never reached out to apologize.
We found throughout the week that the kitchen is very lacking in essentials if you are planning to make a meal there vs dining out. They also said they provided paper towels and tp, but there was only one small roll of paper towels so we had to go out and purchase that also. Also no kitchen counter spray, etc.
The fridge had a sign saying you shouldnât drink the water, and to use the jugs in the fridge to get you started. This was inconvenient because we didnât know ahead of time to bring our own drinking water. We found out later the water was now drinkable thanks to a new well and to NOT drink from the jugs.
The porch is beautiful, but the chairs at the table on the porch were plastic stackable chairs that were uncomfortable and also broken and cracked along the back. Having comfortable chairs out there make the space usable- which you need if traveling with 6 because the living room area doesnât seat 6 people.
Checkout was a bit confusing. All sheets and towels need to be washed, which we found out via text. It mentioned sheets on VRBO but not towels.
Also, the house is only accessible by stone steps and then a wooden stair case. No problem for my family, but we sometimes travel with my parents and this would have been an issue for them, so mentioning it for others. You also have to walk/drive garbage bags down the road to a dump.
This could be a great place to stay if the kitchen was stocked like the listing mentioned and they updated the furnishings so they werenât broken. Also an updated welcome packet including checkout instructions would help a lot!
This property has a huge screened in porch that we sat on all the time. It has a view of the marsh. We saw deer, a bald eagle and lots of boats going by. The inside of the house was nice also. The bedrooms were all good sized. Two bathrooms were a plus too. Kitchen, dining room and living room were also nice. We fit five people very comfortablely in there. If you want a porch with a view, this is the place for you. Bring your binoculars.
Great location for exploring small cities. Excellent property with great relaxing views, plenty of space. Washer/Dryer, 2 bathrooms were great additions. Recommended!
We absolutely loved the cottage we stayed in at Back River Bend. It had everything that we needed and everything was clean and orderly. The view from the screened in porch was spectacular. I will cherish the memories of sitting quietly out there each morning of our stay and reading, meditating, and just drinking my coffee. While the quiet time and down time was excellent, we also enjoyed walking the trail, taking the canoes and kayaks out on the river, and taking a private wooden boat ride with Captain Jonathan all the way to the Atlantic. We were sad to leave but will always have the memories to keep in our hearts and also we will be thinking about returning again before too long.
This was our 1st time staying in the Georgetown/Bath area and it was a real pleasure. We enjoyed exploring new sites and partook in the excellent variety of food experiences!
When we weren't sightseeing or eating, we loved the peacefulness of sitting on the porch enjoying nature and the company of family!
The cottage was exactly as described and was a quiet and peaceful base for our family vacation. It comfortably slept 6 people and provided plenty of space for everyone to hang out. The screened porch is perfect for relaxing mornings and after busy days at the beach, hiking and exploring. Our stay was during a 90 degree heat wave and the upstairs bedrooms were extremely hot even with the fans that were provided. We knew there was no ac and took a chance anyway. Once, the temperature broke it was an ideal spot.
The house was very clean and the check-in /out process was very easy.
The location was very convenient and the house was perfect. Very quiet and peaceful.
We had a good one week stay here with our family, friends, and our dog. Everything worked well and as advertised. Our group size varied during the week. As many as 6 stayed comfortably, but it was also good for just 2 of us. We used the cottage as a base for our visit and that worked well. Drive times: 15 minutes to Reid State Park; 10 minutes to Bath; 20 minutes to Brunswick; allow an hour for Portland. Screened in porch was a big plus. Internet was reliable with speed typical for non-business service. If you are looking for a main coast vacation "base station" this is a good option. Owners were very friendly and helpful. No issues there. We recommend this property.
Weâve been vacationing in Maine since 2013 and the properties at BackRiver Bend boatyard have never failed to deliver. All of your basics are covered and you have the peace of mind of having owners/family nearby that are eager to help if/when needed. Close to all of the places we love and just enough off the beaten path to get away from it all.
We enjoyed our time together during our stay at Sebago- all three generations of one family! The master bedroom is large with high ceilings and upstairs rooms are just right, too. The owners are extremely helpful and accommodating- lending us a can opener, quickly getting us extra keys when we temporarily misplaced ours.. and lots of advice on where to go to swim, kayak, etc. our toddler could visit the boatyard and the baby sat with us on the screened porch all afternoon. Thank you!
We recently rented for a week after our wedding. Very cute, clean house. We would rent again. Loved that we could bring our dog.
Loved having a washer and dryer.
Ruth and Sam were great.
Would maybe recommend having more fans in house it did get hot a few days.
Wonderful view, especially from the screened in deck safe from the mosquitos. Ideal location close to Bath, yet seems like you're a hundred miles away. Very nice, and the state park pass was a great bonus!
Lovely setting, comfortable house, quiet area, super friendly owners
Four adults and two children stayed here during 4th of July week.
The owners, particularly Ruth, were more than accommodating: emails ahead of the stay were often answered the same day or by the next day, at the latest. The washing machine broke down during the week were there and once Ruth was informed she called a repairman to examine it, he determined a new one was needed and the next day a brand new washing machine was installed. Those of you who do not use the dishwasher during the week: it can fill up with water within a few days. Just press the "drain" button on the machine and the water will get drained out.
The house does look older than what the photos show on the website. But there is plenty of room, the screened-in porch is often very comfortably breezy and the views toward the water are nice though perhaps a few trees could be thinned out for a better view.
The downstairs queen bed is very comfortable, the couple in the upstairs queen bedroom found the mattress a bit hard, the kids liked the twin beds very much. The water is well water, not really drinkable and water pressure is not too strong in the downstairs shower. But the owners kindly provide two jugs of bottled water in the refrigerator to start your visit. We cooked most of our dinners in the house and found most everything we needed for our meals.
There's a trail that goes behind the house and goes perhaps a 1/3 of a mile back toward the roadway with some nice overlooks. We rented a canoe for the week and found that it would be best to take the canoe out as high tide is nearing and go up the Back River for an hour or so and then return as the tide begins to go out. Very nice and serene settings as you canoe or kayak up the river, well worth at least one canoe or kayak ride.
There's a pass to Reid State Park: a beautiful state beach, well worth a visit. Ruth will also tell you where there is a local watering hole 5 minutes away with a rope swing: the water was extremely clean and relatively warm for early July. Five Islands is about 15 minutes away where you can get a great lobster meal. Bath has most amenities if you need a grocery store and there is a Wal-Mart in Brunswick.
If you're there during 4th of July week ask Ruth where you can watch the fireworks in Bath. She'll let you know where there is a prime spot to watch them.
If you like quiet and some time away from the bustling world, you can't find a better place than this. Highly recommended!
We had a great two week stay here. We loved the views of Back River Bend from the screened in porch and the cottage's convenient location close to Popham Beach and Reid State Park. It was also close to other attractions in the Portland, Monhegan Island and Camden areas for day trips. We highly recommend it.
We truly enjoyed our stay at the Sebago Cottage. It was very clean and well appointed with everything that we needed. We met Ruth, the owner on the day we arrived and she was very helpful with suggestions on places to go, restaurants etc. The location of the cottage is centrally located to all of the things that we love to do when we are in Maine and the view from the screen porch overlooking the river is beautiful. We visited many of the sites in the area including Boothbay Harbor and Reid State Park which are 2 of our favorites. There are so many wonderful seafood places that it is hard to decide which one is best! We loved Red's Eats for Lobster Rolls and Five Islands which was nearby, was our favorite all around place for all seafood. The view from Five Islands was spectacular! Overall it was a wonderful time in Maine for all of us.

We, Sam and Ruth Francis, are the owners and hosts of eight rental properties in Georgetown, Maine. We have four wonderful grown sons and are proud grandparents. We worked for years to finish our timber frame dream home at the tip of the peninsula. We have past the property management part of the cottages to our son, Chris and his wife, Katie.
We purchased this unique fifty acre property with its half mile long peninsula over thirty years ago. Since then we have lived here and operated a traditional wooden boat shop. Over the years we have built six charming cottages, as well as, converted a Sailor's Loft to a rental with breathtaking, panoramic views. We also, offer the home that we first built and lived in to renters, with it's ideal location at the tip of the peninsula with deep water frontage and a private dock. We have added other touches to our property with a garden house, ten slip boat dock, a hiking trail and clearings for fishing and picnics.
The cottages are situated to allow privacy but also to maintain the quality of the open, natural spaces. Each cottage overlooks the marsh and adjacent Back River which flows off the mighty Kennebec River and nature conservancy land beyond.
