This is our new favorite lake rental: so well cared for and equipped! You need to bring very little except your personal items and food--and even that--there's a long list of local food options in Rebekah's detailed guest booklet. We haven't been more comfortable anywhere else. It's spacious and cozy at the same time. Beds and bedrooms are comfortable: room darkening window covering options and fans in each--and sound machines! AC works well too.The views from the kitchen, family room, screened porch, deck atop the boathouse are phenomenal. We love the slightly quieter location on the lake, even amidst neighbors. The dock is in great shape and is a favorite for fishing if you can't take a boat out (see pic). Rebekah is an excellent host-- very responsive.
The property was lovely and welcoming. We absolutely loved the view from the cabin's screened in porch. Beds were comfortable. We rented a pontoon boat from the marina located on Balsam Lake for both days and had great time. Enjoyed the on-site stand up paddle boards. Host was delightful to work with.
Cabin worked out great for 5 adults and 2 children. We brought a fishing boat which was easy to to get docked at the cabin. Fishing was also good right off the dock. The screen room was great for relaxing in the evening. We had a very nice time.
The cabin is right on the lake with bald eagles flying by several times a day. The only issue we had was with the bed in room 4, it was very uncomfortable.
Awesome lakefront and well kept and stocked home. Great and ample water toys. We especially loved the large screened in porch. We were disappointed that the listing was misleading in one aspect. It neither confirmed or denied that there was WiFi, which would have been useful to know as the house has spotty cell tower connectivity. After we booked it said to contact the host for WiFi information, which made it seem like they would present us with login info, or something similar. However the property does not have wifi at all. We would choose this place again but the owners should clarify WiFi status.
Our class of '81 friends got together for an annual reunion. We loved the space! The screen porch that overlooked the lake was used for coffee mornings and catching up evenings. We enjoyed the fire pit and watched the moon come up, hoping to glimpse some of the possible northern light show.
This cottage is very well stocked for cooking, might need to bring some more foil and food storage containers, but there are plenty of kitchen towels, wash clothes and bath towels. There is a nice big, square dining table for meals and game playing. The beds were comfortable and three of the rooms had king beds, which was great for our crew. There was so many water toys!
The dock was used a lot too. We recommend renting a pontoon from Sunnyside Marina that was about a 10-15 minute cruise to the cottage. The lake is huge and fun to explore. Be sure to get a map of the lake with an explanation of the underwater hazard areas, but also the restaurants and bars.
We ate out one night at the Thirsty Otter, pretty good. If you want a supper club, make ressys at least three weeks in advance. Went to Balsam Lake Lodge just for drinks (have food too), it was a very nice bar.
Rebekah the host is so very nice to work with to get details, recommendations and responded to any questions we had right away. She did a great job of making her multi-generation owned cottage charming and welcoming. She knows so much of the area and has lots of recommendations in her welcome book. Will definitely book again!
This visit was our second, and was just as wonderful as the first. It's our new home-away-from-home--the most comfortable of all the lake houses we've rented. It's styled and furnished well, including lighting, throw blankets, rugs & pillows, details which are often missed. It's stocked with everything you might need, including sound machines & room darkening curtains because good sleep is important! Our favorite room is the screened in porch, but there's also a rockin rooftop patio on top of the boathouse --all connected and visible from the kitchen. Dock is great for fishing, stargazing, and docking your boat. The view is incredible; the lot and driveway/parking is great. I love this end of Balsam Lake; it's quieter and the neighbors are quiet as well so there's privacy. Rebekah is super responsive and a wonderful host. We're looking forward to next year, already.
Rebekah was fantastic to work with. She made the check in and check out process seamless. Balsam lake is fabulous and we loved the screen porch and deck to fully enjoy the lake. The linens are wonderful and she is incredibly generous with many things that we usually need to bring to VRBOs, paper towels, tp, soap etc. We really appreciated everything and plan to revisit!
3 generations stayed for three days. Adorable house. Itâs smaller and shows itâs been loved. But as like other reviews, we spent most of our time on the spectacular, spacious deck and screened in porch. We brought our boat and explored beautiful 2,000 acre Balsam Lake. The grandkids tubed and fished. It was too weedy to swim off the dock, but the paddle boards and paddle boat got them out far enough to swim. They loved the place.Excellent communication from owner. We appreciated the small things they provided; paper plates, seasonings, etc.
Our stay was wonderful. We were there during the week so there was little activity on the lake. We enjoyed fishing both from the dock and with our boat. It was also great to have our pup Jaxx with us. Thank you for allowing us to use your property.
Great family week at Balsam! Home was perfectly clean, very well stocked and has an amazing screened porch and deck with plenty of room for all. Host was extremely responsive to any questions. Easy to get to town or restaurants on the lake. Highly recommend!
Great place, all you need. Beautiful lake. Well equipped home, comfy and great accommodations! Host was great to work with. Only critique is no WiFi and very limited channels on tv. But thatâs minor and did not detract from the lovely time. Thank you!
This property worked perfectly for our family! The screened in porch and deck was ideal! The kids caught so many fish right off the dock and the view is amazing! We brought our boat and the lake was so much fun! We went to the Thirsty Otter for dinner on the boat and the kids thought that was great!
The closeness to Balsam Lake and the outdoor patio/screen porch are what make this place special. We greatly enjoyed the swinging hammock chair, fire pit, and screened porch areas with ample seating for all the family to enjoy. Having just a DVD player was nice as it encouraged everyone to play games at night.
This place is very clean and the kitchen is well stocked. We spent most of our time on the small tennis court on the property that is the perfect size for pickle ball. We brought removable lines and a net for our stay. There are large cracks in the court which might deter serious players, but added an element of humor and fun for us. There were seven of us, and that there wasn't enough couch/chair seating for all of us to gather in the family room area which was unfortunate. The cabin is older but has been updated and is comfortable. I also didn't realize that the King bed in one of the rooms was actually a day bed and trundle put together which was not ideal for my husband and I who had already set up in that room (better for kids, maybe). The views are beautiful, however, and there is plenty of seating outdoors. We also enjoyed using the two paddle boards. One of us had to work one of the days and was able to connect to a hotspot and use a computer due to no wifi. It was nice to disconnect from tech for a few days as well. Overall, the cabin worked very well for us and we had a great time!
We were in a great spot on Balsam Lake - much less traffic and quiet. The house was everything we need to 2 family's of 4. The house is obviously used by family and friends because it is STOCKED with EVERYTHING you need. We were shocked how much was there for us to use. The wifi was no bit deal - our kids were having to much fun to be plugged in and it forced us adults to talk and read and relax. We would come back in a heartbeat and plan to next summer!
