Retreat Cabin in Southern Illinois on Lakefront with an Outdoor Hot Tub

Escape to our beautiful lakefront cabin on Hohman Lake, and experience a truly relaxing vacation. Our unplugged getaway is the perfect destination for families, small groups of friends, or couples looking to disconnect and unwind.

The cozy cabin features 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom, offering 1000 square feet of comfortable living space. Enjoy stunning views of the lake from the screened porch and deck, and relax in the large private spa. Renters are welcome to fish on the lake, swim off the dock, and bring their own kayaks or canoes to use on the water.

The master bedroom overlooks the screened porch and offers a queen-size bed with a breathtaking view of the lake. The second bedroom also features a queen-size bed, ensuring a comfortable stay for all guests. Additionally, we provide a queen-size inflatable mattress, allowing the cabin to sleep up to 6 guests.

The cabin is equipped with central heat and air, TV with Blu-Ray/DVD player, washer and dryer, dishwasher, microwave, oven, refrigerator, coffee maker, kitchen utensils, cookware, dishes, towels, linens, hairdryer, and iron. We also provide complimentary coffee supplies to get your mornings started off right. Please note that there is no cable or satellite service, internet connection, or landline phone service at the cabin. However, cell phone service for texting is good, and voice service is fair. If you need to stay connected, both Metropolis and Paducah public libraries have computer rooms available for use.

There are plenty of opportunities for hiking, fishing, and wildlife watching in the vicinity. The cabin is located near the Shawnee National Forest and just a 40-minute drive away from the stunning Garden of Gods.

Urgent Care and Emergency Room services are available in both Metropolis and Paducah.

Great Stay

My husband and I stayed at the cabin for our anniversary. The accomodations were wonderful-check-in was so easy and the house was nice and cool when we arrived-which was a relief in the 90 degree August heat! We enjoyed quiet mornings reading on the front porch and time spent fishing and swimming. Jerome and Rachel have a well stocked cabin and responded quickly to the couple of questions we had during our stay.

Outstanding lake view

Great proximity to Metropolis and Paducah but the benefits of a relaxing lake view. The screened in patio was SO comfortable. Well stocked home with hcomfortable furnishings. Everything you need for coffee too which I really appreciate.

Beautiful cabin on the Lake

We had a great time relaxing inside, in the hot tub and walking around the lake. It's a wonderful place to stay. Nearby we enjoyed food in Paducah, the great trails for MTBing and hiking in the Land Between the Lakes, and just had to waste time seeing the World's Tallest Superman. Good times for sure.

Perfect Place for Peace and Quiet

This is the second time my husband and I have stayed here because we enjoy it so much. It is a great place to go to reconnect with your loved ones and nature. Very clean, cozy, and peaceful with beautiful views. Hosts are friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back again!

Peaceful getaway

Enjoyed our stay at this beautiful lakefront house. It was clean and well stocked with dishes, cookware and small appliances. Caught some fish and had a visit from the neighbors dog. Definitely would book the cabin again.

Great, out of the way, get away

We could not have been happier with our stay. The cabin was fantastic. The lake was relaxing. We all enjoyed hanging out, kayaking, swimming, fishing, grilling, playing cards, etc! Our only issue was we all agreed 2 full days was not enough.

Wonderful stay

The only reason I did not get five stars, for the accuracy of listing is because I did not feel the water was swimmable, and that was the whole reason we booked there. There was just a lot of moss or lily pads and way too many turtles for my likings. We had trouble with hornets, but other than the normal unpreventable outdoor things, the home itself was beautifully placed by the lake, very clean, and the host were very responsive!

Disconnecting to Reconnect

Relaxing weekend away from the chaos of every day life. We enjoyed the lake views from the screened in porch and from the hot tub. The home is very comfortable and well equipped. The only thing I wished we had done was bring firewood to enjoy a fire in the pit down by the lake.

Excellent!

Hubby and I and our furbaby had an awesome time! The views from the dock were spectacular and very relaxing. It was nice to get away and unplug and not worry about work related things. Fishing was great and just being on the deck listening to the sounds of nature was so soothing. Everything was as advertised in the listing and then some. Very impressed with the entire experience. We will definitely be back!

Amazing stay!

Loved this little cabin on the lake from the moment we drove up. Pics do not do justice. Quiet, picturesque, clean, cozy, I could go on! My kids loved the variety of wildlife from the little fish, frogs and turtles and tadpoles to the geese and heron all right out the back porch. Sunsets and sunrises were beautiful over the lake. Forgot our fishing poles but would bet there is some great fishing to be had. Nice touches were the array of games, the washer and dryer, and sound machines in both bedrooms. And of course, the hot tub! Probably the best maintained/cleanest hot tub I’ve ever been in with a very relaxing setting!!! My son is already asking when we are going back! So many things to do close by. All the following within 40 min driving - Fern Cliffe State park is a must, breathtaking trails. Eat breakfast at Longhorn cafe before your day and you won’t be disappointed! Enjoyed Garden of the Gods and Burden Falls as well, stopped for great ice cream at Garden of the Gods outpost. River Discovery Center in Paducah is very educational and interactive for kids of all ages. A lot of history! Everyone we encountered was very friendly. All in all such a great trip and we loved having this little piece of heaven for two nights of great family memories!!!

Pros and cons

Pros-immense peace, lake like bath water, easy access into water for swimming and kayaking, lots of fish and turtles. Even had a loon visit in the yard. Cons-had to unplug the five room fresheners as headache set in on day one (perhaps a diffuser with lavender oil instead?), no internet is fine, unless you have a car emergency and need ratings. Phone book available but without knowing where to go, shop we wound up at hand tightened brakes and tire so almost died when parts started falling off 40 minutes out of town. Could not find a fire extinguisher in the house or tools for the fire pit. Maybe we overlooked them? No directions to nearest hospital, drug store, or even ideas where to get fire wood, etc. Also, only way we knew hurricane rains were headed our way was because the Weather Channel was on in the car shop. I’m sure it depends on your carrier, but I couldn’t even text the person standing next to me at the house, let alone contact my child who was at home. Just an uneasy feeling. Jack the dog is adorable, except there’s a reason I don’t bring an alarm clock on vacation. 7:30 wake up bark at the door almost daily. He actually pushed the outside handle up to try to get in and would lay against the door during the day, and he’s a big guy. Bring your own camping chairs if you want something soft to sit on outside. Overall, ok trip. Definitely need to print out things in advance if going. Directions, weather, locations, etc. Brought our own floaties and inflatable kayaks. We saw some under the deck but weren’t sure if they were for guests. Stayed at VRBO locations for years (check out the wolf rescue in Bozeman!) Even those with internet had printed out weather, safety lists like nearest hospital, fun suggestions or unique things to do, etc. The challenges brought such uneasiness, that we almost left on day four. Strangers in a new place need to know certain things to make the stay more enjoyable. Just go prepared and you’ll be fine.

The serene lake, stunning scenery, and opportunity to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of daily life are just a few of the reasons why we keep returning to this place. One of our favorite things to do is to sit out on the dock and watch the breathtaking sunset (or sunrise if you're an early riser).

Quels sont les atouts de cet hébergement ?

Our family's main reason for repeatedly returning to the cabin was the absence of cable TV and internet. This allowed us to avoid the distractions of technology and focus on reconnecting with one another. While some may view this as an inconvenience, we saw it as a valuable opportunity that our family truly needed. It's a chance we wanted to extend to others who seek a place to disconnect from technology and instead prioritize reconnecting with loved ones.
