Nestled on the scenic shores of Central Oak Island, "Windrift" offers a unique East Coast beach retreat ideal for a large family or group of close friends. With an open floor plan, everyone can join in the conversation or retreat to one of the 4 private bedrooms. This cottage has a recently updated interior, plenty of nautically themed decor, and lots of comfortable furnishings to make you feel right at home!

Start your morning on a healthy note with a brisk walk or jog along the ocean! After your morning walk, relax beneath the vaulted wood beam ceiling in the living room and enjoy a morning cup of coffee watching the sunrise while your loved ones roll out of bed.

The well-equipped kitchen boasts all of the cooking essentials along with a dishwasher and disposal to make clean up a breeze! Enjoy your culinary creations inside at the breakfast bar or the kitchen table, or bring them outside to the picnic table on the beach deck to listen to the tide while you dine.

There's no better place for an afternoon glass of sweet tea or wine than the back deck at "Windrift". Oak Island is particularly unique because it faces south and allows you and your travel companions to watch BOTH sunsets and sunrises! Run down to the beach for a refreshing swim and then rinse off with the private-enclosed outdoor shower before coming in for the evening.

Before you call it a night, relax on the cozy living room sofa and end the day by watching your favorite movie on the flat-screen TV in the living room. Make yourself comfortable on one of the 3 queen beds or the bedroom with 2 twin beds and rest up for another day in paradise!

Oak Island is known for its laid-back reputation, local attractions, pier, and is perfect for families or people looking for a relaxed vacation. There are plenty of delicious local restaurants around the island, and some local hots spots include Island Way, Swain Seafood Shack, Shagger Jacks, and Turtle Island Restaurant. It's never a boring time when you walk down to the scenic Ocean Crest Pier!

The Town of Southport is only a 13-mile drive from your door and a quintessential coastal fishing village you need to experience. Spend your time browsing through the local art galleries, antique shopping or take a shot at crabbing along the Inter Coastal Water Way. Dine along the water down at Yacht Basin, rock in one of the many chairs or swings watching the big ships pass by.

Southport also offers ferries to Fort Fisher and Bald Head Island if you want to adventure off the mainland! Bald Head Island has a lighthouse and some gorgeous views of the coast while Fort Fisher is home to the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.

Some other options for fun include golfing at one of the local courses (Oak Island Golf Club and Lockwood Folly Country Club are great), driving south to Myrtle Beach for a day of outlet shopping, visiting Broadway at the Beach, or take a ride on the SkyWheel.

Fishermen absolutely love spending the morning casting their lines off the Ocean Crest Pier to try and reel in lunch. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for dolphins and other fish playing in the ocean while you fish!

Perfect for kids!

We enjoyed our stay at Windrift very much. You just can't get any closer to the beautiful beach! Sunrise and sunset from the deck. The kitchen was very well stocked- we had everything we needed. The house is a perfect layout, and provided lots of room for our young family of 5 to spread out. The beds and furniture were all comfortable and we slept great. The gate on the deck was a bonus to keep the kids from wandering too far! We will definitely be back!

Can’t wait to return!

This house is perfect. The location is close to everything you need and far enough from what we all want to escape on a vacation. The rooms were comfortable and welcoming. The kitchen is nicely stocked for any cooking you may want to do, plus a clean grill for those BBQ-ers 😉 Our kids and us loved the easy access to the beach in case we forgot something, needed more beverages and snacks, or just want to get out of the sun to sit on the covered porch and rock. The nearby ‘Pantry’ had anything you may have forgot or ran out of, while the nearby restaurants served up some yummy foods. We loved our steam pot from the Outer Banks Boil Co. This was a wonderful visit and we cannot wait to return! Hopefully we’ll make Oak Island home soon!

Wonderful little cottage right on the beach!

This cottage was so perfect for our family vacation. Our 4 legged children loved hanging out on the the fenced in deck. The house is pet friendly, both of our dogs are 6 months and younger. It was so clean, they couldn't find a thing to put in their mouths. We had easy access to the beach for morning and evening walks, perfect location. The cottage was cozy, comfortable and relaxing. We slept so well on the bed there. The kitchen is well stocked. We enjoyed the cottage so much that we only ventured out one night for dinner, we chose to eat in the rest of the time. Unfortunately the weather wasn't great but we never got cabin fever. We will definitely be back next year!

I love the sound of the ocean, especially at night and being right on the water is my idea of a great time. The house was small but met all our needs and was dog friendly. I loved how the four bedrooms were two on each side with full baths between them. This gave everyone sound buffers from all the snoring, one of our biggest complaints when traveling in a fairly large group. We ordered and got some of the best weather and un-crowded beach conditions that anyone could want. Because we had lived close to this area several years ago and still have family nearby we knew where to go to find some of the best fish available. We ate most meals in and had the convenience of all items needed to prepare all our meals.

Perfect Beach Rental - Comfortable, Clean, and Beach Access is the BEST! Dont Hesitate to Book!

I would recommend this ocean front cottage to anyone looking! Dont hesitate to book this home. I stayed for a week with my elderly mother, my 3 year old son, and my hard to please husband and everyone loved the rental. It worked wonderful for each of us. The house is laid out perfect with (2 ) bedrooms on each side of the house with open living area to kitchen allowing good flow and lots of sunshine and views out the front and back of the house. The covered porch area is stocked well with a picnic table and rocking chairs for plenty of seating for everyone to enjoy the views and beach. The best part of this rental is the proximity to the beach which starts pretty much at the base of the steps. There wasn't a high dune separating the house from the beach so my elderly mother was able to sit on the covered porch and see the rest of the family playing on the beach which was important to me. If you have children or plan to use the beach a lot this home is perfect because of where it is situated. Outdoor shower and gate off the covered porch were a plus. Gorgeous sunsets everynight. Comfortable and cute decorated house. Cant say enough about it. No complaints at all. The owners were very helpful and responsive when booking and great to work with. Even checked in with me while we were staying to ensure we were happy with everyone. I will definitely book this home again when I get a chance.

Wonderful week

The listing description for Windrift is thorough & accurate and the photos are an accurate representation. We had 8 in our group ... mom & dad, two grandmas, two college age guys and two high school gals. We were all very comfortable at Windrift. Last year we stayed at Atlantic Beach in a new 3-story (with elevator) house, stylish décor, etc. (the only way we could afford such a place was they were offering huge discount for renting in May) ... BUT we all liked Windrift a lot better! With it being all one floor everyone was in closer proximity to each other which made it much nicer ... afterall, you're there to spend time together right?! The grandmoms loved the porch & rocking chairs & having their coffee out there in the mornings .. and they spent a good amount of time there watching the sights throughout the day -- birds, boats, dolphins, etc. We loved how much closer to the beach & water we were at Windrift ... my 86-yr-old mom was even able to make the short walk to the water to get her feet wet ~ yay! Hubby & adult son thoroughly enjoyed surf fishing in front of the house ... and trying out the sea kayaks we brought. The youngin's tried surfboarding but not much success. Tropical Storm Andrea blew through near the end of the week ... that was interesting!!! only special beach goers get to experience such storms! hahaha! ... but thankfully, 24 hrs later we were back on the beach in the sun :-) We ate all meals in except two and the well-stocked kitchen had everything we needed. The one dinner (Saturday night) we ate out was at Oak Island Restaurant ... chosen because it was close & claimed to have the best seafood. It's an older style establishment, not much on décor & froo-froo extras, but service was excellent & the food was very good with huge portions. We also visited Southport ... a charming town, full of Americana ... it was fun seeing different filming locations of the movie "Safe Haven" ... and we had lunch while there at Fishy Fishy on their outside deck ... lovely view, good food but kind of pricey though. I would easily recommend Windrift to others. It's easy to get to and find on the island ... it has excellent beach access ... the house is clean & has everything you need. The owners are very gracious & easy to work with.

We would stay here again!!

First the best parts of our stay.....LOVED the rocking chairs and table on the porch. LOVED being so close to beach access. LOVED the size of the house....we had 6 adults and it was the perfect size. We loved our stay and there isn't much that we would change overall....a few minor inconveniences came up that were out of anyone's control. The driveway is sand. Unfortunately, one side of the drive was drifted to the point that I couldn't pull in nor back into the driveway (AWD SUV). This wasn't a huge ordeal for us as we only had 2 vehicles and the other side of the drive was fine. The only other comment would be that the shared bathrooms between bedrooms could be an issue for some people. We just made sure we locked the opposite door to assure privacy.

A Wonderful Week

We consider Windrift our second home. We have stayed there consistently over several years now and it is always our first choice. There have been renovations which make it even more comfortable. The beach is just over the dunes and always in view. We had a very relaxing week and look forward to next year.

A little gem

Windrift was exactly as pictured! We enjoyed a beautiful week just steps from the beach, which was especially appreciated with two small children. It was adorably decorated and freshly updated. The kitchen was well-equipped, renovations were well-done, all appliances updated, the family room cozy and exactly what you would expect at the beach! We loved the open, airy feel with exposed rafters and incredible views!! Great personal touches with coffee pods, creamers, paper towels and toilet paper, kitchen soap, bathroom hand soaps. It was also exceptionally clean!! The only feedback would be the path to the beach was across steep dunes (obviously done to protect the cottages and maintained by the city) but proved to be a little difficult to navigate for my 75 year old mother (she is in excellent shape but does have a little trouble with her hip) so as a heads up, may be a challenge for anyone who has any difficulty ambulating. The smell of febreeze or lysol was also very overpowering when we first got there (it seemed to be by the sofas so I imagine they were heavily sprayed between occupants). This may have been due to covid cleaning protocols which I certainly understand, but it required me to need my inhaler for the first two days we were there, despite placing a portable hepa air filtration system that we travel with for my daughter's severe allergies, in the room. And I do wish I had remembered my own pillow! Thank you for sharing your wonderful cottage with us!

Great week for the family to connect and right on the beach. Had I known that they had some beach toys, I would not have brother with ours. Be prepared for wind and the tide really moves the entry to the water a good distance. Very nice to go to splash pad, put - put golf, ice cream stores, fresh donuts, nice new kitchen to work in and 4 bedrooms. We are grateful for a nice week of fun in the sun. Took us a while to figure out the lights (pull chains and light switch combination must be sync'ed). Overall a 5. I wonder when I will get back my damage deposit.

A beautiful welcome to Oak Island

We have been frequent visitors to Southport Them, one sunny day, we drove Oak Island Beach, and knew this was where we'd bring our family and grandkids Summer 2021 was it ! Our week at Wind Drift proved to be pretty wonderful The location was perfect and the decor and style of the house was very attractive The grands learned to love boogey boarding Money well spent ! Perfect Location

If you're looking for a quaint beach cottage that is right on the beach... you don't want to pass this one up! Everything was clean, owners were super easy to work with and any questions we had were answered promptly. The house and views were so perfect that we got engaged IN the house instead of on the beach. We will definitely be returning and we appreciate the owners sharing their little slice of heaven.

Fun had by all

Had a wonderful stay. Host and owner a phone call away if needed, but everything we needed to eat drink and be merry was provided. Our dog came with us and the beach was dog friendly. She had a great time too. Oak island cottages are a great place to get away from the crowds, and enjoy the family. Would recommend to anyone and I have.

Great beach week with the family.

House could use some deep cleaning. Loved the close access to the beach. Beach deck was perfect for everyone, including the dogs! Would rent this house again.

We are high school sweethearts that first met over twenty years ago. We have three boys and live a very active lifestyle. We have always loved getting away as a family to the beach. We are from Pennsylvania right near the great town of Hershey.

Pourquoi avoir choisi cet hébergement ?

We found this home and immediately fell in love with it, the town and the people of Oak Island! The way Oak Island is uniquely positioned...this is one of the few beach places on the East Coast where you get to enjoy the sunrise and sunset on the beach. We would love to share our home away from home with you.

Quels sont les atouts de cet hébergement ?

What could be more appealing than a lovely, vintage beach cottage right on the ocean? One of the unique features of this house is the captivating, exposed beam knotty pine cathedral ceiling. This house is also located on the desirable west end of Oak Island.
