A beautiful and nostalgic home on the riverwalk and within walking distance of all the activities of San Antonio but far enough removed for some peace and quiet
My family has lived in King William just across the street since 1863. My children are the 6th generation of my family to live here ! I live across the street in the house my great-grandparents built in 1896. Although King William is now almost completely and beautifully restored, it went through many decades of decline in the past. I bought the Oge House to improve it because of my interest in bringing the neighborhood back to its original glory.
The Oge House was built by the family that developed King William as San Antonio's first subdivision. It was then located outside of town! San Antonio was just a very small town then. Thus the Oge House was the first house built in King William, and is the oldest mansion in San Antonio, having been built in 1857. The house as it appears now was the result of an expansion in 1881 designed by Alfred Giles, the most famous and gifted architect of the time.
The Oge House is rare in that it has such large grounds - 1.5 acres stretching out along the San Antonio River, which is now improved with the Riverwalk ! The enormous verandas in front and back of the house provide wonderful outdoor areas to sit, relax and enjoy your companions.
