One of three historic cottages once home to the namesake lighthouse keeper. Captain Charlie's 1, offers a wealth of period charm. The wood-clad walls are painted white, as is the tongue-and-groove ceiling. An open deck adds to the living space. Enjoy a relaxing getaway at this traditional, historic cottage offering panoramic views of the ocean. Sleeps 6 (max.). 3 bedrooms (1K-1Q-2T). 1 full bath. (1) 4 passenger cart. Direct beach access. Friday/Friday. 5:30 p.m. arrival/11:30 a.m. departure.

Perfect Location!

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Captain Charlie’s 1 is a charming cottage located right at the ocean with breathtaking views. It’s very old, but has been renovated and updated over the years. The front porch and lower deck are perfect for relaxing and enjoying the amazing views.

Kelly, the Educational Director, was most enthusiastic and knowledgeable. We stayed in Captain Charley 1. There was a deficiency of teaspoons, but otherwise well equipped.The rental agency was responsive when we made requests. The island is truly amazing.

Great view and location, ok house

Rating Details: The property manager was somewhat unhelpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was very happy with the location. I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We had a nice stay despite not having access to the beach for the first 2 days of our stay. Due to the beach nourishment, they would not allow us to access the beach in front of the house. I was disappointed in the rental company for not alerting us or compensating us for paying for a beach access home. The house is of course very old, but cute. Furniture is nice. The kitchen is not well equipped. They need more coffee cups, sheet pan. We appreciate the stay but is overpriced compared to other bald head island options.

Would not recommend

Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was very happy with the location. I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The house is in need of updating, various things need to be fixed (ie there was no stopper for the bath, so our children could not take a bath in the shower/bath), leaks coming through the ceiling (we had to have pots and pans out to catch them so that the floor was not wet and to prevent slips and falls. Also, water flooding in through the front door when it rained, which led to our son having a bad fall. Also we suspect that there is mold in the air vents which led to my son getting sick while we were there. Overall, the house is sadly not in good shape. The rug in the living room needs to be cleaned or replaced as it is filthy and the rotten floor boards beneath it need to be fixed. The floors need to be mopped between rentals and the windows need to be cleaned as we could hardly see out of them - to see the view that we paid top dollar for! There should be at least a broom in the house so that we can sweep up sand. As it is a historical property and high prices are being charged, it needs to be better taken care of. Customer service was good when we reported that the brakes on our golf cart did not work.

We spent hours watching the sunset from the porch! Would love to see the add of an outdoor shower before our next visit tho...I might want to stay there a month if you did that! We love BHI and Captain Charlie's did NOT dissapoint! XOXO

The island takes you in and transforms your vacation experience. The golf carts slow the pace of life, the scenic views, lush wildlife and pristine beaches engulf the senses. Captain Charlie’s sits at the perfect part of the island and is a portal to a simpler time. We had a magical stay and can’t wait to return!

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We loved our stay at Captain Charlie's 1! The location is ideal, with a beach walkway at the end of the porch. Always a fresh beach breeze coming through the screen storm doors. The management was very responsive and easy to communicate with. The property was clean (with the exception of a few dishes that had fingerprints, so we just ran a new load of dishes). If you're looking for posh and upscale "all new," this is not your place. If you're looking for character, location, history, peacefulness all in a neat, clean cottage, this your place. Nothing else like Captain Charlie's on the island. We look forward to returning!
