Bamboozled by host and VRBO
We showed to property a little after 7pm on day 1 of a 4 day trip and were very let down. The interior of the home we were to stay in smelled so bad that we could barely stand to be inside for more than a few minutes. The smell was something of rotten garbage or maybe a dead rodent in the wall. There were unexplained holes in the walls, beer bottle caps strewn about on back patio, a coffee cup full of cigarette butts on porch, trash throughout side-yard, and the pool was overflowing into yard. I text Nik, the host, through the VRBO app and did not get a response. I called customer service through VRBO and they attempted to contact host as well. No response from host. He is still ignoring VRBO and my messages at the time of this posting. Unable to get a hold of host, and fearing for health/safety with the smell inside home, we booked a hotel room. Nik got back to me after 1am and did not offer assistance or reaccomodation. I was in comms with different VRBO support staff over the next several days (each time having to reexplain the situation) and each time they claimed they were gathering evidence and going through their process. One agent even said I should receive a full refund because the host was not responding. Will likely never use this service again (VRBO) as they have not been helpful in this process. And will likely have to go the legal route to recoup over $1800.00.
