Really enjoyed the house. Location is Fantastic, host was available if needed. The chairs and beach towels were perfect!
Thank you so much we had the best time!
The house was small and cozy, overall very nice. We didnât realize that the house was on a fairly busy road, so you can hear cars right outside the windows intermittently, otherwise pretty peaceful and a short walk to a beautiful nearby beach/cliff.
Great place for a weekend with friends. Very clean, easy check-in, good location, close beach/surfing access, comfortable beds, great backyard. Would return!
We had a great stay, with a fantastic location on Opal Cliffs Drive. Easily walkable to many surf spots, cafes and East Cliff Drive. The house was clean and comfortable.
2 bedroom, one bath, good size kitchen and decent living area. Close to downtown Capitola, with Santa Cruz about 20 mins away, And Monterey about 45 mins away. No complaints.
We absolutely loved our time in this home during our road trip through California. We had everything we needed and everything was exactly as listed. Great place! We hope to be back
Our 2nd stay at Jon's cottage was great! We love the location, layout and amenities, and had a super relaxing and pleasant week on the coast. Jon is easy to communicate with and made himself available as needed. Looking forward to another visit!
We liked being close enough to walk to the shops, restaurants and beaches. We had every thing we needed and really enjoyed our evenings playing cards. The beds were comfy and our daughters loved the room with the twin beds and door to the patio. We did need to bring in a 4th chair from outside to seat us all at the table.
The Yaquita House is a very clean, perfectly situated, reasonably priced rental in Santa Cruz. The kitchen has one of the best collections of cookware that I have seen in rentals. All in all, a great vacation rental. Our only wish is an upgrade on the mattresses, they were not high on the comfort scale.
Perfect spot to walk to Pleasure Point and Capitola
Overall enjoyed our stay here very much. The cottage is within walking distance to Pleasure Point and Capitola Beach. Also, was able to walk to Verve coffee, The Penny Ice Creamery, and East End Pub, Two Birds Books, and other stores along 41st Ave. Host provided clear directions to the cottage and how to access. There was plenty of hot water, water pressure was good, beds were comfy (my husband who has a bad back didn't have any issues). Upon arrival I noticed that the towels hanging in the bathroom were very damp. I notified the host and he assured me that they had just been washed and were clean. He offered to come by and give me towels to replace them but I just went ahead and put the towels in the dryer to dry them. There are a few housekeeping issues to point out. Like a lot of rentals and even hotel rooms the coffee maker and tea kettle were/are in need of cleaning and descaling. There was some coffee still in the carafe and the tea kettle had a lot of sediment on the bottom that began to float around after boiling water in it. Also, the front loading washing machine had visible mold on the inside bottom of the door and was wet. I did not need to use the washing machine but just wanting to point that out.
Beautiful, quiet home, close to beach access and good local restaurants. The perfect location for a Surfer's stay. We enjoyed the cute backyard with BBQ! And we were lucky enough to catch an unexpected fireworks show right outside the front door.
Three of us stayed at this property for a girlfriend's weekend and for the Capitola Art and Wine Festival. The location was amazing for us to walk back and forth to Capitola and to go to the beach. The house had plenty of room for the three of us. The owners had all sorts of extras for us to enjoy. We will stay there again.
Great location, property and host. Has everything you need for a fun visit to the area. Tasteful and well-stocked, cozy and clean. Looking forward to another stay!
Alexandra & Jon own and manage the Vaquita House. In addition to maintaining our rental, Alexandra is an author and psychotherapist; Jon is an organizational consultant and musician. We also have long-standing interest in and love of dolphins. The Vaquita is an endangered porpoise found only in the Gulf of California. We donate a portion of the proceeds from the house to the conservation of the ocean and preservation of the dolphins and whales.
We've lived on the east side of Santa Cruz since going to the University years ago. The Opal Cliffs neighborhood offers a vacation vibe in a family friendly neighborhood. Nestled between Capitola Village and Pleasure Point, you can walk to everything you need while at the same time having home base in a quiet, safe neighborhood. Many people run, walk, and bike on Opal Cliff Drive to take in this beautiful street; Privates Beach is 10 doors down from our house. The upgraded promenade along East Cliff Dr is two blocks away. We love it here because everything you need is within a few blocks. You can literally park your car for the week and walk to Pilates, baked goods, surf spots, breakfast, organic markets, bars, beaches, bike shops, boutiques, wine tasting and anything else you can think of. We often think our neighborhood is too good to be true. . . but it is true. Come and see.
Vaquita House is in an upscale residential neighborhood. We personally do the check ins and check outs and keep the property in tip top shape; it is professionally cleaned between each stay. We live nearby and are here for anything you may need. Need a restaurant recommendation for dinner -- romantic or with the kids, you got it! Lovely hiking spot, you got it! Best local cafe, you got it! We love to share the ins and outs of Santa Cruz and Captiola and are happy to answer your questions at any time during your stay.
