Lovely escape!

Absolutely adored the character and charm of this lovely cottage on the lake that had everything we could possibly have needed for a relaxing and restoring break. It took a few crazy windstorms to remove us from the glorious deck/shore view and watching all the wildlife (while munching on delish cheese curds from the creamery up the road). I will definitely be back!

Quiet stay on Lake Champlain shore

Ahhhhh...

This cottage is the perfect if you want peace and quiet. It was perfect for the two of us. We enjoyed the area and did a variety of outings. I love the artistic flair of the owner. Laurel was great in terms of dealing with any questions I had. We will totally return to this adorable cottage with absolutely beautiful sunset views.

A great place for a quiet week

My wife and I spent a half-work, half-vacation week in the cottage, and it met all of our needs. WiFi was great for web conferences, and AT&T and Verizon cell service strong. The lake view is fantastic. Laurel is a great hostess. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a quiet lakeside camp.

The cottage was amazingly peaceful and restorative. Having arrived after dark, to wake up the next morning seemingly touching the lake was breathtaking. As the listing says, cute and eclectic. The 3 of us had a great stay.

This place is SOOO CUTE and the View is to Die For!

This is an adorable cottage. Rustic but adequate. There's a porch overlooking the lake and the sunsets were gorgeous. It's surrounded by beautiful farmland and near the college town of Milford with restaurants and art etc. We did have rain 3 out of the 5 days but even then it was nice especially when the sun blasted through illuminating the greenest grass I've ever seen. There's only (1) Queen bed and (1) twin and the bathroom is small and the shower very small, but we were there for the view and that we got! The host is super friendly and helpful with suggestions etc. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

We loved it!

My partner and I absolutely had a blast. We think our boxer(Abby) had an even better time than us. The cottage has all that you need and then some. The boat and paddles were in great condition. The views are something that I can not describe. We will be back! Thanks Laurel!

A Lakeside Oasis With a View

Wow! What a charming cottage with a funky, uber-relaxed feel. A true lake house vibe with all that entails--sit on the porch and watch the boats go by, splash in the lake, build a campfire on the beach and count the stars. This is a great place to unwind and put your feet up. The location is very private, yet close to the charms of Middlebury when you want to grab a good meal or do a bit of shopping. Laurel is such a charming "land lady" (ha!) and a great hostess. We had a wonderful time and are looking forward to a return visit.

Idyllic retreat

Everything about this visit was exactly right. The owner was personable and quick to communicate, the setting was exactly as described and the house was comfortable. Located almost IN the lake, we were well entertained watching eagles, cormorants and terns fishing. My husband discovered HUGE bass just fishing from shore and our water dog was in heaven just paddling along the shore for hours. The local grocery store was adorable and had anything you needed. It is just a short trip to Middlebury for lunch or golf (beautiful course at the college - open to the public) and bucolic scenery all around. What more could you ask for! We will definitely stay here again.

Beautiful spot and fun, funky cabin

This was a great place to stay with our family (kids 7 & 9). The view is exactly as pictured. We loved taking the kids out on the canoe and relaxing on the deck looking at the lake and mountains. The kids enjoyed skipping stones and splashing in the water, though it is not a great swim spot which was clear from the listing as well. It was super hot (over 90) and Laurel provided a portable AC unit which was helpful to cool down the whole cabin. The kids slept fine in the smaller bedroom on the twin bed and the provided air mattress. The place is rustic and it is not spotless but don't go there expecting a Ritz and you will enjoy.

Perfect weekend getaway!

My weekend was exactly as I hoped for and more than I expected. Charming, scenic, cozy and private. It was an adorable cottage with all the amenities and facilities that a couple could require. We enjoyed gathering wood for our private bonfires at the beach (purchased some local too since we had a fire every day and night!). We cooked over the open fire, paddled ourselves down the shoreline in a light rain, and played board games on the deck while enjoying the lake views and sunsets. Just perfect. A Bonus.....the surrounding area was like driving through a New England calendar. A spontaneous visit to the nearby Alpaca farm and Morgan Horse farm was an extra treat. Laurel has a gem and I look forward to going back for a longer stay next year. Thank you!!

bohemian, romantic, perfect getaway

Read the owner's description and you will get a flawless picture of the cabin (and of her :-). This cozy cottage totally lives up to its billing. It's secluded (but Middlebury and Vergennes are not far away). It's quiet, apart from the occasional early-morning fisherman speeding to his favourite spot and the lonesome, distant train whistle). All the basics are there (kitchen, beds, books, indoor plumbing, electricity, wifi), and it comes with all sorts of wonderful de luxe extras, like lake views, distant hills, passing herons, and nearby eagles. We paddled around on the lake, relaxed on the stony beach, took day trips, and slept soundly all night through. The owner's eclectic decoration scheme charmed us (including the the fairy lights everywhere), and we felt comfy and at home until (sadly and far too soon) we had to pack and go home. We've already recommended Camp Casey to local friends who need a place to get away from the big city (*smile* that is, Burlington), and we'd recommend it to anyone else who wants a quiet, funky place to enjoy the lake.

Cute, quaint and cozy

This is a traditional, rustic lake cottage and a throwback to a softer time. Most of my time was spent on the large deck overlooking the lake, enjoying the 180 degree view. It's partially covered, so you can sit on it in the rain. The sunsets provide a 2-hour constantly changing canvas of color and shapes. The inside of the cottage is open, light and airy with big windows, comfortable seating and beds. and all kinds of artwork, antiques and books. This is a great place to stay no matter the weather or your mood. It's the perfect tranquil spot if you're looking to unwind or have a romantic getaway. Adding to the enjoyment of your stay is Laurel, the host. She is one of the most interesting people you will ever meet -- very bright, quirky, funny, and kind. She's an artist and former professional singer/performer who has put a lot of artistic touches and time, effort and care into making the cottage and its environment a beautiful and magical respite.

Good location but disappointing experience overall

Great views of Lake Champlain, but we were disappointed in the lack of cleanliness of the cabin and the availability of such basics as wash cloths. The pans in the kitchen were not clean. The bed was uncomfortable, had only one pillowcase, and apparently had unchanged linens. Based on her personal and written remarks it is clear that the cabin is not necessarily cleaned between rentals. We were expected to take our garbage to a dump somewhere which was open only on Saturdays. In the evenings, if the wind was blowing our way, we could smell the dairy farm not far away. We would not rent this cabin again.

Transported back in time

What a beautiful little place
if you grew up spending lots of time in the Catskills and Adirondacks like I did, it will feel like home. The views of the lake and sunset cannot be beat, and the cabin is decorated so lovingly and with such pizazz (Laurel’s artisti talent is clear). And the BOOKS
so many books to leaf through. I reserved this rental for myself, my husband, and our two dogs with the plan of exploring nearby towns but mostly relaxing and reading (which I never seem to be able to do at home
), and it did not disappoint. I did not go in the lake since VT had recently had a lot of rainfall/flooding, but there were two kayaks ready to go if we needed them. There’s no TV, but the wifi is fast, so you can stream on your laptop or tablet if you really must
but I recommend you sit outside and watch the hummingbirds whiz past while the chipmunks snack on their peanuts only a few feet away. Laurel is a lovely host— she really wants you to enjoy the house and nearby area, and she is so responsive; I was sorry I did not get to meet her in person. I hope we can return next summer for longer. Being there made me feel like a kid again. A really special place.

We'll be back!

Laurel's little compound on the lake was perfect - exactly what we wanted for a week away from the city. We spent a LOT of time on the porch which overlooks the lake - amazing sunsets, tons of wildlife (eagles!) and very little boat traffic. When not lounging, we used her canoe and my paddle board to explore the area, checked out a couple of great little nearby towns and consumed a lot of maple-syrup-containing products. The house itself is filled with books and artwork and we found it to be very comfortable. Visiting in July, we never had to turn on the AC, as the evenings are cool and there are lots of fans around. And I have to give a special mention to the kitchen. I love to cook and have never been to a rental that was so well-equipped. Even the knives were sharp. I think this is because it's Laurel's home which she graciously gives up so that others can enjoy her oasis. We had some minor problems with the wifi (problems stemmed from the provider's end, not the house) but communication with Laurel was super easy, as she was just staying next door. All is all we can't wait for a return visit.

Awesome lake experience

This was our first visit to Lake Champlain and our first time using VRBO. We couldn't be happier with the whole experience. The cabin was clean, inviting and decorated in a fun and creative way. The view over the lake was exactly what we were looking for and we spent long hours on the deck enjoying quiet mornings and spectacular sunsets. We were in the lake every day swimming, tubing, kayaking, and canoeing. Our dog (a large Bernese Mountain Dog) felt right at home and, while not a big swimmer, paddled around happily in the shallows while we were in the water. A couple of evenings we built a bonfire on the shore and made s'mores - a big favorite with the kids. We spent a lot of time reading, drawing, and playing cards and board games. We visited the nearby store (15 mins drive) a few times for supplies and drove to Middlebury (30 mins) for takeout, coffee, and browsing the excellent, dog-friendly bookstore (a big surprise!). We did two side trips - one to Fort Ticonderoga (excellent) and another to Six Flags (for the kids) and Lake George (for the dog). Laurel was an excellent host: welcoming, helpful, but not at all intrusive. We thoroughly recommend this cabin for anyone looking for a real lakeside getaway.

I grew up in Middlebury, and this house was where we kids escaped since I was in high school. We had some pretty great parties then, and now that my parents are gone, I treasure those memories greatly. My parents left the 'camp' to me, and being an artist, AND a city girl, I decided that the only way I could keep the cottage was to redesign and renovate it- and rent it out to pay the taxes! My daughter visits, not often enough of course, and we enjoy our quiet time together here- scrabble, canoeing, campfire and marshmallows. I've met wonderful people who vacation here, and some have become long time friends! I thought it would be a bit of a headache, the renting, not being a business person, but it's been really FUN! I've enjoyed creating a cozy haven, and it makes me happy, and know it would make my parents happy, to know that people are having a great time in this special spot. I love it when guests find an interesting piece of slate or a fossil, and leave it on the counter. I've had a few people who were real sticklers for perfection... usually catch on to them by their cryptic e-mails. One woman demanded the a tree that blocked her view of the lake be cut down. She said, 'Hell! I'll cut it down, give me a saw!' - I didn't want to kill the poor tree but trimmed it later. Kind of.

Pourquoi avoir choisi cet hébergement ?

I continue from above- A third generation Vermonter, everybody is gone now, daughter in D.C., two brothers live far away- others are six feet under!- so it's just me, and my dog- holding on to our sliver of paradise! I spent most of my time in New York or Providence, being both painter and performance artist/cabaret singer. Not much work in these parts for the likes of me. I now spend time in Ajijic, Mexico! As I travel the country I am beginning to realize how special Vermont is. I always took it for granted- the quiet, leaving keys in the car all the time, feeling safe, fresh air, the beauty and peace. And there is no reason to draw the curtains...ever...only the squirrels are around to peep in, and they could care less. There are now three kayaks for your use. Sturdy, indestructible. Canoe, too. Middlebury is 13 miles away, fantastic farmers market Wed. and Sat. all summer.!!!

Quels sont les atouts de cet hébergement ?

My parents chose this property, I think, because they felt a camp should be an escape hatch! they chose the boonies!- and now, all these years later, it's STILL the boonies- friendly neighbors round the bend. little path in front of the cottage to easy stairs to private slate beach. I tell my guests all the secret Vermont hide-away trails, brooks, swimming holes! I have had a few people who didn't have a bohemian bone in their body, and I could spot them the minute they got out of the car- a heavy, negative energy that just doesn't fit in this colorful, gorgeous, happy place. Camp Casey isn't perfect- you WILL see a cobweb!- there is no stopping them, so close to the lake and way out in the country. You WILL hear a screaching fox in the woods, and you will also see shooting stars, as the sky has no light pollution. I sometimes take a lawn chair down to the beach and lay back, say 4 in the morning, and watch the show. Mosquitos don't like the lake breeze, neither do black flies, so with a little bug spray you're good to go. I would rather have NO guests than unhappy guests or guests who didn't understand where they were headed, and who I didn't think would be a good match for the place. I don't want to ruin the loving energy of the house with people who are looking for the Ritz-Carlton.
