Even though we did not spend a lot of time in the cabin/house. We did enjoy the location and our surroundings. Stairs were a little challenging for our not so mobile friends. But overall had a wonderful week.
Weekend stay in Lake City with father (90) and brother
Nice place but several problems- I informed the owner but no response, so here goes.
-No ice maker or even ice cube trays
-Stairs going down to two bunk rooms are death trap
-no lighting on those stairs
-No hair dryer in lower level bathroom, and not even an electric plug
-Cook ware was very nice
-Beds downstairs were awful and placed on sheets of plywood
-Master bedroom is a loft upstairs with no wall or door
-No tv on main floor, only one downstairs with dangerous stairs
-Kitchen countertops need to be re-sealed
-Master toilet has a small leak
-Gas BBQ grill- gas can was empty- which we learned as we were getting ready to grill steaks
-No smoke or fire detectors in kitchen, or anywhere
-No vent hood in kitchen
Could be a very nice place to stay, but I will not ever book again unless the owners acknowledge and fix these simple problems.
Our group came to Lake City to hike Handies Peak, the 14'er. Very clean, great location, lots of space for our group. Would definitely stay there again.
The home was beautiful and the location convenient. Not as remote as appears in the pictures. Does not sleep 8 adults..2 - 4 adults at most. Kids on twin bunks and blow up. Parking situation- not user friendly for trucks with attached trailers.
Great Location for Lake City â Clean and Comfortable
This property is exactly as represented in the listing. Attention to detail is impressive and the floor layout plan lends itself to an open gathering environment. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes and cutlery, they were even a few spices such as salt, pepper, and cooking oil. (I would confirm with the owners about any food products left over.)
Sleeping arrangements are best for a family with children, with the primary bedroom upstairs being quite sumptuous. The two smaller rooms downstairs are certainly adequate, but on a different floor.
Bathrooms are modern and very clean. It is nice to have three bathrooms and on-demand water heating for a group of four adults. The towels and linens were in good shape.
We found that AT&T and Verizon cell service both had excellent reception at the house as well as throughout Lake City itself. The Wi-Fi was adequate for basic email and Internet browsing.
The plowed parking spot was fine for our two vehicles. The Mountain Views, especially south, were very impressive. Classic Colorado.
The only minor letdown was the view into the neighboring properties with bits of vehicles, building materials, etc. scattered about. But to be fair, this is typical of remote, small towns everywhere in the US.
Overall we were pleased with everything at Half Street Haven and will definitely consider another visit. A fine place!
Fantastic property. Very comfortable master suite. Lots of room in bottom floor for kids to hang out. Well stocked kitchen with all utensils and basic cooking supplies. Big gas grill is great for cooking. Great bakery in walking distance makes great breakfast pastries! Fantastic view of Lake city and mountains.
Small town feel, snow on Christmas Eve, deer wandering through the yard and town- it was a great stay here at Half Street Haven. The house was well appointed, we had seating for 8 at the table as well as everything we needed in the kitchen. House was comfy and warm, and everything was really clean. Wally was really helpful when the power went out (which I told was a freak occurrence due to the amount of snow falling) and used his local contacts to let us know it would be on shortly.
I need to clarify one thing about the house- the master âsuiteâ is the entire 3rd floor and doesnât have a door on the room or the bathroom. You can hear everything up there all through the house.
The location is perfect and the views were awesome. It was very quiet and relaxing. We had 7 adults and the dining table was really great for playing games and just having fun. The kitchen was stocked better than any other property we have rented. There were 3 floors with a bathroom on each floor which was great!
We really enjoyed our stay and our time together as a family. The house was beautiful and the location perfect. We will be renting again in the future.
We had an awesome week! It was warmer than usual being July 4th weekend according to the locals. We still had beautiful surroundings with the cabin and got to enjoy all the trails straight from this location. We had 7 adults staying here and the ammendaties were great. We couldn't ask for a better place.
This was the perfect place for our family to stay during our visit to Lake City. Everything about the property was warm and welcoming. The views from the property are amazing. We very much enjoyed our stay and exploring in the area!!
I actually want to give Half Street Haven a REALLY bad reivew so that it will never be rented out again and we know we can stay there anytime! However, this place was a perfect last minute escape for my family. We are told Lake City is so much more in summer, but it was just the right fit for us in winter. Owners were very responsive to our texts and had some amenities there for us when we arrived. Lake City is NOT the place you want to go for the tourist rush of other Colorado ski cities. If you are looking for a quiet place with SNOW to connect and reconnect with family and friends, then this is the place. Half Street Haven was perfectly situated to be any place (Climb Eatery, Grocery Store, Ski Hill, Lake San Cristobal, the movie theater, Sportsmans, ice skating rink, ice climbing wall) in mere minutes (but, let's be honest, Lake City is so small you can be anywhere in mere minutes). Elk visited us daily on the nearby (frozen) Pete's Lake. Only negative was that after a long day of skiing is that the bathtub which would have been perfect in which to soak was not working (but owners have a sign saying they are awaiting parts so hopefully it will be working when place is next booked). But there were 3 showers (and since this was vacation we honestly didn't bathe that much anyway!) . I highly recommend this place, loft bedroom for adults and basement floor with 2 sets of bunk beds for kids. Oh! And the heated floors...lifesaver for the feet. Enjoy! And we hope to be back to enjoy this little gem of a place in the summer!
The spiral staircase could be a problem for older people, but great for teens. 2 bedrooms downstairs - both bunk beds, share a bathroom. Also could use a couch on the main floor, as it was the main visiting location, and we brought dining room chairs to the area to relax
Our group rented this cabin for a weekend getaway. It had great sleeping arrangements, a wonderful kitchen and the coolest staircases around. We would highly recommend it and will definitely consider it again for ourselves. Thanks for a great stay!
