Absolutely loved this property! It was quiet, clean, and perfect for a weekend getaway. Definitely recommend, it was right on a small lake with an easy drive to downtown Charlevoix. Would for sure stay here again.
Very lovely site, perfectly sized cabin for my partner and I. Amazing view of the lake, spectacular sunsets and convenient to Charlevoix and places beyond.
Enjoyed our stay here so much! Communication was wonderful, place was exactly as listed! We wanted something off the beaten path with great views and we got it! Not too far from downtown ann public beach access either!
Property was as advertised, very peacefully and was updated beautifully. We absolutely loved our 5 day stay and would recommend for anyone looking to get away and back to nature.
Nice little cottage. Shared waterfront and dock. Really nice lake - very quiet and good size. Wifi didn't have internet connection. Overall, a fair value.
We have stayed in many rentals through VRBO over the years and this has to be one of our favorite finds. The cottage has everything you need for a perfect getaway vacation with a nice open floor plan. It has a great quiet setting right on the lake that is just a short drive to Charlevoix and all that it has to offer plus an easy drive to Petoskey, Traverse City and the other resort communities in northern Michigan.
We very much enjoyed our week at the cottage on Nowland Lake. The place was clean, comfortable and well-equipped. The view of the lake made our stay especially pleasant. The environment was so peaceful. The only sounds we heard during our time there were the calls of the lake loons and
mourning doves. We highly recommend vacationing at this cottage.
Very nice little cottage on a very quite lake. The water was wonderful and so was the location. The loft space was much smaller than we thought and not really big enough for our two kids (6 and 4). Overall it was a great place to get away to and recharge.
My college aged daughter and myself stayed in this adorable little cottage. We wanted to be close to Charlevoix to explore the town, Petoskey, the beaches & nature. We enjoyed kayaking on Nowland Lake, a bonfire, stargazing and watching & listening to the Loons. This cottage is small but makes Great use of the space it has & is perfect for a couple of people or a small group. We would definitely stay here again if we're in the area. So Many Great things about it!
The tranquility of the lake in the front yard was awesome. Perfect location to take day trips Fish Town, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Charlevoix and Petoskey.
Swam in the crystal clear water everyday, steps away from the cottage. A kayak or paddle board would make this the perfect location, but there arenât any at the cottage.
Other than the lack of a kayak, it was perfect.
We stayed at this cottage August 1 - 6. Absolutely beautiful! Very peaceful and the scenery is awesome. We spent a lot of time on the dock watching the wildlife and listening to the Loons and the Mourning Doves. The sunsets are wonderful. This cottage has everything you need - just bring your clothes, bathing suits, and food to cook on the grill. There are several other cottages close by so the weekend was a bit more active and noisy with people around. Charlevoix is just a few miles away so take some time to visit there, you won't be disappointed!
Upon arrival we were greeted by green grass, so many birds singing, and the very best view of Nowland Lake! Every look out of the expansive windows of the cottage was of the lake and sky and beautiful trees. Meals at the dining table, cooking out on the patio, enjoying the Adirondack chairs looking over the lake, and long walks along the drive were serene and restorative. We loved watching for and hearing the Loons, listening for the wide variety of birds, and seeing deer and chipmunks and other wildlife. The cottage is delightful with all of the needed amenities for living lakeside! This location affords the best of everything - enjoying the quaint town of Charlevoix the Beautiful and living along the lake.
The cottage owners were very helpful and responsive with any questions we had. The wireless internet allowed us to stay connected while enjoying time away.
We are already looking forward to returning next year!
There was a lot to like about this cottage, especially the peaceful location right on a small lake with swimming available right outside the door.
The living room / kitchen was just as pictured, with nice windows and views of the lake and sunset. There is a lot of shared public space which lends a nice atmosphere to the cottage.
The bedroom and bathroom were small and dark, though. I opted to sleep on the sleeper sofa in the living room instead of staying in the bedroom and I spent as little time in the shower as possible. I wasn't expecting anything fancy, but these two spaces would benefit from a refresh and deep clean.
This is a lovely cozy cottage on a quaint and private inland lake just minutes from beautiful Charelvoix. This was our second stay and I wish I could keep the place a secret, as it is already booked through the summer and into the fall. The owners are easy to talk to, welcoming, and accommodating. Communication is prompt.
We met a few of the residents of the cottage grouping during this visit and they are so welcoming. It was still quiet and relaxing. A few fishing boats out on the water. We brought our own kayak and enjoyed paddling the entire lake. Saw a family of loons while paddling and heard them every day.
Charlevoix is perfect in every way. We've had a family cottage in the area for 35 years, so we are a bit prejudiced. It is small enough not to attract big franchise stores and restaurants while big enough to offer unique shopping, many beaches and water sports, and hiking and biking. You can easily travel to Petoskey, Harbor Springs, or Traverse City for bigger venues.
The cottage is adequately equipped with kitchenware for cooking meals in, including several spices. The beds are serviceable but the mattresses will need upgrading soon. I slept on the pullout couch last visit but this time I brought an air mattress. There is plenty of floor space for a couple of them if need be. The mattress in the tiny loft area seemed very comfortable. We only checked it out but didn't sleep there. The headroom clearance in the loft is quite limited. You'd only put one person there (and best probably an older child or teen).
We did not use the window air conditioner as the weather was ideal and the windows are spendid! The breeze from the lake is pure summer. (We did use the gas fireplace for heat during our fall trip. It was perfect for heat and ambiance.)
We love this place. My sister and I were here together each time. We are in our fifties. Will try to book sooner so we can stay in the summer and in the fall every year. Our fall trip last year was as wonderful as this stay.
The owner, Jill, has been genuinely warm & welcoming, happily sharing info & ideas for fun things to do in the area. The cute little lake house is beautifully situated on Nowland Lake, & is a perfect place to watch stunning sunsets. The neighborhood & lake are blissfully quiet. There we enjoyed kayaking & fishing. The cottage itself is clean & well appointed, very comfortable, with lots of windows overlooking the lake. Only a short drive into town where there are lots of restaurant & shopping choices. This has been a perfect choice for us to enjoy a lovely get away & de-stress.
We loved the location of this lovely little cabin. The neighborhood is quite walkable and though it was a hot week we have plenty of shade and a great breeze off the lake. The owner, Jill, was excellent with answering my many questions and it was very pleasant to converse with her.
We had an issue with the shower head so I sent Jill a note and she had her handyman out quickly to do an expert job on replacing in. Thank you Jill and mr. Handyman. :-)
The lake was lovely with all the loons - we heard them all times of the day and evening - though it was a bit slurry like on the bottom. One caution my sister did come out of the lake with a leach attached to her ankle. That said it is only 15 minutes to Lake Michigan so we went there a lot!!
Great night sky, too!
We had a wonderful fall getaway at this gem of a property just outside of Charlevoix, MI. The scenery was breathtaking and the property is peaceful and relaxing.
My husband, John and I have lived and worked in Sarasota, Florida since 1989. Originally from Kalamazoo, MI. We have been vacationing on Nowland Lake for 15 years and when the opportunity finally came up to buy one for ourselves, we took the leap. We plan to spend all summer there once we retire, but in the meantime, we are happy to be able to offer it for rent so others can experience and enjoy this very special place!
