Northumberland is a history lover’s dream with an array of castles and historical places of interest on the doorstep. Just 4 miles away is Bamburgh with its imposing hilltop castle, whilst Dunstanburgh Castle is an easy 10-mile drive. Once there, take the family-friendly clifftop walk to Craster and sample the famous Craster kippers. For an unforgettable day out, take the 17-mile drive then cross the causeway (when it’s safe to do so!) to Holy Island. This tidal island is steeped in history with an ancient priory and castle as well as an abundance of shops and cafes to enjoy.
