Hugh and Sophie are great hosts. We really enjoyed staying at Chapel Cottage. It has a well equipped kitchen, comfortable indoor and outdoor spaces to relax in. All in the heart of the Cotswolds. There is plenty to see in the area. You are also just over an hourâs drive to Bath and Stonehenge. I highly recommend this property.
We are Hugh and Sophia Blackwell. We live in an old Chapel built in 1804. Chapel Cottage was originally the old Sunday School room and is right next door to the Chapel. We bought both properties in 1980 and converted the Chapel into a house and the School room into a studio which we used to print fabric. Eventually we converted it into a house and now it is used by our guests as a holiday cottage.
Sophia is a Cotswold lass. She was brought up in Minchinhampton. We first met in London and when we had married and decided to move to the country to start our business it seemed natural for her to return to her homeland amidst the hills and valleys and stone built villages of the Cotswolds.
. Chapel House and Chapel Cottage are unique. They are old but sturdy and well built. They have large south facing windows and an enclosed garden. The property is situated in one of the most popular villages in the Cotswolds. It is built 4 square on the top of Pancake Hill which in itself is a pretty unique name though where it came from or why remains a mystery. It has access to a network of footpaths which all have an ancient history existing as they date from well before the motor car and possibly even the horse and cart. They remain a unique feature of the Cotswold landscape.
