Qui vous reçoit ?
Vous ĂȘtes reçu par Patrick Chiam

Used to backpack solo, explored different cultural terrain and unchartered territories around the world! Now happily settled as a full time dad. When I am not chasing my kids around, I potter between my kitchen and garden. Like a border collie, I can never sit still for long. Love culinary experiments. Inspired by the philosophy of Stoicism and Buddhism. Aim to be self-sufficient, nature-loving and to leave the world a bit better than I found it.
Pourquoi avoir choisi cet hébergement ?
Matlock is such a vibrant market town nestled beautifully in the Derwent Valley. One of the coolest things about Matlock is its history as a spa town. Thanks to pioneering industrialist John Smedley in the 19th century, it became a fashionable spot for hydro and spa treatments. While the grand "hydros" of old might be offices now (like Smedley's Hydro, which is now County Hall!), that legacy lives on in the town's charming atmosphere.
But it's not just about history! Matlock and its close neighbour, Matlock Bath (used to be called "Little Switzerland" because of its dramatic cliffs and riverside setting!), offer so much fun. Matlock Bath has a real holiday vibe, almost like a seaside town without the sea! You'll find quirky shops, amusement arcades, and delicious fish and chip shops lining its main street. A highlight there is the incredible Heights of Abraham, where you can soar above the valley in a cable car for breathtaking views and explore fascinating show caverns.
Back in Matlock town itself, you absolutely have to visit Hall Leys Park. It's an award-winning green space with a lovely boating lake, miniature railway (perfect for little ones!), riverside walks, and beautiful flowerbeds. It's a wonderful spot to relax, have a picnic, or catch a brass band concert in the summer.
Matlock is also a fantastic base for exploring the wider Peak District. You can easily access scenic walking trails and enjoy the stunning countryside. Plus, for history buffs, the nearby Cromford Mills, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a must-see. It's where the modern factory system began with Sir Richard Arkwright's water-powered cotton spinning mill â truly a place where history was made!
So, whether you're after a bit of vintage charm, thrilling cable car rides, peaceful park strolls, or adventures in the Peak District, Matlock truly offers a special and friendly welcome!
