Right on the beach. We had the upper floor and we sat on the deck 90% of the time we were at the property and just stared at the ocean, read, played games, ate meals. It was beautiful. We are snorkelers and the snorkeling was very good right off the beach. Not much live coral but there was an abundance of sea life. Good restaurants a short drive away and a well stocked grocery store in Holetown. Had a car and did day trips to different beaches and sights every day. This is a very nice property and we would definitely stay there again if we go back to Barbados.
Wonderful and relaxing 3 days on the west coast. Everything needed to enjoy the sea and beach, steps from the patio. Great communication and flexibility when we needed to postpone the trip. Highly recommend and look forward to returning.
From the balcony, you are surrounded by tall palms, a grassy garden, birdsong. Itâs truly magical. Itâs not luxurious. Itâs authentic, genuine, clean and very comfortable.
Highly recommend!
The apartment is beautiful, with a stunning view through three sets of large double doors directly to the ocean, and a huge deck with a complete dining area, lounge area and a hammock. Our two kids (3 and 6yo) fit very comfortably in the separate bedroom, and it was great having their own bath and shower. The space is an authentic island cottage with interesting architectural features and quality craftsmanship. It is not trying to be a glass and metal McMansion, and Iâm glad itâs not. You are immersed in nature; we loved going to bed with the sounds of the tree frogs and waking with the birds. Friendly green monkeys played right outside a couple mornings. Of course you canât pick and choose nature- like anywhere in the tropics, birds will try to eat your crumbs and there will be insects around, but nothing out of the ordinary, and certainly not a mark of any cleanliness issues; the place was spotless. Although all beaches on Barbados are public by law, the one in front of the house felt like a private beach, we only saw 2 other people walking past. The water is calm, and no sargasso, even when the south had it. When we were there there the beach was fairly narrow, but plenty deep to lay a towel down in soft sand and not risk getting wet, and just to the left and right are larger beaches you could easily walk to. The owner was kind, flexible and wonderful, with great recommendations. We hope to come back soon!
We had a great stay in the upstairs apartment overlooking the ocean.
The accommodation is great, it is not 5 star but you don't need that here as you live outside on the veranda, on the beach and if you are us at The John Moore Bar round the corner.
Marc made us incredibly welcome and after 4 weeks of pure joy I am writing this as we prepare to fly home - I've never not wanted to go home before.
Magical in every way.
Enjoyed the beautiful beachfront and deck. Easy access to bus routes. Be sure to communicate arrival time with the host. The lock for the unit is a key so you need to arrange the time with the housekeeper to enter the building. The dryer does not work well. But everything else was picture perfect! This will be a tough one to beat. The local people are very friendly. We had wonderful times eating at close restaurants and pubs within walking distance. We also had a blast on our snorkeling tour on el tigre catamaran. Super crew, great food and drinks. We will be back!
We stayed at St James garden in the upper unit in August 2019 and we had a wonderful time. The property is so well located and the view on the ocean is simply breathtaking. We watched the sunset every night from the veranda or directly on th beach right in front of the property. If you walk on the beach about 200 feet left, there is a beautiful sandy beach with sun chairs. No seagrass at all. Simply cristal clear blue water (unlike Crane Beach or the East coast of the island, unfortunately).
The kitchen is well equipped and you have everything you need. Marc, the owner, was so kind. He even make the arrangements to get us a table The Cliff restaurant for my birthday!
If you look to find the perfect location, do not hesitate to go there. Other houses may be more luxurious but you will probably not be directly on the beach and for us, itâs was definitely worth it. We will go back there someday. Itâs a little peace of paradise on earth!
The apartment was spacious with a lovely terrace overlooking the sea.
The bedrooms and bathrooms clean but the kitchen seemed to be in need of a bit of a deep clean.
We were happy with the check in information provided prior to arriving. We arrived to find the apartment open and the house keeper turned up a bit later.
We were contacted once during our 7 night stay to be asked whether we needed any house keeping.
There are 2 buildings on site and perhaps the daily service applied to the other building.
The apartment was good enough for what we wanted but there was quite a lot of noise from people working on the adjoining properties. The Internet seems to call the apartments St James Bay luxury apartments but I think that description is pushing it. The picture of the beach must be old as it is not as deep now, like a lot of the Caribbean to be fair.
The apartment is not expensive compared to some and so I felt that the price was fair for what was on offer.
Perfect setting on a very nice beach. Very relaxing. Charming apartment that I would definitely recommend. The balcony deck was in constant use. Itâs located in a quiet area but there are a few bars/ rum shacks and restaurants nearby and itâs just a short bus ride to Holetown or Bridgetown. The manager was very helpful before and during our stay as was the housekeeper. Would definitely return.
I spent a week here with my teenage daughter and her friend in July 2018. We stayed in the upper two bedroom villa. The view is fantastic overlooking a well-manicured yard with palm trees and the Caribbean. I loved relaxing in the hammock on the porch While reading a book or napping and listening to the waves crash. I would recommend having a rental car... it makes exploring on your own easier without being limited by the bus schedule. We did use the bus though when going out on the town, and easily got a taxi to bring us home. Itâs about a three minute drive to Holetown where there are great restaurants and a big grocery store and gas station and post office and everything you need. Mark is the owner and happen to be on the premises while we were there and he was so helpful in helping us find our way around the island and getting us recommendations. I wouldnât go to Barbados without going on a big catamaran excursion for a day trip. Go with the more expensive trip and itâs well worth the money. Thank you Marc for all of your help and kindness during our stay.
We spent a very relaxing, very calm 3 days at Upper James Bay in this generously sized apartment looking across a shady garden to the beach and sea beyond.
A very private and quiet apartment, sitting well back from the road, so the only sounds are those of the waves and the insects/frogs at night, the flat is generally well equipped and all rooms are spacious.
The verandah occupies the full width of the apartment allowing plenty of space for four to eat breakfast in comfort or to relax in easy chairs with a drink while watching the sun set ... or at the other end there's the hammock...
And the beach, which we only shared with the one or two families occupying other apartments in James Bay (and then only from time to time), is beautiful, sandy, shaded if you want it, and with plenty to see for these who snorkel - including the occasional turtle if you're lucky.
We would recommend renting a car as the nearest places to shop or eat are quite a walk.
The property and surrounding scenery is spectacular
We really enjoyed our stay at James Bay. It was relaxing and the scenery is beautiful. One suggestion would be to have information within the condo of local telephone numbers , recommended restaurants , taxi companies etc.
Thank you for a wonderful stay.
