Hilltops - a bungalow that sleeps 4 guests in 2 bedrooms
Hilltops enjoys outstanding countryside views and is a comfortably furnished 2 bedroom detached village bungalow. Sleeping a total of 4 guests in a twin bedroom and a double. Facilities include a bathroom with w/c and a shower room also with w/c, this lovely home is perfect for a peaceful holiday away from it all. In proximity to the village of Wroxall and a 10 minute drive from the Victorian coastal town of Ventnor, this home is situated perfectly to access the beaches and the scenic landscape of this beautiful part of the Island. To thoroughly enjoy the rolling hills backdrop the owners have built out a lovely rear patio and extended the bungalow to focus on this fabulous feature. Outside dining furniture and a separate bistro area add to the enjoyment of this pleasurable country aspect garden. Wroxall village itself has a handy convenience store and public house; The Star Inn. There is a local bus stop at the bottom of the hill that is on the main route to Ventnor or North to Newport and also to Shanklin. Numerous footpaths are nearby to explore, taking you in all directions, the best of which is the Stenbury Down and Worsley Obelisk walks.
Another relaxing stay at Hilltops. The property was spotless , well furnished with all you could need for a weeks holiday provided, plenty of crockery glasses and cooking utensils. The area is very quiet so you get a good night's sleep and the views from the back garden are to die for. Only a five minutes walk to the bus stop and a very good service to Ventnor and beyond, we used the busses a lot..
This property was an ideal base for the week on our holiday, it is very spacious with good views of rolling countryside from the back garden. The kitchen was well equipped, it also has two showers and toilets so is ideal for families. The use of the garage is a big bonus and one of the criteria we require when booking a holiday property as we need somewhere for secure bicycle storage.
We only have one minor criticism and that is the lack of table lamps in the lounge area, we ended up using a lamp from one of the bedrooms as the ceiling light was very bright in the evening. A dimmer switch on the ceiling light would also be an effective solution.
Overall an excellent property.
Very comfortable and well equipped property with stunning views across open country side. Located in a quite residential area of the Isle Of Wight its an idea location to explore the island.
Our second stay at Hilltops, again we really enjoyed our holiday. Very quiet with views over the Downs from the spacious lounge and garden. Very convenient for Ventnor, there is a bus stop a few minutes away on the main road. Hope to return next year, we love the IOW and Hilltops is the perfect place to stay.
Very clean and comfortable and very well equipped . Lovely view over the countryside. Perhaps the patio could be cleaner and better furnished but a very happy stay here.
We enjoyed our week in Hilltops! Lovely bungalow, very quiet, well equipped. Be aware that the garden is on a slope - 3 steps down to the patio - if you have mobility problems, be careful!
Our third visit to Hilltops really says it all. A lovely bungalow with everything you need for a self catering holiday. There is a bus stop down the road with a fantastic service, to Ventnor, Newport Shanklin or places inbetween. Some good walks straight from your front door, over the Downs to Ventnor, along the old railway track to Shanklin or over the Downs to Godshill. Super restaurants in Ventnor, just five minutes by bus. In other words the perfect holiday home, and considering our summer this year we struck it lucky weather wise!
Beautiful landscape views and calm place for holiday break.
The bungalow was very clean and spacious. My siblings all enjoyed the views from the garden, and very pleased with the inside, clean and tidy. We felt at home and didn't want to leave. The kitchen had everything we needed for the stay. Even found the extra tea towels in box. The ironing board and sofa bed in the conservatory, and lots of board games in the sideboard. Very nice place, we're definitely book for next holiday.
This is a lovely bungalow with amazing views in a surprisingly quiet location. It is well equipped with everything you need. We found it hard to drag ourselves away from the view from the lounge/diner and enjoyed the peace and quiet.
It is in a good location for getting around the island, close to a local shop and only a short drive from a selection of eateries. Only slight drawback is the steep hill to get to the bungalow but no problem if you are fit or driving. There are a few steps to get into the property as it says in the details but even though we are not in our prime, they were ok.
Pros:
- Clean and spacious
- Great view across the downs
- Outdoor seating
- Knives in the kitchen are actually sharp! (a rarity!)
- Close to Ventnor (among other places)
- Everything worked in the house
Cons (nitpicking):
- As with everywhere on the IoW, it sits at the top of a steep hill. The driveway is also steep so tricky if you're a nervous driver
- Sun shines through the twin bedroom window in the morning and curtains are quite thin - so can wake the kids up early
Bungalow was very spacious and comfortable; wardrobe or more hanging space would have been nice especially for larger families. The beds were very comfortable, as per previous review curtains in twin room were a bit light.
We found that it felt a bit cold in some of the rooms especially Mornings and Evenings. but who could hate the outlook from the windows at the back of the property. A few colourful pictures on the walls would have given it a more homely appearance.
We had a lovely weeks stay at Hilltops, so quiet with the most wonderful vistas over the Downs from the rear of the property and garden, you could never tire of that view! The property was very spacious with comfortable sofas smart tv and very quick WiFi. The kitchen was well equipped with all the appliances you could need and plenty of crockery and glasses. The only small things lacking were a kitchen roll, tea towel and a decent sized teapot, a pot for one just does not do it especially as the property sleeps four.
The main bedroom was spacious with a very comfy mattress, we had a wonderful nights sleep every night. We loved sitting out in the garden after a days walking just watching the view.
Plenty of walks from the village, over the Downs to Ventnor and to Shanklin along the disused railway line to name but two. Plus a regular bus service to Ventnor or Newport from the main road.
The only negative is the entrance to the kitchen door. We had to use that as the key safe is there but the steps were a bit awkward and downright filthy, they need a good karcher! We gave up and used the front door after day two.
We would stay there again as it was very relaxing and quiet, come home refreshed.
Kitchen was well stocked with utensils plus dishwasher tabs, rubber gloves, cleaning equipment etc couldnât fault it - a home from home. Front drive was rather steep but we did get used to it.
We really enjoyed our time at Hilltops. The house was clean and the kitchen equipt with most things we would need. For the price we paid I was really disappointed at the lack of certain things including and most importantly soap in the toilets and nice towels. The towels were thin and tiny, no hair towels, no bath mats. These small changes would make such a difference to one's stay. Had I known I would have brought my own.
We very much enjoyed our short stay at Hilltops - especially the view from the lounge over Stenbury. We have rated the location 4 as, you do need a car to stay here, walking - unless you are young and fit is challenging. The house was very thoughtfully fitted out, with everything you could need. We would definitely stay here again.
Fantastic uninterrupted countryside views with cows eating pasture in the fields, plus various species of birds and delightfully peaceful; an idyllic retreat to recharge batteries from the current day madness. Hilltops had all the modern conveniences we required, plus comfy sofas and beds. Switching the lounge areas would make good use of the floor to ceiling patio doors. Will definitely come back for a longer stay next year!
