We absolutely loved our stay here! It was stocked so well and there were all sorts of Maine decor. We really enjoyed the porch, fire pit and grill and it was nice being on the quiet side of the island. Helen was extremely communicative and even replaced the grill immediately upon us realizing the old one wasnât working. We highly recommend!!
Had a lot great hikes especially up to Cadillac mountain to see the sunrise which was awesome. The cabin was perfect very clean. Well stocked with kitchen supplies and everything else we basically needed enjoyed my stay very much
Overall a great stay! I dont think its the himeowners fault but google maps does bring you to the wrong house so that was confusing. The only other thing is we were wondering was instructions for dirty bedding and where they wanted the trash.
I've honestly lost count of exactly how many times we've stayed at Helen's cabin. We keep coming back because it's really lovely. Comfy, cozy in the right places, open and airy in the right places. It's hard to imagine visiting MDI and Not staying here.
The cottage was perfect for our Acadia vacation. It is a quintessential Maine cabin and was decorated adorably. It was a short drive to all of our hikes and we enjoyed being on "the quiet side" of the island. The kitchen was well stocked. We were a little concerned about there not be a furnace for the cool evenings, but there was plenty of firewood to make a fire with and electric heaters to keep the cottage warm.
We loved our stay at the cottage in Pretty Marsh. It was clean & cozy, and was very well stocked with everything you could need! We got in a little early and Helen was able to accommodate about an hour earlier check in, which was so kind. Itâs a great home base for all our Acadia adventures. There is a grocery store nearby, and some great local eateries. We had wildlife on the property to enjoy, including deer, turkey and porcupine. It was a really a wonderful stay! I would highly recommend this little hidden gem in Pretty Marsh!
This cabin was perfect for our stay to Acadia national park. It is located on the west side of the island which is about 20-30 minutes away from the popular trails like beehive/jordan pond/ thunder hole but only 5 minutes away from beech mountain trails which are underrated in my opinion! Overall, I think the location was perfect because it was about 20 minutes from bar harbor, 25 minutes to the nearest Walmart and there were plenty of trails nearby or closer to bar harbor. The house was big enough for my family of 4 adults and 1 child. There were two small bedrooms and a loft above the living room. Unfortunately the loft got very hot so my sister ended up sleeping in the living room on the futon. The cabin is located right down the street from a picnic area which was nice to visit as well. Overall it was a quiet cabin on the owners property. It was distanced enough from the main house where we felt we had enough privacy and we only saw the host in passing when they drove down the driveway. There is little to no phone service in the area so I highly recommend downloading your route before reaching the house because the gps did not work when were trying to find the house. There is a small kitchen which worked well for the night we ate in. There was also a bbq grill and campfire which was a pleasant surprise! I would definitely recommend staying here for a nice trip to MDI.
We had a pleasant stay , kitchen well stocked with dishes, cooking pans and nice variety of spices. The location was great, not too far from Acadia and many great places to visit. We had several enjoyable evenings around the fire pit. Definitely a low key, relaxing place to stay.
The Pretty Marsh cabin is very well appointed and the area is very quiet particularly at night. The location is out of the way but still easy to get to Bar Harbor, ANP and Southwest Harbor. The cabin does not have central air conditioning but this did not prove to be an issue even in late July.
Pros - beautiful and peaceful area. About 10 minutes from stuff to do. Super close to echo lake. About 23 minutes to bar harbor.
Clean kitchen, which was well stocked. Clean bathroom. Plenty of towels which was great. Nice fire pit area and deck. Lots of board games.
Cons - This home was more rustic than we expected. It has totally exposed wood with no insulation/drywall, which would be fine except that the wood has tons of water stains and looks like some mildew. There were spider webs in several places and it was pretty buggy, probably because there are tiny entry points in the walls. The linens were also not the cleanest, with some pet hair on many areas. Some of the box springs are exposed and in poor shape. No bugs noticed but openings in mattresses and such are higher risk for bug infestations, so I recommend checking it out. Also the one window AC was not sufficient to cool the home during a heat wave.
My partner, our dog, and I had an amazing time in this house while exploring Acadia! It was convenient for everything we wanted to do, but on the quieter side of the island (which was nice on 4th of July week, especially with a pup). The house was clean, comfortable, and stocked with everything we needed for the kitchen and bathroom. I was even pleasantly surprised to find electric blankets for one cool, rainy evening. Overall, a great stay!
I originally booked this cottage as a Christmas/Birthday present for my mom. Itâs been on our bucket list to visit Acadia National Park. We wanted a place that allowed our two dogs but also a place that was on the quiet side of the island but not far from downtown Bar Harbor or the Park entrance. The cottage was perfect! Ending up turning this trip into a little family getaway. 3 adults, a teen, and 2 dogs and there was plenty of space! We had great weather so ended up using fans at night. Loft gets a little toasty during the day but cools off fast at night. Recommendation would be to have a ceiling fan where the hanging light is in the living room. Will be booking another week next year as we didnât get to visit all the places that was on our list!
This delightful cottage was a perfect home for our family of six while we explored Acadia NP. We always prefer to stay away from the bustle of the touristy part of national parks and this little treasure was perfect. Beech mountain hike was just 10 minutes away and Acadiaâs East side hikes all within an easy drive. Everyone got their own bed and the house was equipped with everything we needed including some fun puzzles and games. Perfect little cabin for a family looking to get out into nature and then come home to snuggle and read.
Our family really enjoyed our stay at this cabin. The accommodations were cozy and inviting and the host was warm and responsive. There is so much to do in the area - this cabin is in the perfect location. The electric blankets were an added bonus and made for great rest/sleep after long days of hiking and exploration.
My husband and I grew up in Pretty Marsh and then lived away for most of our adult life. We always came back to visit our families and to spend our summers here in Pretty Marsh. My father build this cabin for my husband Niffie and me and our three daughters. We have shared many fun nights, parties and memories here and now hope that others can make their own memories. It was so nice to come back and slow down. From swimming in the ponds and lakes, boating, hiking and picking blueberries and having my mother bake her famous blueberry pie. We love the location of Pretty Marsh and being closer to the quiet side of the Island but still just a short drive to the other towns. Hope you will enjoy staying here as much as we did for so many years. Helen
