I don’t ever do bad reviews but this place was disgusting. When we arrived hair was on sheets toothpaste in sink. Nothing seemed clean at all. Stains everywhere. Had to put towels down on the couches to sit to feel any comfort. Roaches on the ground. The house stunk like it had been sitting there when we arrived. I would not recommend this place to anyone without a complete renovation.

Ocean views with easily accessible, uncrowded beach

We all had a wonderful time! Great ocean views and balconies off of every bedroom and the living room. Our hosts had everything we needed, from kitchen accessories, extra bedding, games, to the full range of beach needs. A memorable vacation!

Spring Break

Love the easy access to the beach. Even though the beds were queen size, it was better than most kings at rentals. Easy to check in and out. Had everything you could need. Loved the antique vibe.

Family vacation!

Great house for a crowd! A master with bath for the grandparents on the main floor, a master with bath for the parents and another big bath and two other bedrooms on the second floor. Good beds and linens, lots of kitchenware and a big table for ouzzles, games and meals. Plus, a great shady porch with a wonderful view overlooking the boardwalk with steps down to the beach. We had a great time and are looking forward to staying again next summer!

Perfect. Love the location. Love the down stairs entry way. Cons-(not house fault) mosquitos were horrible. The path to beach was over grown; look like wasn’t used much- so we used the house next door bridge since that house is under construction and no one there

Run down, dirty, poorly maintained

The cliff notes - Moldy shower liner, stained towels, stained linens, mold and moisture on the walls, dirty bathrooms, house is cluttered with dusty knick-knaks, broken chairs, way too much furniture to even move around the house. Property manager came out on day 1 and replaced the shower liner and brought new towels, told me the cleaning crew, plumber and maintenance would be out the next day to address all of the issues. One cleaning lady showed up and changed the sheets on one bed, mopped one bathroom, and sprayed bleach in one shower. None of the other issues were addressed. And there was no follow up with us to see if anything had been resolved. The house is clearly not being maintained and there is very little attention being given between guests. We had family staying in an adjacent house and if location wasn't a priority, we would have immediately left. I wouldn't recommend to anyone.

Quiet week on the beach

Windygate provided a lovely quiet week long vacation for my family. The house is far enough from public access on both sides that there is minimal foot traffic on the beach. The kitchen was completely stocked with cooking implements. Every cabinet was full so there was no pantry to stash our supplies and we had to stack our food on the counter. There is a gas grill on the balcony and a charcoal grill downstairs. The gas grill was hard to keep lit during high wind, so having the charcoal option was very useful. The best part was a first floor foyer, which we called the “staging area,” that connected to internal stairs. The staging area allowed us to stash our items during storms without worrying that beach gear would blow away.

Great location but cluttered

This house has a great location and is in good condition, the online photos are accurate. Everything important worked (AC, plumbing, dishwasher, appliances, etc.). The slider on the main level didn't slide or lock easily, and became next to impossible to deal with. Bring your own beach accessories. Not 5 stars because there is just too much furniture in all the wrong places! It's difficult to actually have people comfortably in rooms because the furniture is always in the way (e.g., beds and seating in front of doors leading to the decks, fragile decorative desks and chairs in corners with seemingly no purpose, limited closet space with no area to store luggage, a gigantic table and side hutch in a tiny dining area, more clutter in the side hutch rendering it useless, chairs that don't reach the height of the giant table . . .). The clutter in the kitchen was overwhelming--too much of everything and no place to store food. And the non-stick cookware is abundant, old, and scratched beyond being safe to use. For the price, we're moving on to another house for next year. Less is more, folks, particularly when you have such a nice location.

Excellent Property Management

We were alarmed when we arrived a little early for check-in and had the property manager tell us the house wasn't quite ready yet because the cleaners had reported the a/c unit was "struggling." Turned out it had died, on a Friday afternoon, when Galveston temps were higher than ever before in living memory. We thought our trip was ruined, but the host had a repair crew there in an hour and a brand new a/c unit installed within three. Pretty impressive. We were also impressed two nights later when the storm blew a utility line down, blocking the driveway. A call to the host at 9 am had an emergency repair crew there from the power company in less than an hour. The house is fine--lots of kitchen utensiles and basic staples. The rooms are comfy enough, if a tad small. The deck is great and the living/dining area is ok, though maybe a bit overstuffed with furniture. My biggest gripe was a paucity of shelves in the fridge and the absence of a grease drip pan for the grill on the deck (we told the host about this on checkout and they promised to fix). The beach is quiet and uncrowded--far from Galveston's mobs. The walkover is nice and the decks have beautiful views and plenty of room (the deck chairs could use some cushions). We've stayed in around a dozen Galveston beach houses over the years. This one is very good for the price, and you could not ask for more responsive management.

We were planning a lot of things, but the house was so beautiful that we were hanging out on the balcony mostly all the time. During the day, we enjoyed the ocean view in a shadow on the lower balcony and admired the sunset and stars in the evening on the upper balcony. Important information for people with sleep problems: there are shutters in the house! It's very comfortable! I didn't understand that you have to bring soap, garbage bags, and toilet paper with you, which is weird. And we didn't have dishwasher tablets, but according to the rules, we had to wash the dishes.
