Overall, a great experience. Location was excellent, within walking access to attractions and restaurants and the apartment had all we needed. We just wished there were elevators. Tough to deal with the steep stairs a few floors up.
Les points faibles : Emplacement et exactitude de lâannonce
We ended up staying in another apartment owned by the same company because they emailed the day before our arrival that it needed maintenance work. We were fine with this as we didnât really have any other option. The secondary apartment was very nice at first but actually had many flaws. Most importantly, it was extremely noisy at night and we didnât get much sleep because of it. Lack of sleep doesnât make for much of a holiday. As well, the nespresso machine didnât work. The kitchen has the bare minimum; not even salt and pepper. I am not sure if this is the norm in Rome but itâs not in other parts of Italy and the world.Itâs a nice looking place with easy access to many things, but thatâs pretty much it. We definitely would not stay here again.
The pictures on the VRBO site did not accurately describe what we thought we were renting through VRBO. We have stayed at a number of properties through VRBO and this is our first time staying at one in Italy, We did rent 3 other properties after this first part of our journey during our extended stay in various parts of Italy, all of which were lovely. I spoke to the property owner, who was very nice, and told her we were leaving after the first night, even though we had paid for four nights. She told me I would have to contact VRBO to notify them that we were leaving and why, which I did, and have yet to get a response from VRBOâs âinvestigationâ. I realize the folks that own these properties have a tremendous investment in them. This particular property needs some tender, loving care with cleaning the walls, floors and upholstery. The property also had a mildew smell to it. I would also recommend the owner think through what most travelers are likely not to have with them with the expectation that fundamental personal care items like a hairdryer, would be a stock item at the location. Again, in all my years of using VRBO, those items are generally stocked by the owner of the property for the traveler. My hope is that someone looking to rent this property realizes this may not quite be what you are expecting.
The apartment is in a great location. We walked most everywhere, including the Vatican, the Roman Forum and Coliseum, Spanish Steps, and Trevi Fountain. And the bus/train stop is very near. Lots of good restaurants close by. The main problem is the stairs. This is really on the fifth floor. After walking thousands of steps each day, the last thing you want to do is climb four sets of stairs to the fifth floor. You do get a nice view of Palatine Hill from the balcony. The other problem was the cleanliness of the floor. I spilled a little milk on the floor and wiped it with a napkin. The napkin came up black from the dirty floor. Gross!! Also, why don't they provide real soap. For a four day visit the only left two tiny pieces of soap. We had to go buy soap. All in all the floor and the soap is fixable. The stairs are a deal breaker.
