If you want to get away from it all, if you want to remember what it's like to breathe again, welcome to our home. It is a place for lovers; for families; for pets - a place to recharge and reconnect. If you love starry skies, native flora and fauna and fishing off the beach, this is the place for you. Two bedrooms, comprising two queen beds and a bunk; a shower and bath and two separate toilets; a fabulous well stocked kitchen and a washing machine make this a self contained holiday destination. Our home is set on nearly 3 hectares of native bush and there is a cottage garden and fruit trees where you can help yourself to whatever you can find. A walk down the track will lead you to our bay. It's tidal, so you can only swim at high tide but it's worth the trek down. You can also catch snapper from the beach. If you love nightclubs, ritzy bars, cafes where you can see and be seen, this probably isn't the place for you. But if you want to slow down and live among nature, we look forward to seeing you soon.
We found the house after a long drive at the end of the long road. It was a true haven. Stylish but not fancy, it was perfectly comfortable and we felt immediately at home. The kitchen and bathroom are perfectly designed.
We just loved everything about this place. The location, house and host. We can highly recommend spending a few days in the calm of this amazing place!
Beautiful home and property with everything you need for a relaxing getaway. Enjoyed the lovely spacious kitchen, board games, walking tracks, and bonus beach access.
The location was off the beaten track but near to Oponone Centre. The silence, apart from birdlife, was golden. It was so serene, i didnt want to leave. Next time i go, i will take enough supplies so that i can spend the entire time time looking at the view and making the most of the tranquility.leavleave
Loved the house, great kitchen for those who love to cook, private spot with stunning views. Short bush walk takes you down to the water. Amazing place and people were fantastic to deal with.
We just can't fault this place. Location is stunning. The house is probably the best we've ever stayed in for our family vibes - great for kids, doggies, and parents that need a decent break in an uncluttered, super comfy oasis. We've done a load of travelling in aotearoa and overseas and the hokianga is up there with the absolute best. Loved the views, the home's configuration, the restored bush, the beach, and those concrete floors in the kitchen ... how great are they after a sandy day of swims. Love it! Thanks for a great holiday! We'd return in a heartbeat.
Awesome place to stay, great communication, peaceful spot, great place for kids also, I would definitely stay again. Only thing maybe get someone to clean and air out before having guest arrive as it smelt closed up for a longtime but was a great stay thank you
The most relaxing stay weâve ever had. This beautiful home has floor to ceiling windows that not only allow the sun to heat the house during the day, but open to allow full access to the outdoors day and night. The most beautiful views demand your attention as you watch the changing weather move across the sky and water.
Nice Batch, even better than the pictures show. Ideal hideaway at the end of a 6km gravel road. Even good when raining as there are lots of space inside. Private beach access on a 10min trail.
Basically, most of the best impressions and experience around opoponi were about this property: view, boulders, beach, warmness. PS: if you don't find where to turn on the Owen: it is behind the microwave. And the wifi password is under the router. If you cannot find router: it is behind one of the chairs
We had a wonderful stay in this gorgeous property over Easter weekend.
The house is much more spacious than the listing photos suggest and is on a very large property that goes directly down to the beach below. Stunning unobstructed views from windows throughout and very peaceful with no discernible neighbours. The beach is 15 minutes walk through bush and is one end of the Koutu Boulders walk. If you want a grassy walk down you can also go back out the front gate and down the public pathway nearby.
Appreciated that the host had left a well-stocked pantry and condiments etc. in fridge and told us to help ourselves. We took mountains of food with us, so didn't need to, but felt this was very generous. Good range of pots, pans and kitchen utensils etc. Appreciated that we could take out dog and the reasonable dog rules: no getting on furniture and no chasing birds etc.
Things to know: the last few kms are on unsealed roads, but they are very smooth so it's not a big deal.
BTW, I see that another Annette K recently wrote a review -- that's a differnt person.
Looking forward to visiting again.
A Memorable Holiday Stay - Pure Bliss and Tranquility!
From the moment we arrived, it was clear that this was going to be a special getaway.
Nestled in a picturesque location, surrounded by lush greenery and overlooking the Hokianga Harbour, it provided the perfect setting for relaxation and tranquility.
The open-plan layout created a spacious and airy atmosphere, while large windows allowed ample natural light to flood in, offering panoramic views of the scenery.
The amenities provided exceeded all expectations. The fridge and pantry were full of different condiments, staples, and other finds which were happily utilised. The living area featured cozy seating arrangements, perfect for enjoying a good book by the fireplace. The bedrooms were havens of comfort, with plush bedding and serene views, ensuring a restful night's sleep.
Outside, the garden provided us with plenty of citrus to eat and juiceâŠa real treat. A walk down to the beach where we collected mussels was a definite adventureâŠgumboots are a must!
The hosts of the bach were exceptional. Their warm and welcoming nature made us feel right at home. Communication with them was excellent.
Our stay at this bach was an absolute delight. It was a true escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life, offering a haven of peace and serenity. From the stunning location, the wonderful amenities and hospitable hosts, every aspect of this holiday exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend this bach to anyone seeking a memorable and rejuvenating getaway. We cannot wait to return.

Thank you so much, just loved everything at your Whare!!!!
The view was mesmerising and a perfect spot to unwind with a cool beer at the end of our day.
I just have to mention the beds..zzzzzzz slept so well and super comfy.
Even Ziggy our Irish terrier loved your place, had a quick run in the bush then returned to the deck where he quickly found his favourite spot overlooking the bay.
Thank you again.
Hi - my family bought this property five years ago and when we arrived, it was choked with pampas and ginger. You couldn't walk further than the front lawn. Over the past five years, thanks to the vision and hard work of an amazing local, the land has been cleared of noxious plants and natives have been planted throughout the property. It's a work in progress, but we're getting there.
You'll either get it or you won't. For those who do, your shoulders come down from around your ears, you will sit and watch the tide come in and go out, you'll listen to the sound of birdsong and if you're lucky, you'll walk down the track and catch your own kai moana for dinner. It's magical.
