Seaside Charm

A charming modern, self contained ground floor flat, part of the hosts house, only 250m to a popular East Coast Bay beach. Private entrance, large bedroom with one queen bed, lounge/dining, fully equipped galley kitchen, bathroom with shower and separate toilet. Own outdoor area to enjoy. A perfect home away from home to explore the North Shore. No smoking, no pets, no shoes inside please. Bus stops for public transport across the road but best to have a car.
Parking ONLY available on the street, generally outside the property but being by a popular beach it can get busy and require parking further up the road, especially in summer. If this is not acceptable, please do not book. Unfortunately not suitable for people with mobility issues.
Heaters for winter, windows with bug screens and fans for summer. In order to keep the nightly cost as reasonable as possible there is no air-conditioning. Auckland summers can be humid on some days so if you require air conditioning please do not book.
Check in and out is contactless but we are available for any requests. Always happy to help with anything you may want to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.
Be aware before booking of the Vrbo cancellation policy. Refunds will be according to their policy only.
Kayaks and bikes are available to hire.

The property was really lovely and close to the beach. My only negative experience was the road noise from the main street closeby. We left the windows open and heard the noise.

Torbay Get Away

This was a lovely place to stay. The hosts were excellent and helpful. Car parking was a little tricky but worth it for the cost, cleanliness and prime location if you are a beach lover. Thank you.

Great spot!

Loved our stay. Thank you. It was in the perfect location for us, visiting the hockey stadium each day, but being 2 mins from the beach, meant we could swim everyday too. Apartment had everything we needed. I suppose, if I was looking for a criticism, it would that theres not a lot of outdoor space, but when youre that close to the beach, not sure it mattered. Thanks Alexandra, you were so kind and laid back, nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely stay again! :)location for us, visiting thestadium

Love the place, love the hosts

I came here to go to my daughter's wedding. I was staying alone the first few days until others arrived. The hosts were wonderful! Showed me beaches to walk on near the home and even took me to two places to look at works from local artists. I would 100% stay here again. I felt comfortable and very welcome.

Home Away from Home

We enjoyed a lovely two month stay at the flat, which is comfy, quiet, and spotless. Our hosts were very friendly and attentive to our needs. The location is excellent - around the corner from the local beach, and within walking distance to several others. Transit stops are a few steps from the front door on a main route that runs along the North Shore. There is a small supermarket a 10 minute walk north, and several larger ones - along with a variety of other shops - about a 30 minute walk south. The area is north of the CBD but also convenient for travel by car. Would definitely stay there again.

FABULOUS Beach Stay

Fabulous property in Auckland. Two minute walk to beautiful beach & beachside restaurant. Property manager was easy to deal with and a great communicator, also gave helpful ideas for local things to see and do.

This place in Torbay sounded to good to be true.

TRUE = 5-min. walk to the local beach TRUE = Street parking ONLY NOTE: Family uses 1+ available spots at their discretion despite having VRBO guests TRUE = Accessibility; the uneven paver situation leading up to the separate entrance was potentially treacherous both day and night, especially in the rain FALSE = NOT a private unit; owners live directly above, and we could hear everything they were doing upstairs, which means they could probably hear anything we were doing downstairs (and as newlyweds, this was very uncomfortable) FALSE = Unit has a separate entrance, which is not private from the family, as it’s their home/yard, so if they’re outside walking around doing yard work or whatever (which they were quite often “because of the holiday”), they can see inside if the curtains are left open or will want to talk to you about what you’re doing/where you’re going NOTE: No A/C or screens on windows during our stay = face the mosquitos OR sweat all day/night with windows closed (I was told – after we left – that I should have asked for the dehumidifier) NOTE: Only one old, oscillating fan was available to "cool" the unit; had to be schlepped between living room and bedroom nightly (I purchased an extension cord to provide us with the best cooling position at night) NOTE: Uncomfortable, squeaky bed may be adequate for 1-2 people no larger than 125kg combined NOTE: We left 4 days early due to illness; I spaced contacting VRBO; thus, no refund offered Do Not Recommend

Cockroaches and humidity issues

When we arrived, the host was painting in the flat under the pretense that she never gets the opportunity to 'fix' things because the flat is fully booked. We were living in the paint fumes the first week. It masked the mildew smell which became apparent later. We bought Damprids from Bunnings, placed them inside the wardrobe and the chest of drawers to prevent our clothes from the stink and didn't unpack most things. Alex is well aware of the issues and has a story/excuse ready for any complaint. She asked to keep the bathroom windows closed during the night to prevent the 'midges' from entering - in reality there are cockroaches (which she did acknowledge when I told her about the first one in the toilet). After my complaint of the mildew smell, Alex came to wash the bedroom with vinegar. The humidity and smell issues remained even though we kept the dehumidifier running when we were out. There is no sufficient airflow in the bedroom. When the fan broke we replaced it with the same model from Countdown. We left the receipt on the table and Alex sent a message afterwards thanking for the fan, but that she didn't want that model!! (In other words she had no intention to reimburse us). We cleaned and disinfected,but after having seen 2 other cockroaches in the bedroom, we left the flat 10 days earlier than we booked for. According to her message we can't take the NZ summer. We lived in NZ previously and know how humidity/cockroach issues should be addressed to prevent this.

Fun Stay!

Alexandra is a most amazing host! Easy access to beach and small shops up the hill. Easy access with a car to Devonport, Lake Pupuke, Waiheke Island and Auckland CBD.

Bus services run just across the road providing easy access to and from Albany central hub bus station taking you quickly to central Auckland. Albany shopping mall is 5km away. Browns Bay shopping area with 2 large supermarkets, restaurants, cafes and shops is 2km away. Small local shops in Torbay 800m away provides a smaller 4 square supermarket, restaurants, laundromat, cafe, green grocer, butchers and bottle store. A pleasant walk of 10 minutes. Quick easy access to the motorway North and South 4km away. Ideal base to stay, play at the beach and explore Auckland.
