Fern Valley Cabin - Native Bush Retreat in Otaki Gorge

Our private cabin is tucked away in the Otaki Gorge and looks over the Otaki river. You require a 4WD SUV (eg Toyota RAV4 ) no 2WDs are acceptable. From the carpark on Otaki Gorge Road is a 1km drive or walk on a private 4wd track and bridge crossing the Otaki river to the cabin. A perfect getaway for couples. There are plenty of bushwalks and river activities on your doorstep. Or simply relax to the sound of native birdsong.
The cabin is off grid and totally relies on solar power ,it features an open plan kitchen and lounge which opens up to the large deck with views over the river. There is one queen bedroom and a bunk bedroom which sleeps 2. You can step outside to a BBQ area and outdoor bathtub.There is limited cell phone coverage for Spark and 2degrees customers.

A wonderfully tranquil location with all the comforts one would want. The only regret on leaving after a couple of nights there was that we weren’t staying another week. We are already planning a return trip to this lovely batch.

A tranquil abode

A stunning location in the ƌtaki bush. A simple yet serene home great for a couple of nights stay. The outdoor bath is spectacular and a real treat.

Absolutely Stunning

The accommodation is excellent, the surrounding grounds are faultless. We were amazed at the quality of the buildings, garden amenities, the veiws and everything the owner's have achieved on the property. We will definitely be back and for a much longer period.

As ever, my stay at this amazing cabin did not disappoint, from the attention to detail in the cleanliness, to the filled wood basket and already laid fire, which was even more appreciated as it was full on raining. The view never tires, nor does having a bath outside in the rain, listening to a thunderstorm. Rain, sun, storms and clouds don’t make a difference when you have a few nights here to unwind, relax, retune to yourself and just ‘be’. Going to book before they close for winter.

Such a stunning and peaceful location!

We absolutely loved our 2 night stay here. Such an incredible location with breathtaking views of the river and surrounding nature and bush. The whole property is so well set up and maintained beautifully. It was such a peaceful retreat being off grid for a couple of days. We’ll definitely be back :)

Peaceful respite

Had a great time. A few things to note: 1) Didn't have 4WD but walk to the property was easy 2) Good swimming spot on site :-) 3) Great privacy - other than check in you might not see anybody for the length of your stay 4) Nice flat gardens to walk through around the property, like a mini maze and good wildlife. Owners have done an amazing job. 5) Had enough mobile coverage to stay in touch with our kids. Couldn't get mobile data but that proven to be a great thing. 6) Comfy bed and exceptionally clean! 7) Big deck, great views. I'd definitely recommend to couples who want to reconnect.

A piece of Paradise

What an amazing property this is. Tucked away in the bush. A beautiful house with the most spectacular views. The grounds are wonderful. We loved the outdoor bath, the firepit was a lovely evening treat. Such a nice relaxing time. We will be back for sure. Thank you for sharing your property.
