The Dream Week is a very difficult time for anyone who is seeking peace and quiet - the music venues had been granted licenses to continue playing music well past the normal midnight cutoff otherwise, I check with our security guards by Whatsapp on a regular basis who inform me that the music from the venues has not been intrusive during the rest of the time. Motorcycle noise is a problem all over the world. We are trying very hard to get our section of the road designated as a Quiet Zone since the property is flanked by a church and a library so that the police can enforce the laws. Until then, there will be the noise of motorcycles as a reminder that Negril is in the developing world. We spray for mosquitos on a regular basis using a Hudson ULV backpack sprayer and there are Vape mats to plug in to keep the mosquitos at bay. The mosquito netting is very effective as long as it is closed properly. We are as close as the nearest cell phone so that I can inform our security guard to spray the property if the mosquitos are a nuisance. We use a pyrethrin based pesticide which is a knock-down product and is applied as a fine mist rather than a suffocating fog. Upon checking with our staff, I was told that the guests never mentioned the mosquitos as being a problem. Nothing can be done to replace the louvered windows without losing the historical value of the home. The louvered windows were designed to promote the circulation of air long before the existence of electric fans and AC. As long as the air is circulating with fans which are in abundant supply, it should be tolerable to most who can become acclimatized in short order. The great thing about being a beach house is that the water’s edge is just steps from the veranda for a quit dip to cool off. August can be one of the hottest times of the year associated historically with the Summer doldrums. Nevertheless, there are still refreshing sea breezes. We are proud to be a green property, both literally and figuratively. Although there is the noise of the motorcycles and from the music venues which can be turned down with a call to the police station by our security guard, there is also the sound of the lapping waves, birds singing, crickets and frogs chirping. We are "Negril, the Way it Was" and represent an authentic experience. And for the record, this is the first-ever complaint that we have received about the mosquitos and only the second regarding the lack of AC in the past 25 years.
