The Cottage at Duck Creek was formerly the home of a celebrated artist and world traveler, and you can see that it was well-loved. Books of every description line the rooms, artwork covers the walls, Oriental rugs cover the floors, collections from her travels are everywhere. Much of the furniture is antique, but the bathroom is fresh and new and so are the beds. And the setting -- in an expansive garden on a peaceful inlet that amazingly, is right in the charming heart of Wellfleet. It feels away from everything, but restaurants, galleries and beaches are nearby. One caveat: while I'd recommend it highly to adults who love art, reading, nature and relaxing, I think that the personal collectibles and the steep stairs make it less appropriate for families with active young children.
