We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage. Our hosts were very responsive and we liked the quiet setting. Plenty of room and very well stocked. Would recommend.
Stayed here for a bass tournament on the James River. Only reason I didnât give it 5 stars is because of the amount of spiders/bugs in the house and it wasnât very clean. Cool place to stay, remote and very well stocked in the kitchen.
Daughter's wedding at the venue next to this property
Property was remote but that was great for our stay. Everything was very clean and neat inside. I will say it smells a little musty at first but that goes away. Bruce was very gracious when we arrived. I would definitely stay here again if traveling to the area. Convenient to Williamsburg.
My wife and I spent the weekend of October 5th, 2024. The cottage had everything we needed and we had a good time.
While it might have some land to it, it's 20 yards from a major road. It was also very musty-- so much so that we opened the windows and wore our coats while eating dinner. I will pass on some suggestions to the owner about what to do.
It really was all we wanted for a weekend away from our normal lives.
We had a great time staying here its location was perfect for us going to Williamsburg and Yorktown. The cottage is in the woods but not too far from things to do and see. The cottage was clean and very welcoming as well as the hosts we didnât really see them until the last day as we were leaving. Great people and cozy cottage with lots of room for us. The dock on the river was my girlfriendâs favorite park relaxing in the sun. We definitely recommend a stay here and weâll be back when weâre in the area again
Loved everything about the cottage, the internet was slow and even went out the last evening, but that is out of the landlordâs ability to correct. It was thoroughly explained upon check in, so we were prepared and understanding.
My only âcomplaintâ is of a personal nature and thatâs in regard to the temperature of the lighting. Please change to warm white led as the cool white was too intense for a cozy feel. There were some incandescent lights and I loved the blue bulb in my bedroom!
Highly recommend this one and will book again when in the area next!
Once again my family met there for a family celebration, my mother's 89th birthday. The cottage was perfect for our needs and provided ample space for eating and celebrating. The fireplace was used constantly during our wet and cold stay and it made the room very cozy. highly recommend this house for anyone looking to get away or to have a family reunion. The house is well furnished and equipped and makes for a great destination. And the hosts are over the top.
We absolutely loved our stay at this house. Nice little cottage with tons of room (especially for only two!). Fully furnished, nicely decorated, and snuggled back into a wooded area near the Pamunkey River. Thanks to Bruce and Karen for a restful and convenient stay. Two thumbs up!!!
My husband and and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The property was very clean, comfortable and cozy!!
The owners were so kind and helpful.
Location is close to our family, we will be back.
The cottage was perfect to stay at for my sonâs wedding. The cottage was clean and had everything we needed and location is so peaceful. I would love to stay there again.
We are a family of five, and this property was a perfect fit for us! Very clean and the property had everything we needed for a âhome away from homeâ. We also loved walking to the pier and viewing some spectacular sunsets.
Beautiful property and wonderful hosts! Secluded setting on a quiet river. This is our second time staying here and will definitely be back! We have family in the area so great retreat for us to visit all our family in New Kent County.
The cottage is nestled back in the woods, though nearby to the owner's home (who is very quiet... and it's nice to not be quite so alone). The nearby river (a short trail away) is scenic, too, with a private dock and wild bald eagles soaring overhead. By the cottage you'll hear songbirds and see deer... the air is fresh and trees sway gently with the winds... but herein lays the tradeoff: the rural setting means sluggish and spotty internet (which was okay for us, since there's so much to do in the historic triangle) and (deer) ticks! Be sure to check yourself twice daily and thoroughly. Our daughter had one attached to her neck, and my wife had two! We only stayed on the walking path to the dock and took a brief walk down the driveway/gravel road... and still all these ticks. Lyme and other tick-borne illnesses are no joke! It's a sad footnote, to an otherwise lovely, retreat-like stay.
Bruce was easy to communicate with and helpful. Recommend you get to the cottage during daylight hours because it's out away from the highway and can be a bit difficult to find. We lost our internet signal on all three of our cell phones once we got off the highway and the vehicle GPS got us in the vicinity of the cottage. Bruce's neighbor assisted us in finding the cottage. Bruce does provide more detail in how to get to the cottage once you get off the highway but I wasn't able to access it from my phone. My boys play travel basketball and we only used the cottage for showers and rest. If your looking for a quiet getaway to go off the grid this is the place for you.
The house and location were perfect for us. We were in the area to visit Busch Gardens and really didn't want to stay at a hotel or resort, with lots of other families all around us. We wanted our own place to relax in, with bedrooms and separate bathrooms (a must-have with teenage girls) and this pretty cottage delivered! We enjoyed walking down to the river and taking in the views at morning and at sunset. Check-in was easy, kitchen was spacious & had all kinds of extra supplies, location was quiet and peaceful, and overall we had a great stay!
We stayed during weekend soccer tournaments at Dorey Park. Well worth the half hour drive to have quality downtime in a comfortable space indoors and out. The boys spent most of their time on the dock fishing. No catches this time, but poles in the water is fun nevertheless!
The house is in such a beautiful setting within view and short walk of the river. Meticulously clean, nicely decorated, very well maintained property, but still feels like home. Very comfortable!
Hosts are very responsive, and though living next door, allow guests to have their own space.
Most of all, we enjoyed the peacefulness. A quiet, easy, fun family weekend. Thank you Karen and Bruce.
The cottage was so cute, well stocked, and perfect for our weekend gathering. Despite the crazy winter weather, we were comfortable and had a cozy fire in the fireplace. The sunsets are beautiful on the river.
Bruce and Karen were wonderful hosts!! We will be returning again.
