The terrace provided a wonderful view of the valley, the river, the circulating ospreys and the lightening! Great suntrap as well. Cottage had everything you needed for a peaceful holiday with the added bonus of their own wine. Comfortable but not luxurious. Lots of sightseeing opportunities and quiet out of school holidays.
This was a very nice cottage in a lovely part of the world. It was well equipped, spacious and clean and in an idyllic setting in the vineyard with fabulous views over the Dordogne River. Mary and John were lovely hosts and John very kindly showed us around the winery and explained the wine making process to us. Do try some of their Rose wine which was excellent. We also loved the red squirrel that visited us daily to collect walnuts that had freshly dropped from the trees. The cottage is easy driving to the great and famous towns and villages in the area and Mary told us which were the best markets around. Do try Le Gensake restaurant in nearby Gensac, we had 2 wonderful meals there. Enjoy!
Quiet & peaceful, a renovated farmhouse set in the midst of a working vineyard. Hosts Mary & John are the owners of Chateau La Tourbeille Bordeaux wines and we were the lucky guests to arrive the week of the 2014 harvest! We were given a "hands on" tour of the wine production which involved the mechanical harvesting, pressing and process involved in their vineyard along with a sample of two of the previously finished product.
La Petit Rouge has all the comforts of home, well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, great shower, spacious inside and out. This place sits high above the village of Pessac overlooking the Dordogne River with spectacular views.
We took many day trips (St Emilion, a wine lovers paradise with all the local shops, 12th Century Chateau in Duras, farmers market in Bergerac and other local hikes).
We easily could have stayed another week with so much to see and do in this beautiful area.
We had a nice time staying in the cottage over ten days with our baby. Very peaceful and beautiful surroundings, and the owners are very nice. We enjoyed the decently private yard with a view overlooking the nearby town and river, and made good use of the barbecue. The pool was great on those hot August days. A few small improvements would have made it perfect: would have been nice to have a high chair to feed the baby, we found the mattress a bit too firm for our taste, and a good cleaning of spider webs is in order. Overall we're happy to have stayed and would be happy to do so again.
In early June, my wife and I spent the most wonderful and relaxing week in the Gironde in a 300 year old cottage at La Maison de Petit Roque. The setting couldnât have been more idyllic; the cottage situated on a hilltop at La Tourbeille Vineyard, and overlooking the Dordogne river from the rear terrace. The cottage is fully equipped with a large kitchen, bathroom with shower, washing machine, living room and two bedrooms. Lots of open area around the cottage with two outside terraces for dining and enjoying the scenery. You couldnât ask for better hosts than John and Mary. Mary greeted us like long lost friends and was readily available to answer any questions or direct us to site-seeing, local dining, patisseries and farmers markets. Even though the cottage is located in a small village, you are still within an hour's drive to many sites, including Bordeaux, St. Emilion and Bergerac. We plan on returning to Petit Roque the next time we are in the Dordogne. What could be better than preparing a home cooked meal in your own cottage with ingredients that you purchased earlier from the local farmers market along with a bottle of fine wine from John and Mary's winery.
Beautiful cottage in a beautiful environment. The house is well equipped and the owner, Ms Sandifer, was warm and helpful (thank you, Mary). The best: a magnificent view with a small patio to enjoy it. A perfect French vacation!
This was a very comfortable apartment and had everything we needed. It is well maintained and enjoys a beautiful location overlooking the valley. It is very quiet located in the vineyard operated by John and Mary who were happy to share their wine making experiences with us. We used this as a base to explore the right bank of the Bordeaux area and areas east. John and Mary were wonderful hosts helping us in many ways but not intrusive. We hope to return.
Lovely house with everything you need for a comfortable and relaxing holiday. Great view from the patio which changed with different light and was great in the morning with mist clearing from the valley. John and Mary were super and made us feel very welcome.Lovely walks from the house. 36 species of bird seen in the garden and vinyard area. Every Blackcap and Pied Flycatcher seemed to have migrated through here. Brilliant holiday.
Perfect holiday, the gite is well off the road and not far from the farmhouse with a hedge and the pool in between. So it's private and quiet with lots of inside and outside space and loads of character. The pool is quite new, very clean and large. There are amazing views of the Dordogne river valley and Pessac village from the patio. The gite has everything you need and access to a large patio and a covered terrace. Very relaxing holiday, and a good location for leisure activities and the wine areas. Our hosts were very friendly and helpful, our bags were late arriving and our hosts took receipt of them for us, really nice people, Always available and never intrusive. Plus a free bottle of wine and home made jam of course.
Our weather was perfect also so nothing could have been better. We really enjoyed our time here. We stayed two weeks.
First time in France and we were so lucky to find this beautiful property where we spent an unforgettable week last summer.
The cottage is absolutely gorgeus, quiet and peaceful. Kids loved it and we all enjoyed lots. It is a perfect spot with stunning surroundings and lots of places to be visited around.
John and Mary are the perfect hosts, kind and always willing to help and give you the best hints..
We hope we will be back son..
The cottage is lovely, very well maintained, clean and has everything you need.
Mary and John were excellent hosts, providing us with great hints and tips around sight seeing and wine tastings. We were even supplied with vegetables from their garden and home made jam. What a treat! There is a huge lawn next to the house, so that is great for children to just run around and play.
We had an amazing stay at Le Petit Roque. The gite is very well equipped with everything one could need and with two terraces outside, one of which is covered, one can enjoy the beautiful surroundings whatever the weather.
The new double bed is 160cm which makes a huge difference to ones comfort and the bathroom has an excellent shower. Wifi works well so although the general ambiance is of rustic charm all the mod cons one needs are there. Mary was a brilliant hostess from the initial gift of a bottle of their wine to the final goodbye. She was not in the least intrusive but around if you needed anything.
This is on the edge of the Dordogne so the area is still very French and non touristy with the local restaurant at Flaujaques doing a splendid three course lunch for 11 euros. Lots to explore but if you want to veg out you could not wish to find a more authentic and comfortable gite.
It was one of my best stays in France. An old farmhause itself is gorgeus, It doesn't looks like rest house from outside, but very charmfull and easy living inside. Surroundings are wonderfull - small villages full of french living style, vineyards of merlot and semillon. Location, if you want to see most of Bordeaux greatest areas, perfect.Thank you very much, dear Marie, for splendid week, care and vine.I'm more than sure to come back.
We stayed at La Maison du Petit Roque for the second week of our French Wedding and Honeymoon extravaganza, and after the hustle and bustle of the excitement of the big family stay at a nearby chateau it was exactly what we were looking for for a romantic escape to the peace and quiet of the countryside!
The gite is basic, but perfectly comfortable and the owners, Mary and John, did everything possible to make us welcome and ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Their home is a 2min drive / 10 min walk away and they let us use their pool every afternoon. For families with small children, please note that the pool is quite deep, and that the at the cottage, whilst fairly large, wasn't completely fenced off at he time (though I believe there was a project to do so afterwards so please check with he owners) so supervision would be needed.
We also did some cycling and kayaking from the local village of Pessac, and ate at a couple of local restaurants - the Belvedere is well documented, but there are plenty of others and we found an amazing place with a âŹ12 set menu (unfortunately I've forgotten the name!)
Bergerac is an easy drive away, as is St Emilion and Bordeaux, and there are plenty of activities should you choose to seek them out - ever considered a balloon flight over St Emilion and the vineyards? Breathtaking!
We highly recommend this cottage, and will definitely be back!
In June, we spent the most wonderful week ever at La Petite Roque. It absolutely exceeded our expectations -- sunsets at 10:30 pm, market fresh meals on the terrace, an unsurpassed view, fantastic location for daytrips, a friendly farmer as our neighbor, and John and Mary as the perfect hosts. I had dreamt of having such a holiday and my dream became a reality. My husband and I cannot wait to return and have been telling our friends about it ever since. I almost don't want to give our little gite a five-star review as it's such a special find, but that would be disingenuous. So here it is -- a very enthusiastic 5-stars!
We had two good weeks in this property, everything is exactly as advertised. We found the break very peaceful and everyone very friendly. Mary and John were very accomodating and the ideal hosts. The property has a large covered area which we really made use of if it was wet or too hot site out.
Le Domaine du Petit Roque on the CĂŽte de La Tourbeille is a 100-acre property that has been in our family since the 1920's. The pastures are now used for raising grass fed cows (the vines benefit from this organic fertilizer ) and we are currently developing a large fruit orchard - John adores making home made jam. The guest cottage 'La Maison du Petit Roque' is set on the border of the vineyard, over looking the Dordogne River Valley.
When we walk the vineyard or the gardens here on this hilltop, we are always soothed by the calm atmosphere and transported by the wonderful views of the Dordogne River and Valley.
