I'll start with the positives. The property did offer what was listed, could sleep 5 with ease, one bathroom, and a stocked kitchen. The owner was responsive to my request for an early check in. The check in process was easy. It was close to downtown Petaluma. Some of the furniture was different from the pictures in the listing, but was in decent shape.
What you don't see in the listing is that there is a big sky light. So, although it sleeps 5, 3/5 would be rising with the sun. The bed in the loft was very squeaky, with just my very petite 6 year old on it.
The walls were incredibly thin. We heard people having conversations next door, as well as music playing. Our first morning I was woken up at 5:00 AM by someone's alarm going off next door.
The property seemed pretty clean upon first arriving. But once we got to taking showers, we noticed that there was dirt/dust along the edges of the shower stall that we didn't notice until we ran the water. There was quite a bit of hair on the shelf. There was one Oxi Clean bottle and it was nearly empty. There was a bottle of bleach, but no bucket, gloves, or spray bottle to use it with.
From day 1, we noticed the toilet wasn't flushing properly, but made it work with the decorative like plunger. On the 4th plunging event, we could not get the toilet to unplug. I messaged the owner and it took him several hours to get back to us. When he did respond, he said that the plunger we had was likely not good enough, and that his cleaner would come out and arrive in 20 minutes. It took well over an hour for her to arrive. (I sent my family ahead to me to a family gathering, then took an Uber there). All she did was use a sturdier plunger to solve the problem. She said that the plumbing in the entire building had been an ongoing problem. Between her saying that and the owner saying that the plunger was probably not strong enough it felt like the owner knew of an existing problem.
This was located in what was a warehouse like area. At night the parking lot did not have any lighting. The only light came from the porch lights of the 2 or 3 rental units on that side of the building. One night, someone tried to open our door. After I forcefully yelled at the person who was trying to get in. It sounded like it was a renter next door, but the lack of light and general area made the situation feel a lot worse than it probably was.
The dishwasher was old and really loud. The ice dispenser didn't work.
