We rarely get away for the weekend, so weâre particular about where we stayâand we couldnât have chosen better. This quiet, serene farmstead is just what we were looking for. The hosts are very welcoming and available if needed. The farmstead in its entirety feels beautifully lived-in, tucked away in steep hillsides with exposed boulders, pastures, old orchards, and forests - lots of room to explore, roam, and contemplate. The cottage was perfect, with everything we could want for our weekend escape. Highlights included a back porch overlooking old apple trees, grapevines, a few chickens, and birdwatching with morning coffee. And if we were lucky, the cat would bestow on us a brief visit. Clear directions lead you to a hike that starts right behind the cottage. We highly recommend a walk to the top and around the rim of the property for sweeping 360 degree mountain views, wildflowers, and plenty of birdwatching, ending in a pasture where two curious donkeys welcome you back. The property is a short drive to Lansing, an idyllic small town complete with a small local grocery store, coffee shop, weekend tailgate market, and a greenway that follows the river. If you can tear yourself away, other unique natural areas are close by, including Grayson Highlands, which offers high elevation forest hikes, and Appalachian balds. We wouldnât hesitate to recommend this place to friends.
