À propos de cet hébergement
Church Cottage, Burford, Cotswolds - dort 6 personnes dans 3 chambres
Church Cottage is a home full of character, quietly set on a peaceful lane next to Burford’s historic church. With warm Cotswold stone, a large fireplace and beams, the cottage has retained many original features that give it a real sense of historic charm.
Step inside and you’ll find a place full of personality, with vintage treasures and carefully chosen artwork throughout. The kitchen combines traditional features such as wooden worktops, a Belfast sink and an Everhot range cooker, with modern equipment to create a warm, country kitchen which you will enjoy using. In the sitting room, a wood-burning stove is set into the original brick fireplace, perfect for cosy evenings at home. French doors open onto the walled garden, letting in plenty of light and fresh air on warmer days. The dining room also looks out to the walled garden and has French doors to the raised rose terrace, ideal for relaxed meals with the scent of flowers drifting in. Upstairs, three charming bedrooms continue the cottage’s character, each styled with vintage furniture, soft linens, and thoughtful finishing touches.
You can move easily between the sitting room and dining room and the the charming, sheltered garden, which is a sun trap blooming with roses and flowering borders. Dine on the rose terrace with the church views beyond as the old clock bells ring in the hours. There are quiet spots to have your morning coffee and read a book. To the front is an off-road parking space, a rare benefit in this bustling town.
Ground Floor
Entrance hall and cloakroom
Step through the red front door into the entrance hall where you can hang up coats and put away walking boots. There is a cloakroom to one side in what was once the old privy with a basin and WC.
Kitchen
You will love cooking in this well-equipped kitchen with its Everhot range. The Belfast sink and oak wood worktops give the feel of a traditional cottage kitchen, but with everything you need hidden in cupboards below. There is a full range of plates, glasses, crockery and cooking utensils, with a Nespresso coffee machine, microwave, fridge, freezer, washing machine and a dishwasher.
Sitting Room
This cosy room is the heart of the cottage, with painted original wooden floorboards and beams, cheerful floral curtains and comfortable seating including two armchairs and a three-seater sofa. An inviting wood-burning stove sits within the original brick fireplace, framed by handmade oak bookcases. This is the perfect place to curl up next to the fire with a book in hand or settle down to watch the smart television, which can be found in the antique pine corner cupboard, along with a DVD player, Bluetooth speaker and a selection of games and puzzles. On warmer evenings, open the French doors to step out into the garden after an evening cup of tea to take in the wonderful views.
Dining Room
The six-seater antique dining table ensures plenty of space, and double doors lead from here out to the secluded rose terrace, where alfresco meals can also be enjoyed. Set the table with the pretty early 20th century tableware for meals together and enjoy the stunning views over the church and rose terrace. This is a delightful room where you can linger over long and leisurely meals.
First Floor
Bedroom One
The master bedroom has the best view, looking across the rose terrace to the church beyond. Open your windows on a summer evening to let in the floral breeze before snuggling into the king-size bed. Unpack into the two chests of drawers and spend a lazy morning reading a good book, perhaps one you brought with you or one from the selection in the sitting room.
En-suite
The en-suite shower room has a walk-in shower, WC, wash basin and handy cubby holes for storage.
Bedroom Two
Set up as a children’s bedroom, this room is sure to enchant all ages. There is a pair of comfortable full-size single beds with a large vintage pine chest of drawers between them. A captivating illustration of a rabbit family hangs above, guaranteed to delight young guests, while the original 1930s decorative fireplace and patchwork curtains all add to the appeal of this cheerful twin room.
Bedroom Three
With its soft, pastel-coloured decor and comfortable double bed, it’s hard not to feel cosy in this charming bedroom beneath the sloping ceiling. There’s plenty of space and storage, with two bedside tables with drawers, a lovely vintage pine chest of drawers, and a small hanging cupboard. This bedroom offers good views over the gardens and rooftops of old Burford.
Bathroom
The vintage aesthetic continues in the bathroom with an original 1930’s bathtub, hand-held shower, WC and basin.
Outside
Hidden behind Church Cottage is the most wonderful garden offering privacy and seclusion, a rarity for Burford cottages. The garden is in two parts, the walled garden with a lawn for children to play on, shrubs and flowering borders and the rose terrace, with gorgeous roses climbing up the sheltering walls and an apple tree as old as the house, covered with a climbing clematis. This is an idyllic place to relax, read, or listen to the church bells striking the hours. On the rose terrace outside the dining room there is a wooden dining table and six chairs. Take meals here or bring a BBQ to make the most of your time outside.
