A true oasis away from the crowds but close to everything.
Stunning cliff top cottage, private pool, insane views. The morning sunrise and moon at night, with fireflies - very very tough to beat Turtle cottage. Pat is lovely and very attentive. The right amount of care and privacy by this property owner. Weâve stayed in numerous cottage rentals in the Caribbean and this takes the cake. Thanks Pat!Note- car rental mandatory.
If you are looking for the opportunity to truly relax during your stay in Barbados, this is the place. Turtle Cottage has the unique quality that makes you want to just hang out and not be in a rush to start your day. Every morning we just wanted to get up to see the sunrise over the ocean, take a morning swing in the pool, or just wait for Tom the ginger cat to pay us a visit while hanging out enjoying a coffee. This was the perfect place for us⊠very rustic with a lot of island personality in St. Philip. Pat was not there to meet us but Clare was and did an amazing job showing us around. We would not hesitate to come back to this amazing spot. What we liked a lot about Turtle CottageâŠThe privacyThe morning sunriseThe views over the oceanThe poolThe tortoises and Tom the CatThe openness of the placeThe simple quality of the placeThe verandaThe gardensVery close to the airportVery close to CuttersVery close to SunLife Juice & Smoothie SpotVery close to some amazing beachesWhat we liked as well BUT what you might not like as much:No AC in the bedroomsNo glass in the windowsThe absolute need of a carTom the cat
This place literally blew our minds. Its beautifully decorated, the views are insane. The host is so lovely. Cant fault it. You do need a car though, however it really isnt far away from anything so dont let that put you off. So so glad we stayed here, will definatily be back!
We had an amazing stay at Patâs cottage!! Such a wonderful host! Gorgeous cottage with breathtaking views! So relaxing listening to the ocean waves. We also loved watching the tortoises around the cottage. Didnât want to leave and already talking about when we want to come back! Thank you so much Pat for such a wonderful stay!
We loved our stay. The views and place were both breathtaking. Our hosts, Carol and Tony were so gracious and helpful. Plus, we were kept company by the beautiful wildlife- turtles, kitty cats, and tons of lovely birds. The outdoor areas including the pool were also lovely. We didnt rent a vehicle (not quite comfortable driving on the other side of the road) but we found 2 incredible drivers for touring us around the island. A favorite was Carlyle Bay. At any rate, our overall experience was perfect.
Lovely little well appointed cottage with stunning ocean views. Pretty gardens with an abundance of turtles to keep you entertained!
The host, Pat, is a force of nature and her sole purpose is to ensure her guests have the best holiday experience they can. She is a mine of useful information about things to see and places to go including excellent restaurant suggestions.
We would return to this lovely island and gorgeous cottage in a heartbeat, hopefully see you again Pat!!
Bright, airy, eclectic decor. Stunning views from the very large deck. A lovely cottage with a good sized, private pool for your use only. Beautiful gardens with 17 tortoises, hummingbirds and more. A very unique place to be. Pat was always available and a pleasure to know. Thereâs a Trimart grocery store within a 15 minute walk and a Stoutes car rental nearby.
Hard to tear yourself away from this delightful bungalow. The perch is perfectly situated to fully take in the ocean and the pool is surrounded by stunning local plant life. Owner Pat is super helpful and right next door to provide advice on near-by activities and restaurants. We even got to watch a spraying display from a slow-moving pod of whales.
This is for those seeking a bit more authentic vacation rather than a high-end luxury vacation. One watch-out, there is no glass in the windows, so you may have mosquitoes, altho Pat had a variety of methods to deal with them.
We were not equipped for the mosquitos. I believe there was more rain than typical and we couldnât get away from them.
We are not a tiny couple and we are not a huge couple. We struggled with the bed and actually dreaded going to sleep at night. If the net laid on your skin at all you would be bitten to death. We couldnât get away from each other as the bed is small and we were also quite warm. There are however, two beds.
Just wanted everyone to take the mosquitos seriously. It will ruin your trip. Breathtaking views and an absolutely wonderful pool! We certainly enjoyed our English friends Tony and Carol!
We had an excellent time in Pat's Turtle Cottage. It's such a beautiful place. It's no problem that the cottage doesn't have air condition because there's always a nice breeze coming in. The beds have mosquito nets so you can sleep with open windows while listening to the waves and the palm trees in the wind. Pat is a wonderful host. She lives next door and is there to help with any problems.
You should have a car though because the cottage is in a residential area. There is no bus stop near the house. At Six Roads, just a couple of minutes north, there is a big supermarket, a bank etc.
The beds are a little short if you're tall and the one in the second bedroom was rather creaky. Some kitchen appliances were not totally clean but that didn't detract from the great time we had there. My advice: Book it if you have the chance.
If Turtle Cottage is available for your dates- Donât Hesitate to Book! If the cottage is not available - Change your dates! Yes, it is that good , the panoramic view of the ocean - different hues of blue, turquoise and purple, stretching away until the far horizon- and the immediacy of the waves crashing into the cliffs below, make this a unique experience, a treat for the senses! Then thereâs the terrace, shaded and spacious and overlooking the ocean, where we relaxed, played cards, had breakfast and dined on occasions. Waking up to the sunrise and the view from the bedroom is a truly memorable experience! We had sole use of the pool in the really pretty and well cared for garden, surrounded by varieties of cactus and coconut palms, their fan like branches blowing in the breeze. Then thereâs Pat the host, nothing is too much trouble for her, lifts willingly offered on our anniversary and last night to fine dining restaurants of our choice - Champers and Le Shack were our favourites- a visit for dinner to her friendâs restaurant by the ocean was very enjoyable. And lastly⊠the turtles, 17 of them, friendly and easy to pat, feed and watch ! A truly memorable stay and we are really sad to leave, Thanks Pat and Turtle Cottage for making our stay so immensely enjoyable - really hope we can visit again !
Beautiful property but poor communication with owner
Turtle cottage is in an amazing location on top of a cliff and the cottage itself was just beautiful in a funky boho wayâŠ.like a little art gallery. We loved the turtles and that the owner is involved in animal rescue.
The couple who were staying at the owners house and overseeing things (Carol and Tony) were wonderful and couldnât have been more helpful.
HoweverâŠ. From the beginning of booking the cottage Pat the owner was very sporadic with her responses, half the time just not responding at all. We were a bit concerned and as we were already on the island we tried to find the place to make sure it existed. Well the VRBO map sent us to an empty lot! That evening I spent lots of time with VRBO support as I was sure we had been scammed, especially in light of the lack of response from owner.
By the next day VRBO had been able to contact the owner (visiting the UK) and she did communicate with me and gave me contact details of the people staying and looking after the place. We were able to sort out the location and I was relieved to find the place did actually exist!
Between the poor communication from owner and the incorrect map co-ordinates from VRBO the lead up to our stay here was very stressful!
In all I would recommend this place but be prepared for some potential difficulties with communication and finding it!
We recently traveled to Barbados to escape New York City and booked turtle cottage, having no experience with the island at all.
What a great choice we made. Pat could not have been a more accommodating host, giving plenty of great advice for or time in Barbados. She even welcomed us at 4am when our flight arrived and took us to the grocery store as our car didn't arrive until later in the morning. Pat also made great recommendations for things to do on the island, including arranging a catamaran cruise for us.
As for the cottage itself, the photos on the internet can't accurately depict how breathtaking the views are. The cottage was beautifully decorated, comfortable and clean with every appliance and supply you could need for a great vacation, including plenty of fans to keep things breezy at night.
The pool was a short walk through the immaculate garden and was a lovely way to cool off in the warm Bajan sun. The turtles were also quite a treat to spot in the late afternoon.
Getting to the house from the main road was simple (despite being a New Yorker who hasn't driven in years, much less on the left side of the road) and less than 15 minutes from the airport. The grocery store, Emerald City is a 5-7 minute drive and Foul Bay Beach (incredible for running, not good for swimming) is 2 minutes by car and 5 on foot.
Must see: St Nicholas Abbey, Oistins Fish Fry, Animal Flower Caves, East coast road.
Thanks again, Pat for an incredible vacation! If we return to Barbados, we definitely hope to stay with you again!
Turtle Cottage in Barbados was a true hidden Gem. We had great communication with the owner (Pat) from beginning to end. Even though our flight didn't arrive until 3:00 am she was still there. She was even there when we departed. Great Hostess. The cottage is perfect for two people looking to just relax and take in the beautiful ocean/cliff view. Even though the cottage did not have any AC, the breeze kept it comfortable. The surrounding gardens and pool area is well maintained. Enjoyed seeing Pat's turtles walking around. The cottage is well stocked with kitchen needs. The closet grocery store is about a 15 min walk, however, it's very small and limited. If you are looking for a place just to Chill then Turtle Cottage is for you.
The Turtle Cottage was everything we had expected and more. The view to the Atlantic Ocean is really stunning. We went around the island and couldn't find better. The cottage, the pool area and the garden are very private and there is no disturbance from anywhere. The garden is really well designed and beautiful. Pat is the best host you can hope for. She is really helpful and communicative. You must have a car as there are not many shops nearby.
Youâll never forget the beautiful setting overlooking the ocean surrounded by a beautiful tropical cactus garden complete with cats and tortoises. Plenty of space for 1-4 people. The pool garden is ideal for a cooling plunge and relaxing environment to read or chat. Pat was very welcoming and helpful throughout the week and even took us out to a trivia night at the local craft brewery. Definitely would love to come back for a peaceful getaway!
Would give this property a solid 4 rating. Thereâs a fantastic view out over the sea from atop a 70 foot cliff. The double beds could have been more comfortable which would have made it a five star. The host, Pat, was happy and very helpful. This was our first visit to Barbados and we found the Bajans a lovely people.
The house had breathtaking views just like the pictures. We had an amazing time and loved everything about the house. Pat was super helpful with letting us follow her to certain stores and showed us a nearby beach so we knew how to get around and the first night she brought us to this awesome restaurant very close by to eat. Everything was great and we were sad to leave. Even on hot nights the breeze made it very comfortable. (Sorry for not saying goodbye, we were not sure if you were awake).
You just canât beat the sound of waves crashing against the coast of Barbados. We never tired of that sound as we enjoyed hanging out on the deck of Patriciaâs lovely cottage. Thank you for a relaxing holiday!
We had a lovely stay at Turtle Cottage. The view over the ocean from the terrace is a definite WOW. The house is Caribbean in style but is comfortable and very well equipped as a home away from home, enabling you to cater for yourselves easily. The pool is great and a welcome respite from the heat.
Pat is a fantastic host, and goes out of her way to make you comfortable and make you feel very welcome. We rented a car and Pat sorted out all the arrangements. A car is definitely recommended to get around the island and go shopping to supermarkets and the great fish market at Oistins.
We had a wonderful time at Turtle Cottage, and could not recommend it more. There is ample space for 2 adults and 2 children (ages 10 and 6 years), with all the amenities one would want.
The views are spectacular, and the swimming pool absolutely wonderful.
Pat was a super host, and all of her recommendations were things to do and see on the island were fantastic. She made us feel very much at home, and even booked restaurants for us and catamaran trips, which we very much enjoyed.
We hope to come back soon!
