Swallows Byre was a wonderful base for us to explore Swaledale. Great views, access to walking opportunities, just the right size for our two week stay.
Excellent location with lovely views over Swaledale and surrounded by fields and sheep.
Smaller than expected but warm and comfortable with good views from the bedroom and upstairs living room. Bathroom needs to have a proper shower over the bath to make it suitable for everyone. Kitchen needs a complete refit to create work surface and a larger fridge/freezer.
This is a great place to stay for a remote quiet break. The cottage is really perfect, moderne in the equipment, traditional in the decoration. Outdoors space, a field with pheasant and rabbits to look at. It's really relaxing.
My husband and I spent a short break in this lovely cottage. It has lovely furnishings and all the home comforts you need, plus it was spotlessly clean. The bed was also extremely comfortable and consequently we both slept extremely well for our stay.
In this quaint upside down cottage, there are fantastic views from the lounge french windows, which open out onto a lovely large balcony where you can sit and watch the local wild life.
The bedroom also opens out onto a pretty garden, this too overlooking beautiful countryside.
There are lots of great walks, some which can be accessed straight out of the garden gate into the fields which lead to the river close by.
All in all a thoroughly relaxing great break. We definitely intend to visit again.
Dorothy, the owner, was also very prompt in answering enquiries, and friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend this cottage to others.
We had a wonderful, peaceful week in Swaledale, with Swallows Byre as a perfect base for walks and excursions. The cottage and its beautiful garden are delightful and well equipped - though the wi-fi is very, very slow, which might be problematic for some people. The phone signal is poor too. For us, however, this added to the truly restful nature of the place. There are lots of great walks in the vicinity, birds to watch, tea shops and pubs not far away. And the scenery is magnificent. We have been to the Dales several times and this was our best experience. Thank you, Dorothy.

Lovely welcome from owner. Clean well equipped cottage with stunning views.
Great short break. Hope to be back possibly with more family with intake cottage next year with longer days!
A delightful, comfortable and well equipped cocottage
This was our second time in this lovely cottage and it was just as good as we remembered. We love everything about it and wouldn't change a thing . The lounge area is cosy and comfortable and feels like a real home from home and the view from the bedroom window is a joy to wake up to . We are already looking forward to fitting in another trip as soon as we can manage it .
We couldn't have asked for a prettier location or cottage. Comfortably furnished, well equipped and with stunning views across the valley. Perfect country retreat to get away from it all. Tried out several local pubs who all served great food. Nearest shop & bakery is about 5 miles away in Reeth, so worth taking essential provisions (wine, beer, snacks & perhaps breakfast!) to relax and enjoy the view on your first evening; no better way to start a holiday! There are a number of walks that you can start from the Byre. It's worth visiting the Tourist Information Office in Reeth for local walking maps - there's a lot to do! We would certainly recommend as a wonderful base to explore the Yorkshire Dales. So much to see and do.
Had a really enjoyable stay at Swallow Byre. Dorothy met me at the property on my arrival and was very helpful and friendly. The place was ideally situated for a week of walking, with a short walk across the fields down to the river and then walking in either direction from there leading to some great walks. I only used the car once throughout my stay and that was only because it was raining! The cottage itself was very well kept and comfortable. Although I ate in I can certainly recommend the Kings head in Gunnerside and the Black Bull in Reeth for a drink. Would definitely stay there again if I was in the area.
This was our Second stay at the beautiful Swallows Byre . We love everything about it! Equipped to a high standard . More than a holiday cottage it has so many personal touches of luxury it feels like home. Spotless with attention to detail. The antique double bed is the most comfortable weve ever slept in! The kitchen is small but we manage to bake bread and cook wonderful meals . The bathroom has a freestanding bath with soft fluffy towels and has a super warm heated towel rail. Underfloor heating too keeps everything cozy. Its an upside down cottage with the sitting room upstairs stunning views over the valley to the river. I cannot stress the beautiful views enough from upstairs as well as down where you lie in bed watching the river tumble over the rocks . The sitting room has a balcony and is brilliant for bird watching. The log burner is a real treat in the winter evenings. We love it here and enjoyed staying in intake cottage too. The outside space is wonderful too! The summer house being one of our favorite places to do the crossword . Dorothy is a fantastic host making sure your stay is a comfortable one . We have already booked our 3rd visit in a year and are about to book a week for our son and daughter in laws anniversary gift too. There is so much choice of places to go nearby ... Thats if you can bear to leave Swallows Byre!
