Lisa and Mike were EXCEPTIONAL hosts. They communicated with us thoroughly, werenât invasive to us, left us alone but were there at any beckoning call. The property and the neighborhood are GORGEOUS GORGEOUS GORGEOUS. I canât get over the beauty of the area and the proximity to Bath and Bristol cannot be understated. Hearing the geese with their morning flybys and you can really feel the ghosts of historyâs past, all around you. The sheep in the distance. Right down the hill from historic battlefields. We need some peace and serenity from the world have given us so far this year and the this property DELIVERED. I canât wait to return every time we come back to this beautiful country.Thank you Lisa!
Disappointing as our private stay didn't end up feeling private
We arrived to a nice clean cottage and friendly owner. Long story short the owner popped by rather frequently which wasn't ideal as we wanted privacy. The owners also booked for some maintenance to be done by the pool on our last day which meant we didn't have privacy by the pool for nearly 6 hours that day. My son is autistic and I had asked if the space was private due to his anxiety around new people and had been assured that nobody else would be there. When I expressed disappointment to the owner he said that my son should just have used the pool anyway, totally dismissing his disability and needs.Over the days we stayed we noticed several things that showed that this cottage wasn't the luxury we paid for.Tatty and old stuff. Tennis rackets, pans, hot tub cushions. We ended up leaving early on the last day as we felt uncomfortable and didn't want to see the owners again. I eventually found an email contact for VRBO but they didn't reply to the email. After leaving a trustpilot review,VRBO contacted me. I spent a week going back and forth with VRBO saying there was nothing they could do about our horrible experience but eventually after mentioning trading standards they offered me a small refund as did the owners. It was a shame that nobody offered this before as they knew we were upset at the time and that I had to send a week of emails to get anywhere. I have photos that won't upload
Lovely property with everything we needed. The private swimming pool and tennis court were great and kept us busy all week. We didnât use the kitchen much as we spent our evenings outside on the decking cooking on the barbecue.
There are walks and bike rides from the property and Bath and Bristol are short drives away.
Lisa and Mike were great hosts and very helpful both when we were there and also when responding to messages.
A beautiful part of the world and the property provides a luxurious base to explore it from.
The only words I have for this property is absolutely fabulous! Accommodation, facilities, hosts, views, just everything! Would absolutely recommend! The Old Crown pub was a mile away, with amazing food and hospitality, a stones throw from Bath this accommodation has it all tranquility and views to die for! Thank you Lisa and Mike we will be back!!
We loved our few days here. The converted barn was wonderfully decorated making it a really enjoyable experience for us. We really enjoyed lighting the log fire in the evenings as well as using the hot tub which was a great way to relax after spending a day in Bath. Thank you Lisa.
Fantastic place with everything you could need and more. The small details and finishing touches were brilliant. Beautiful location and ideal for visiting Bath and the surrounding countryside. The hosts were brilliant and couldn't do enough for us. The property is unique and perfectly sized with the hot tub and pool a real treat!
Really enjoyed our stay here. The location is stunning, the accommodation delightful and the owners were very friendly and helpful. Lots of little extra touches, such as homemade cakes (delicious!), chocolates, a bottle of wine in the fridge and flowers in the lounge and bedrooms. Spotlessly clean, including the hot tub. Just a short and easy drive to Bath. Thank you so much.
Fantastic hosts, excellent communication and response to queries. Beautiful boutique style decor- exceptional location to escape- This would be paradise if we had good weather as caters for all
Highly recommend âïžâïžâïžâïžâïž
Quiet setting, well kept cottage with great facilities.
Able to walk from the door but teens able to access Bath for shopping!
Hot tub a special treat.
Many thanks to the hosts, we'll be back đ
We stayed here for a weekend to celebrate a friends birthday. This property is just amazing. As you walk in you're greeted with the most incredible smell! Lisa has paid a lot of attention to finer details and there is a real feel of luxury. The views are just stunning. The weather was fantastic and we made good use of the pool and hot tub which were both perfect. We just didnt want to leave. Thank you for a perfect weekend.
We spent 5 days at the Stables for our Ruby Wedding Anniversary and had a fabulous time. The Stables is gorgeously decorated and luxuriously appointed. The log burner and the hot tub were a great delight. The cakes , wine, flowers and chocolates on arrival were also much appreciated. One small point however the decking outside is getting a little old and was slippery when wet.
Very well appointed. All high end fittings.
Unless you are extremely active and have good hiking boots you need a car to drive to local pubs. They are worth the visit, especially the Swan. About a 3-4 mile drive into Bath. Property is down a short unmade road after a 0.5 mile drive up a steep single lane road. Only real disappointment about property was lack of a tumbler dryer which made laundry difficult on rainy days. Very poor internet connection which is just down to location. We loved our stay and rated 5 stars. Thank you for flowers, wine and chocolates on arrival.
We (4 of us) had a great week in this lovely property with all its amenities, especially the pool! Unfortunately there were some problems which has prevented a 5 star review. As noted by a previous reviewer, we found that the dishwasher wasnât effective so we had to remove the arms and unblock the water jets to return it to health. The tumble dryer was out of order (still? or again?) and combined with a clothes airer that couldnât be opened-up there was nowhere to hang swimming towels and drippy costumes. Having reported this on day 2, it didnât get addressed until day 5 of our 7-day stay. The fridge in the âfully equippedâ fridge was far too small, and with broken and missing shelves was totally inadequate. Having another fridge/freezer in the outhouse was tiresome and if the weather had been wet would have been dreadful to use. And various other things that were less than âluxuriousâ. We got the feeling the owners have taken their eyes off the ball a little.
I feel I have to comment and convey our deep disappointment at the manner and way we were forced to end our stay at The Stables.
Although our break was good - mainly due to the location and excellent weather (26-28th May 2021), it was marred and let down by the abrupt and quite frankly, rude ending.
Firstly, a late check in at 4pm coupled with an unusually early check out at 10am is not conducive to a relaxed departure given the list of cleaning expectations formally set out in the âmanualâ. This would be bad enough if it wasnât for a loud knock on the door at 9.58am to be greeted by a stern face and very abrupt and humourless tone and expression informing me I was âmoving out todayâ. Having been up since 6am preparing and tidying for our departure and check out, I did not need reminding. Lisa then sat outside the door in her car before coming straight into the cottage with all the sheets at 10.01am which made us feel quite awkward. If we were given the opportunity to say we would be gone in another 5 minutes, we would have locked up and sent a notifying text as intended and outlined in the manual. Iâm pretty sure that a guest should be given a 5 minute leeway while packing the car like we were after our 42 hr stay.
It was unnecessary and not at all called for, given the 6hr effective turn around time (10am-4pm) for an already very clean and tidy cottage with only two towels used, only one of the two beds to remake, a stacked dishwasher and a clean kitchen and fire area.
My partner Victoria, who had spent months booking and reorganising the booking due to pool access dates, as it was a surprise birthday trip for me. When we arrived to a fine day and the next day was 22 degrees and sunny all day, we were told quite bluntly that the pool was out of commission due to cold weather and the cover was simply left on with no formal apology offered. However, given the importance of the pool to the booking, it also would have been correct and professional to notify us ahead of arrival or at least upon arrival.
To our mind, the front of house is equally as important to the aesthetics and amenities of the property to ensure a relaxed and enjoyable stay for all your paying guests. As the homeowner, if you no longer possess the enthusiasm required to welcome and exit your guests satisfactorily, then we would suggest you hire a cleaner for the 1-2hrs required and remove yourself from the clear burden of the face-to-face interaction.

We stayed here for four nights with our two over 18 year old sons and our two dogs. Had a brilliant time ! My husband and sons loved the tennis court and we all loved the hot tub. Didnât use the car at all. You can walk cross country to the nearest Tesco on the outskirts of bath ( around 4 miles). Lots of walks from the door. Barn is cosy and beautiful and very private . Hosts very friendly but respectful of your privacy.
We went to Bath for a few days and stayed at the Barn. Lisa could not have done enough to make us feel comfortable. The attention to detail was lovely, from fresh flowers, a well-stocked house and very clean. We had two labs with us and they were safe and made to feel very welcome. We didn't use the pool as it was too cold due to the recent rains but made good use of the tennis court and hot tub. Thank you Lisa and Mike for everything.
Absolutely perfect for what we needed and couldnât fault the property in any way , looking forward to returning in the Summer months.

Superb long barn with beautiful views, Lisa has exceptional taste with the decor of her holiday let. No corners have been cut and luxury and tranquility were both experienced in our stay
We will be back!
We stayed for 3 nights with our teen girls and dog. Fantastic facilities, hot tub a massive plus and everything you need is there. Lovely walks and pubs also very close to Bath. Would love to come back again!
