We had a lovely stay at Caroline's home and found the location to be very convenient. The check in was easy and the cottage was ready for relaxation and/or sleep on arrival. Information was provided via email and written when we arrived..
A lovely property in a nice quiet area of Swanage, not too far from the centre. Enjoyed staying in a cottage for the first time and bringing my baby son for his first visit to Swanage. The cottage has a lovely kitchen, bathroom and outside seating area to enjoy a morning coffee. Probably not suitable if you have mobility issues due to steep steps to the middle floor and master bedroom on the top floor. The cottage is nicely decorated and extremely clean and tidy, with all the amenities you would need. If making use of the travel cot, make sure to bring bedding and a mattress as this wasn't provided. This wasn't too much of an issue though and we made do. Our little boy seemed to love his first UK staycation. Would very much recommend this property and would stop here again.
Property is well described and well kitted out with everything you need. The bathroom does suffer with condensation issues and parking outside the property is a lottery so once parked we didnât use the car all week and used the very good bus service instead to get around. Not sure weâd visit Swanage again as not our type of holiday destination but would definitely go back to surrounding areas
The cottage was lovely and comfortable, with an outside sitting area which was well used.
The cottage was lovely and clean and had a rustic charm which was lovely, when we arrived towels were laid out on the double bed and the beds are extremely comfortable . The bedrooms are very spacious with plenty of hangers and wardrobes and hanging rails.
The cottage is conveniently located to all amenities' within an 8 minute walk.
The black swan serves amazing meals although you do need to book in advance, there is an Italian restaurant which serves good food, although limited choice. Convenience stores are available within the town and one close to the cottage.
We would definitely stay at the cottage again and Caroline supplied all the information prior to our stay, as well as being friendly, extremely helpful and courteous.
Thankyou so much Caroline for providing us with such a lovely base which helped to make our holiday so relaxing, enjoyable and being able to explore Swanage, surrounding areas and the wonderful beaches.
Very clean, comfortable beds, quality bedding and towels.
The stairs are a bit of a challenge!âŠâŠwe live in a bungalow so it was quite a workoutâŠâŠ
Rumpus cottage is perfectly located to the centre of town and to the coastal path and beaches. There are also some charming, dog friendly restaurants, often tucked away in side streets, such as The Old Stables, alongside cafes serving homemade cakes and bread.
The cottage is quaintly furnished and accurately described by Vrbo ; the booking process is efficient and we always managed to park outside, on the private road. The owner provided her contact number so she would be available if needed, but otherwise gave us space to get on with our holiday. The only aspect that was slightly disappointing was the âoutside areaâ. It is always in the shade and the old table and chairs are somewhat uninviting. Moreover, it is not fully enclosed, as we discovered within the first few minutes of arrival when the dog escaped at the back and turned up on the road in front of the garden. We managed to cobble together a makeshift fence, but a small gate of some kind would be perfect. All-in-all the cottage lived up to expectations and Swanage is an excellent place for visiting so many wonderful places, including Corfe Castle (by steam train); Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door; Thomas Hardyâs birthplace and his house, Max Gate. We didnât have time to visit other National Trust places such as Brownsea Island or to try out the ferry to Poole, but we had a super week in Swanage, nonetheless.
I stayed here in May with my 2 children. Caroline was extremely helpful and even contacted me to make sure I was aware of the steep stairs in the property before I made payment.
We visit Swanage every year and the cottage is in an ideal location, just outside the noise but only a 10 minute walk to the beach and town.
The property is small but manageable, if your planning on cooking most nights the kitchen will be a challenge space wise, but it's stocked with everything you need. The garden isn't really a garden, more a spacious alleyway, outside space is difficult to come by in Swanage so it was still lovely to be able to sit outside. My only complaint would be that there is no where to dry your clothes, so it seems pointless having a washing machine. Despite this I would definitely stay here again. Caroline was easy to contact and sent a lovely message after I returned home. Thank you for letting us stay!
The property is small, but very comfortable. No trouble parking outside and the location was quiet. The kitchen is very small but well equipped, but you are a short walk from the town and services. A good base for walking the coast. An enjoyable week.
Disappointed that the website did not mention the very steep stairs leading to the top double bedroom, which made safe access impossible for the elderly (or for anyone with mobility issues). Also the external "courtyard" was merely part of a common rear access alleyway for the cottages. The very small kitchen and dining area really precluded self catering, apart from breakfast. Swanage itself was lovely though!
Perfect place for a short stay and handy for walking to the centre and the beach. The cottage is well-equipped with everything you might need. Good linen and towels provided. A few problems: the front door double locked itself from the inside (had to exit through the back door to unlock it from the front); the bath tap dripped constantly; no corkscrew; mattress in the master bedroom has seen better days. No parking was available outside on two nights. Would stay again.
We had a lovely relaxing holiday. The cottage was a clever combination of original features and modern conveniences. The location was excellent in a quiet cul-de-sac within easy walking distance of the town centre and the sea. The landlady was very helpful and friendly and genuinely wanted us to enjoy our stay.
The cottage was a bit quirky but in a good way.
It was in an excellent location and in a quiet road. We had all the amenities close at hand and we were far enough away not to be disturbed but close enough to enjoy Swanage town ,the beach and the little harbour.
The cottage was a lovely base and we managed to park outside without any problems.
We did not use our car very much as most things were within walking distance.
The cottage was very welcoming and had everything we needed.
We cooked a couple of times, ate out a few times, used the washing machine as well, without any problems.
The only thing that was missing was a washing line and maybe a change of towels , as we were staying there for a whole week.
Caroline communicated with us through SMS ans she was wonderful and helpful.
She made sure that we arrived safely and also secured the parking spot outside the cottage for us. This was because a Folk festival was on at the time and she wanted to make sure that we parked outside the cottage.
We never had a problem at all and Caroline made sure that we were comfortable and to ask if we needed anything.
We would definitely like to stay here again.
If you want a traditional quaint cottage this is it.The location is about a 10 to 15 minute walk to Swanage shops, beach and pubs. I feel it should be mentioned that the bathroom is on the ground floor as this may be difficult for people with mobility issues, also the stairs to the bedroom on the third floor are a little steep and could be quite precarious. The shower was fantastic though. Thank you to the owner for the nice bottle of bubbly left in the fridge, this was a nice touch as we were celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary. It was also very nice to feel you were in a residential part of Swanage & I liked the Alice in wonderland theme, it made our stay quite magical
Gorgeous week in sunny swanage with a perfect stay at the cottage. The outdoor space really adds to the experience and the place was spotless and really well kept. Definitely coming back next year!
Thank you.
Small and compact cottage in ideal spot to explore Swanage
Cottage was very clean and well equipped. Parking was a challenge but not impossible to get a place in the road. Stairs were steep but overall cosy property and very accessible to the town and coastal walks. Short walk to excellent places to eat eg Black Swan and Castaways.
The property was a charming cottage, but on 3 floors which we knew at the outset, however, as our joint ages total 157 the stairs were the tricky part,. Whist we never had the need to go to the toilet in the night, had this been necessary it would have been a problem as the stairs are very steep . Parking could be a problem if you are not too good at reversing into a restricted place, fortunately the next door neighbour was helpful and no problem was experienced.. The weather - blue skies and sunshine every day ,the views on walks were beautiful with a meditterranean blue sea.
Property is only a 10/15 minute walk to the town and seafront.
It is on three levels and the stairs are a bit steep so may not suit anyone who has difficulty with stairs. All the things you need for a comfortable stay are there and it is very cosy.
A Grade II listed 17th Century compact cottage with unique charm and original features especially the beams in the master bedroom.
The cottage dates back to the Georgian period and retains many original features. The staircase to the upper floor is steeper than modern homes and in keeping with the period.
It is situated in the oldest part of Swanage within walking distance to local amenities, minutes to the town centre and seafront.
