Beautiful property, ideal for a peaceful idyllic stay. The property feels remote but is actually within really easy distance of the pleasant village of St Pardoux la Riviere which has a couple of restaurants and a well stocked supermarket.
Lots to see and do in the surrounding areas and we could easily have spent longer in this part of Perigord.
Beautiful Gite clean and very welcoming the host were friendly and helpful in getting us settled in . Nothing was to much bother if we needed help. Peaceful surroundings and lovely garden to relax in . Would highly recommend the beautiful Gite
We spent two weeks in this exceptional property and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. The gite exudes exceptional character and has a rustic feel which combines with all modern living requirements. It has been designed and renovated with great attention to detail and incorporates a lot of what can only be described as "great thoughts!" The location is also ideal for anyone who is looking for an extremely relaxing and quiet break well away from the normal "tourist" bustle as it sits on an elevated site in beautiful countryside with commanding views across open countryside. It has the added attraction of allowing exposure to lots of wildlife which can either be encountered by walking on any of the adjacent country walks through natural woodland or simply observing the small wild deer which emerge from the adjacent woodland. It is also very close to the lovely town of Saint Pardoux La Riviere and trips to the village of Saint Jean de Cole and the town of Brantome are highly recommended. We would have absolutely no hesitation at all in recommending this property to anyone who is looking for rustic charm, simply wants to "listen to the silence!" and experience French rural life.
The Gite delivered exactly what we wanted, a comfortable stay in a peaceful rural setting. Very well equipped and very comfortable. Our hosts made us very welcome.
We felt very happy as if we were in our own little Paradise.
Every day we had sunny weather; we could choose on wich terrace we would like to sit and enjoy the beautiful and peacefull surrounding.
We had everything we needed in the cottage and we
ate on one of the terraces every day, had a barbecue with a glass of wine, and mostly rested, read, and enjoyed!
Adrian makes beautiful baskets from their own cultivated willow branches. We bought a garden basket as a souvenir and as a reminder of this wonderful holiday!
As soon as we arrived we knew that we had made a great choice. I remarked to Ruth that the photographs did not do it justice, beautiful and peaceful.
The hosts were attentive but certainly not invasive. This was the holiday that we really needed and we have fond memories already. I would recommend this to all of our friends, will we be back, you bet.
Thank you Ruth and Adrian, best wishes, Alex and Hayley.
Absolut empfehlenswert!
Adrian and I ran our willow basket making business in England since 1985. We moved to France in 2013 to semi retire, still growing our willows and selling our baskets but hopefully working a bit less. (well that was the plan!!) Since moving here I have concentrated on our organic garden and the gite. Adrian is still busy with basket orders and has taken up painting alongside this. He has a small display of his still lives, landscapes or abstract art available in the gite. We live here full time and continue to love our life in la belle France
We always enjoyed living in the country in the UK and wanted a similar rural setting in France. Although we know Provence better than the Dordogne we prefer the landscape and the climate in this part of France so decided to concentrate our search in The Perigord Vert. When we first saw Chez Neymard and La Maison d'Amis we were smitten and since moving here we have discovered what makes this part of the Perigord so appealing. There is a gentleness and intimacy about the view of the valley from La Maison d'Amis and even on grey days the mists that hang in the valley slowly lift to reveal the church steeple of nearby Champs Romain to the north and the patchwork of fields and broadleaved woodlands to the east.
La Maison d'Amis is ideally suited for couples looking for a relaxing break in an unspoilt rural location. Tastefully renovated, fully refreshed in 2025 and in it's eleventh season it is perfect for walking, birdwatching, swimming, (St Saud Lake, 6.5 miles), kayaking on the Dronne, cycling or just taking it easy and enjoying the fresh air and tranquility. People with a love of crafts will enjoy the basket studio and workshop and could combine this with a break for a holiday with a difference.
