Beautiful large house with a very pretty garden and gorgeous pool. The house is very well equipped with all that you need for a comfortable and relaxing holiday. There are shops within 10 minutes drive and also restaurants in nearby Branne and neighbouring villages. Beautiful St. Emilion is also within a stones throw of the property. Everyone from our 3 and a half week old granddaughter to ourselves had a great holiday. We are a family of 7 adults, 2 babies, 2 toddlers and 1 5 year old and the house accommodated us all very well. We are thinking about a return next year already.
Three generations family gathering and holiday - August 2022
We enjoyed our stay at this property immensely. The house, pool house and garden are well-equipped and comfortably absorbed 11 of us for 8 days. The house is far larger than we expected from the photographs. The kitchen was large and well-equipped and we spent a lot of time on the terrace and patio areas at the rear of the property. The swimming pool was lovely - not too deep for the majority of our kids. The large garden is beautiful and very private.
Cabara itself is a small, sleepy village but we enjoyed a locally organised jazz evening by the river. St Emilion is to be recommended and, while you could spend quite a lot of money, there are also a number of reasonably priced places to eat. We enjoyed the recommendation of Les Cordeliers cloisters and the pique-nique in the rear garden there.
The host, Gabrielle, was really helpful before and during our stay with helpful suggestions and timely information. Thank you for house - we had a wonderful time as a family.
This was an absolutely incredible find for a villa for our family. We loved it SO much!
We loved the spaciousness of the Chateau, it is huge and could easily be suitable for 2-3 families. The six of us had plenty of room! The outdoor patio area was beautiful and comfortable with plenty of lounge seating and dining space. The layout of the house was also great - a large and well equipped kitchen, two lounge/dining spaces which flowed out to the patio and large utility room downstairs with a toilet. Upstairs was also very spacious with 5 huge comfy bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, one toilet and a library/playroom!
The garden was stunning with a beautiful (and warm!) swimming pool which we spent many hours playing in and relaxing by. We enjoyed games of ping pong and pool in the separate and very comfy outhouse most days too - so lovely to have so many options of things to do available at the house.
We had never visited this area of France before and thought it was truly stunning. Vineyards everywhere! Saint Emillion was a gorgeous village with many spectacular viewpoints across the vines. We had lunch at Chateau de Candale winery one day too which Iâd highly recommend. We also did the picnic in the cloisters and tour of the cellars in St Emillion which we loved.
I would highly recommend this villa for a relaxing holiday in a beautiful part of the world.
Great when we managed to get in. Had a slight issue with getting hold of the key on arrival. Luckily a neighbour had the owners contact number as it wasn't sent to me and there was little or no signal outside the property that made calling anyone quite tricky. We had to phone Vrbo who were very helpful but all this took over half an hour and was a little disconcerting having just arrived.
The property was delightful although the garden definitely needed tidying up. Whilst we didn't mind doing this it might be useful to note for future guests. There were leaves everywhere especially all over the patio and it's furniture.
It was a fabulous place to stay in a good location and with plenty of space for us all 12 in total. We had asked for 4 x double beds but there were only 3 made up but the couple who had asked for a double were fine with the twin so it wasn't a problem.
There was no bedding in the separate accommodation but again there was plenty in the house so we were able to make up the beds for the two ladies that stayed in there.
Overall we were happy and Gabrielle was helpful. Perhaps communication between the owner, cleaner, Vrbo and guest could have been slightly better.
We did have and issue with the kettle and cooker but Gabrielle sorted the problem out straight away and couldn't have been more helpful.
We would definitely stay there again and would recommend it to others too. Gabrielle was great.
Excellent property with plenty of space for large groups; quiet but great location for amenities
We stayed for one week with 8 adults, three children and a teenager. Everyone was happy, there was lots of space and the quality of accommodation was very good. There are plenty of activities nearby such as horse riding and canoeing. Saint Emilion also really close. The host Gabrielle was very prompt with responses and queries pre and during the trip. Would recommend and would stay again!
Wonderful holiday, many things to do for all ages. Beautiful area with plenty of interesting places to visit. However the house was so good that we stayed put and did not have as many outings as we had intended.
We are a family of five who love the Aquitaine region and wanted a getaway in the real countryside. I cannot fault this house. From the moment we drove into the village we were so impressed. The property is vast, and far more luxurious than we expected. All the rooms are airy and beautifully appointed. I only wish I could recreate that ambiance at home! We loved the kitchen, very well equipped, and enormous living space, to escape at the height of the summer sun. The bedrooms are large and elegant, and no expense has been spared with fixtures and fittings. We had a wonderful holiday full of fun and laughter and days by the pool (very private)...and days exploring this very special area of France. When you are on the doorstep of Saint-Emilion you are simply spoilt for choice in terms of wine and food and good times. Thank you so much Gaby for a wonderful break. We will definitely come back soon!
We booked the house as a weekend getaway for a group of 5 friends. We hired a car from the airport with no problem at all and found Gaby's directions spot and arrived with no hitches. The house itself was incredible - our idea of French elegance and homely comfort - the rooms are stylish and chic and the history and architecture is unspoilt. Wonderfully comfortable beds, with beautiful linen and soft furnishings. Everything you could possibly want in terms of equipment and the terrace in the evening was stunning. A gorgeous pool (heated) and given that we all had young children, I appreciated the lovely small table and chairs, trampoline and children's plates and cutlery, games and bunk-beds. Stunning surroundings and beautiful walks on your doorstep and the nearby supermarket was fully stocked with cheese, meats and wine ! A very happy and memorable weekend in a property that just made us smile from the moment we arrived.
A memorable long weekend relaxing in Cabara.
The owner, Gabby, and her husband, bought and renovated the property and have certainly added their creative touch. It is glorious in both architecture and interior decor. All rooms are unique in style and have their own charm. The house and grounds are superb and it was a real bonus to have a heated swimming pool of which we certainly made use.
Even though our trip was just for a long weekend, because of all the advice and help in booking restaurants and places to visit we feel like we were there for longer. Some of the places visited included shopping in St.Emilion and Chateau Candale a true gem of a vineyard with amazing food - both in very easy driving distance (10-15mins max).
Lazy evenings sat round the table on the terrace enjoying the summer sun, gossiping with a large glass of rose just made each day even more memorable â such a relaxing time!

Overall, a wonderful chateaux decorated with great taste. Very reasonable price, considering how lovely the place is. Highly recommended to anyone looking to visit this stunning area. I am very fussy but this exceeded my family's expectations! A five star experience.
We were looking for a complete âchill outâ stay and this charming house with quality furnishings totally stood up to the job. Gabrielleâs driving directions from Bordeaux were spot on (once we got out of the car park!!) so use them if hiring a car from the airport!
We have nothing but praise for this lovingly restored house and although we were only a couple, it felt very comfortable and not too big (although it is!) and we made good use of the lovely garden / terrace and pool.
After a day exploring the local area, a glass of wine and dinner on the very peaceful terrace, was our own little piece of heaven in Cabara.
Worth driving the 15 minutes to St Emillion town, with its numerous sites / shops and great restaurants and we ended going back a few times !
I would definitely recommended this friends / families, big or small groups, as it would accommodate all.
My extended family, with ages ranging from 16 months to 89 years of age, spent a wonderful 8 days in Gabrielle's beautiful home in Cabara.
The quality of the furnishings and decorations far exceeded our expectations. Also the size of the house allowed us all an element of privacy. The gardens and village setting just a short walk from the banks of the Dordogne river added to the charm. Branne had plenty of shops and a supermarket which was more than adequate. We also ate at cafe cuisine which had a great set menu. The location was good for trips to Bordeaux, St Emilion and has many vineyards worth a visit in close proximity. The only downside is that in such a large house there was only one WC upstairs and one downstairs! But the pluses far outweighed the negatives.
We have just returned from a lovely week staying at Gabrielles beautiful house in Cabara, 30mins from Bordeaux. The house is fabulously decorated and we arrived just as the cleaners were leaving so the place was very clean. The house is deceptively big, there are 5 bedrooms (4 doubles and 1 childrens room with 4 beds and a cot), and the downstairs has a lovely flow of living space which easily accomodated the 3 couples and 1 baby and 1 toddler that we had with us. There is also a lovely den upstairs which could accomodate another guest. We ate lunch and dinner on the terrace mainly but did venture into Branne for one lovely dinner in Le Cafe Cuisine. The swimming pool is heated which was fantastic and has a cover for safety. There are 3 shower rooms but only one toilet which was my only complaint. Would not hesitate to recommend and would also love some interior design advice from Gabrielle based on this house!!

I was born in Sydney and moved to France, aged 12 so I consider my spiritual home in is Australia but my heart will always be in France..and for all the right reasons: the culture, the food, the fabulous wine and the French! I have been a franco-phile all my life and fell in love with this region about ten years ago. Bordeaux offers everything Paris does but on a smaller and more interesting scale. The region surrounding the City has everything from beaches to vineyards to incredible cultural history. I have two teenage children who have grown up holidaying in our French home and love it. My husband is English and he too shares my passion with France. I am an interior designer and am lucky enough to work a lot in the Bordeaux region.
Our criteria in buying a property in the area was that it was close to a main City, in a small village so we were not isolated and could chat to the neighbours and that we were within easy access to activities for both the children and for us and our friends and family.
For us and our family, the location of the house is key as it offers everything we sought after from a rural experience to not being too far from good restaurants and shops.
