Great family rental but not spotlessly clean
We enjoyed our stay at North Shore. At times there were 10 of us in residence and we didn't feel short of space. Unfortunately, because the weather was appallingly wet during our stay we could not make the most of the outside space but this, of course, is not a problem of the rental.
There were some issues with this property that I feel should be mentioned:
ACCESS: The access to the house is certainly not for those with limited mobility. One can either enter through the downstairs playroom but this means one has to negotiate a very steep set of wooden stairs. Access to the main door involves either using concrete stepping stones over water (no water in it when we were there) or via a couple of paving slabs on a steep grass slope. Again not ideal and certainly when the weather is wet makes the access dangerously slippery.
CLEANLINESS: The initial impression of the house was that it was clean. However, upon our arrival at 9pm I really had no wish to have to wash up the 15 dirty glasses (all with greasy fingermarks covering the entire outside of the glasses), 2 unwashed frying pans, 2 saucepans with what looked like either potato and pasta water marks. There was also dirty cutlery. The oven gloves had not been replaced with clean ones and were covered in food marks from the previous occupant. I mentioned this problem about a week into our stay when I had to make mention to the property manager about the fact that the heating was not working in the main living room. Her response was "....... depending on the condition that the property is left in when vacated sometimes there simply isn’t time to check every single item of kitchen equipment and things can get overlooked". This response is totally unacceptable. If there is not sufficient time to clean then they should employ an extra person.
HEATING: As just mentioned, we had a problem with some of the radiators in the living room. When we arrived the house was lovely and warm - very much appreciated considering the awful weather - but after a couple of days it seemed that the radiators were only producing luke-warm heat. I gave it another day or so before realising that the radiators in that room had failed completely which is when I then raised the issue with the manager. She dealt with this swiftly and had someone come around to fix this.
So, all in all, not bad but not what I expect considering the amount of money it cost to rent there.
Thank you for taking the time to submit your comments Susan, lovely to hear that you all enjoyed your stay.
It is a little upsetting for the house to be portrayed in such a negative way despite your 4 star rating.
I have looked back through all of our correspondence and I do not have any any mention of a member of your party having limited mobility, I am not sure if you actually had a less mobile member in your group or you are kindly passing this information on.
Both the upper and lower level access to the house are perfectly accessible to the able bodied. My previous experience of guests with mobility concerns is that they will confirm arrangements and facilities prior to making a booking.
Anyone reading this reply with concerns about access please do be in touch and I can forward images of all entry/exit points to upper and lower levels of the house if required.
I am still at a loss as to why you waited three days to alert us of the problem with the heating, once the problem was reported we were at the property within the hour and the problem, as you say was resolved very swiftly, there was absolutely no need for you not to have a warm house for that period.
It is very unfair to list this as a negative to your stay.
Problems do occur but if we are not made aware of an issue we have a zero chance of any rectification.
This is the same with the marked crockery and cutlery, we were not notified of your concerns for nearly a week following your arrival.
Sadly, very rarely, guests do not respect a property, as was the case with the departing group on your arrival. I will not go into exact detail but for the two Housekeepers to turn around such a large property, vacated in such an awful condition in the four hour window that we have and the only oversight to be checking glasses and pans placed at the back of the cupboards by departing occupants was nothing short of a miracle.
As a school holiday booking all of our remaining Housekeepers were committed to our other properties. We have now made arrangements to have third Housekeeper “on call” should she be required.
Once more, had we been informed on arrival a member of the team would have visited the property the same day. Your email read........"I didn't want to contact you to ask someone to come over and clean the things that had been missed” again you gave us no opportunity to assist you in any way.
We take pride in our property presentation and always do our very best to ensure that our houses and apartments are presented in a beautiful condition, I am confident that our high standards will continue and send my apologies to you that on this occasion we were not completely perfect.
Many thanks for your booking.
This is an excellent property for a large extended family which we were. Well situated for Carbis beach and Porthminster beach both with good amenities. St Ives not too far to walk to either.
The house was well stocked with most everything you will need and plenty of room for everyone.
The only small minor negative points would be the hot water system didn’t always work and the open space at the top of the stairs which didn’t have a stair gate, we had a 2 year old with us which made it impossible not to have to follow her around constantly, a stair gate would have given her a little bit more freedom to run around with the other 2 children.
All in all a wonderful stay.
Lovely house with good facilities and a great location. A gentle 15 minute walk with stunning scenery. We were a family group aged 26 to 84 and there was plenty of apace for us all. A great family holiday.
A beautiful house with plenty of space inside and out to relax. Garden, private and quiet. House located close to both Carbis Bay and St Ives, short walk to coastal path or road to catch bus.
A perfect holiday retreat in a perfect location.
