Had a wonderful 4 night stay in a beautiful quiet village. Accommodation was clean, comfortable, well equipped and quiet. Lovely touches of fresh garden flowers, jar of chocolate cookies and tea/coffee, jug of milk supplied. We were made to feel very welcome by the host and communication was clear and concise. We loved the wandering, grazing cows and families of ducks and geese walking around. The local pub The Alice Hawthorn served wonderful food and drink and was well worth a visit but I would advise to book in advance. The location for us to Ripon Races/Harrogate/York was perfect and we loved returning to our quiet, peaceful retreat. I would definitely recommend this property.
Lovely âupside downâ barn conversation in a very quiet and lovely village. It had everything we needed and more for a relaxing stay. Close enough to York for easy visits, but far enough away to feel very remote and cut off.Plenty of cooking equipment and utensils, lovely 1st floor living, kitchen and dining room with nice views of the village green.2 good bedrooms and 2 bathrooms - comfy beds.Features like the little slit windows, the upside down configuration, the car port and the location in an authentic village (complete with ducks ponds and grazing cows) makes this quite a unique stay.Nice touches with the welcome milk, biscuits, teas and coffee, and a lovely personal welcome from Boo.Would definitely stay again.
Our third stay and another wonderful week. We love both Lane End Barn and Nun Monkton. The Barn is beautifully presented and equipped with everything you would need. Boo is helpful and friendly whilst also allowing you to enjoy your holiday and give you plenty of space. The Dyson fan was really appreciated during a spell of hot weather during our stay and the upstairs living room and Velux rooflights allow a lovely breeze. We look forward to our next visit. Thank you Boo!
We had 3 nights in this lovely barn conversation in Nun Moncton. The accommodation is excellent and very well placed for visiting York, Harrogate and many other places in North Yorkshire. The owner was very friendly and welcoming . Itâs well worth a visit !
Really nice barn in a lovely quiet village. York and Harrogate are only 30 minutes away. The vinyard in walking distance is worth a visit.
Overall a very pleasant stay, weâll be going back there again.
Vielen Dank!
Another relaxing stay in Nun Monkton. Another lovely meal at the Alice Hawthorne Inn. A comfortable property and great place for our family to meet up from Lancashire and Hampshire.
Many thanks, hope to visit again next year.

The property is in a lovely quaint village close to York. The property is very well equipped with extremely comfortable beds (so important). The kitchen is well equipped.
Beautiful Barn perfectly located for different trips
We had a wonderful time at the barn, which is so tastfully furnished and well equipped. It is also well located for a trip to lovely York or any of the AONBs around. We highly recommend it.
The barn was outstanding a true luxury for three days in a chocolate box village scenario.Outstanding eatery in the village. Our host was exemplary was there to greet us then on-site if needed and ended with a cheery goodbye.
Brilliant little property that was perfect for a few days relaxing away from it all. The open plan kitchen/living area on the first floor has a lovely view out over the village green and we were treated to an assortment of wildlife including the village cows grazing. Downstairs the bedrooms were extremely comfortable. Being just 10 min drive from one of York's park and ride is very convenient. Overall we had a wonderful time and Boo made us feel very welcome.
The property has been converted to a very high standard. Everything was of good quality and very comfortable. The owner is a lovely lady and very helpful.
This is a wonderful, immaculate, beautiful and tasteful barn conversion. The communication with the owner was easy, friendly and helpful. We loved the village green setting and ate at the fantastic pub. We would definitely return here for another stay. Loved it!
We stayed for 6 nights and found this to be an excellent location and accommodations. It is located close to York, about 15-20 miles. There is a park and ride close to Nun Monkton that I would strongly suggest, makes it easier to avoid the traffic and parking in York.
As for our host, she was very available and patient. There were issues with VRBO but I was able to contact Boo directly and she always responded quickly. Very patient! Iâm just sorry we didnât get a chance to meet her!
In my VRBO experience, this was a superb property. Lots of room and a fully stocked kitchen. Donât let the term âbarnâ dissuade you from booking this VRBO, you wonât regret it.
The village of Nun Monkton is charming, several wonderful walks around the village. The Alice Hawthorn restaurant is only a 10 minute walk from the barn and well worth it. There is also a pub.
We look forward to returning to this wonderful location.
We enjoyed our stay at Lane End Barn very much. The property was well equipped and spotlessly clean on arrival. Nun Monkton and the surrounding area are beautiful, and it was easy to visit York and Harrogate. Would return in a heartbeat and thoroughly recommend this property.
The barn conversion has been really well done with 2 beds 2 bathrooms on the ground floor and a really well equipped kitchen and dining/living area on the top floor. Decor shows good taste! Boo was really helpful and phoned me before the stay. Everything was perfect. The village itself is lovely and we can recommend The Alice Hawthorn for dinner. Canât wait to come back.
I have lived in Nun Monkton for over 40 years and had a Good Food Guide recommended restaurant in York . When I retired from the demands of restaurant life, I become involved in the wine trade and was a tutor for the Wine and Spirit Education Trust. My travels have taken me all over the world and there is still a lot more to see. I am a keen gardener; play golf and love walking in the North Yorkshire Moors, Wolds and Dales with friends.
Reasons for buying property in this location I arrived in Yorkshire 40 years ago by accident having sold a restaurant in Essex. I was staying with friends who suggested I looked at a cottage in Nun Monkton which was for sale. I fell in love with the place, bought it, opened and restaurant in York and kept a horse in the barn. When the restaurant was sold it was clear something drastic had to be done to stop the barn falling down. I took a gamble and embarked on a full scale conversion. The horse had to go, but I have had a lot of happy guests in his place since.
Nun Monkton is the most glorious village and I count myself very lucky to live here. Apart from the charm of the place, with its maypole, duck ponds, a church boasting pre Raphaelite stained glass windows and a pub with fabulous food, we are just ten minutes from a York Park and Ride and have easy access to the North Yorkâs Moors and The Dales. The grade 2 listed barn is carefully converted, warm and cosy with a log burning stove and great views over the village green and open country. I am on hand in case of emergencies but know too that privacy is important. Friends and family often stay in the barn and they are my fiercest critics. If it's good enough for my 90 year old mother ......
