The perfect getaway in a quiet rural setting. Plenty of safe space for children to play or in our case with a young dog. Very comfortable bedrooms and a well provisioned kitchen. We had a great time.
Very warm and comfortable for family and dogs during a wet October week, with plenty to do and in a good position in beautiful countryside.Great, but unobtrusive support from owners ,friendly caretakers and helpful neighbours.Well equipped, sensibly decorated property. Good pubs!
Fabulous, cosy, homely and well equipped farm house with open fire, log stove and Aga - perfect for our family Christmas get-together (it fitted up 12 with local day visitors). As long as you want to be remote and don't mind not being right on a beach (though not too far!) this is a wonderful choice.
Rented with family to celebrate my 60th birthday.
9 people and 4 dogs.
A few things could have been a little less tatty but overall a cozy large house and owner very obliging and helpful.
Local pubs do amazing food too!
It is down some very narrow roads but persevere and you will get there. The property was as described and very clean. All the basic household stuff was there except dishwasher tablets and make sure you have at least the basics for food because it is a long way to the supermarket! Getting into the house was easy and keeping in contact with the owner was not a problem. The children had plenty of room to run around outside. Beds were comfortable. The only things that could be said against it are that the lighting was of a very low intensity and the table tennis and pool tables in the outhouse were not useable due to the state they were in. 10 people, six adults and four children stayed there and all enjoyed the holiday.
If you book The Barn you will have hit the jackpot! Truly a tremendous place for a family holiday - fabulous accommodation (bags of character, plenty of space and gorgeous bed linen), superb gardens (for lots of running around, a great swing and so much wildlife) and a great rural location close to the river and some wonderful beaches). Squeaky clean too thanks to Gemma and Louie. Go for it - you won't be disappointed.
For the first time ever we decided to go away for Christmas. We were looking for a dog friendly place in deepest Cornwall where we could explore during the day and relax by the fire at night.
Higher Barn was the perfect retreat! We arrived after a 6 hour drive and felt immediately at home. Jane had organized for a Christmas Tree in the lounge area and a bottle of champagne and Italian Christmas cake. This set the tone for 6 days of exploring the Lizard and nights playing board games around the fire.
The Lizard is a fabulous place to explore and there are numerous coves and bays within a 30 minute drive. We had a BBQ on the beach on Christmas Day! There are some super pubs (including one in the local village) if you dont want to cook at the barn.
All in all a good find and if we are in Cornwall again we would use again.
Fantastic stay in beautiful cottage, amazing walks
Our family stayed over the New Year period & we all had the most wonderful time. With 3 teenagers slightly apprehensive at keeping them occupied, we need not have worried. The surrounding countryside was so peaceful and picturesque with great walks on the doorstep. The cottage itself was very clean & well-maintained and any query was quickly answered by the owner. Would recommend walk to The Shipwrights pub in Helford for moules-frites and return for the cosiest night-in by the log fire. The cottage was very well-equipped inside and had a great outdoor area for table tennis. We will definitely be returning in the summer.
Unfortunately post code does not show the location- it was very difficult to find, especially during the night!
Cottage was freezing cold - no radiators in the kitchen, corridor or reception rooms and some bedrooms! Heating was set up as -off during the night ! Aga was broken - the landlord was not helpful at all!
The beds were without bedding!
Only 2 could have shower at any one time!!!
It was very disappointing!
All above could be easily sorted but the land lady didnât really care!!!
If possible, find somewhere else!!!!

A lovely cottage in a lovely part of the world. It was really homely and we'll equipped. Plenty of space for everyone to relax. The owner was very helpful and provided information of what to see and do in the local area. Would recommend. Thank you very much, couldn't ask for more.
We have had a great holiday at Higher Boden Barn. It is a very relaxed setting, ideal for our August holiday with different members of our family coming and going over a three-week period. The house is ideally located to discover the charms of the Helford river as well as the great beaches and coastal walks around the Lizard Peninsula.
Sehr empfehlenswert!
Jane was amazingly flexible to help us attend a family wedding and couldn't have been more helpful in finding a dog sitter for us. The house was warm and comfortable and ideal for grandparents with children and grandchildren. It reminded us of staying in old Breton farms in the past - lots of barns and gardens to enjoy. It's well placed for the beaches, the Helford estuary with gardens and sailing and some great pubs. A great place to relax.
Would recommend this property to any family or group of friends. It is in a great location and the house and its contents are just perfect. Sarah the owner was a gem answered every question I had promptly . As two families of four (teenagers) it was a perfect week .
We could not have had a better week .The house was perfect for our needs , well equipped , clean and comfortable . The Lizard is at its best at this time of year so pretty with bluebells and blossom . We cycled , swam and sunbathed all in all a perfect break .
The property met with every expectation.Peace and quiet ideal from the hustle and bustle of every day life. Plenty of walks in the country side with amazing views. Highly recommended.
Myself and the family arrived at higher boden barn and instantly loved it! It has a real cosy authentic feel, and has lots of room for the kids to run about outside, without the worry of them getting lost or into any mischief. Their is plenty of seating in and around the house, which is nice if you want to relax and unwind after a busy day. We loved the ping pong and pool table situated in the outside barn as this generated a family holiday tournament. The only thing that I can highlight as essential is a car, we did need to drive each day to either a beach or shop, but all good beaches are within a hours drive, and the local supermarket is about 20 minutes away, but this wasn't a problem.
Overall a lovely place, and would definitely stay again.
The barn is an amazing place. It is so peaceful. The house was lovely and warm, clean and cosy. It had everything you could need and want, it felt like a home away from home. The table tennis and pool tables were a big hit and were well used. I would not hesitate to recommend the barn to friends and family and would definitely stay again next time we are in Cornwall. Thanks
The 9 of us had a wonderful christmas at the barn!
The space the barn has to offer is more than enough for the whole family and everything you could need is provided. Comfy beds, cozy fireplaces and beautiful views, need we say more...we didn't want to go home and have already booked our 2016 holiday.
The barn is situated a short drive from some fantastic beaches; coverack, church cove and gunwalloe are a few favourites. The coverack christmas swim is great to watch with a lovely atmosphere as recommended by Jane. The seal sanctuary and Roskillys are fab places to visit, especially if you have young ones with you.
Jane was extremely helpful and made us feel very welcome. We can't wait to come back!
We have just spent a very relaxing time over the New Year with our good friends who made the way to Higher Boden all the way from Hexham (best part of 500 miles each way). Our group had 4 adults and 4 teenagers (and one dog), which the barn accommodated very comfortably. Thanks to the Aga, central heating and open fires the barn stayed snug, despite the wet weather.
The kitchen comfortably accompanied our culinary efforts with the large table easily coping with our group. Having two sitting rooms was also very handy as the TV watchers were able to settle in to watch the films on offer over the New Year without disturbing the others. The barn was well used (table tennis) and the walks around the area were lovely. I also need to mention the amazing pub food at the nearby Prince of Wales (check out trip advisor).
We fully intend to come down again - thanks, your barn is a welcome haven from our normal busy lives!!!

We (family of four including two very small children) and the in-laws had a fantastic week at the Barn. The place is beautiful and so isolated it's impossible not to relax in the tranquillity of the setting.
All conveniences are provided and our stay was very comfortable, though we did work the dishwasher hard as the nine of us ate in every evening. There are so many places to either drive to or walk to that we already want to go back to go to some more of the lovely places that the area has to offer.
Jane was very helpful and made sure we were well catered-for, and we would thoroughly recommend the Barn to anyone who wants to get away from it all for a week.
The Barn made an immediate impression with us all, a adult family group. We were all captivated by the setting.
Having chosen our bedrooms, our Son and Daughter-in-law got to grips with the Aga for our first meal.
Although we did eat in, including a barbecue, we also went further afield as there were plenty of good places to dine out within a short drive.
As keen walkers the Barn was an ideal base and very comfortable to return to.
Highly recommended.

I live with my husband and 4 children in the U.K. I am a GP and my husband has a company which runs adventure challenges for charities. We have a very busy lifestyle both working and lots of kids, but this place is so relaxing and safe for children with loads of things around for them to do ranging from just being wild at the farm, to exploring creeks, or more structured days out such as the Seal Sanctuary at Gweek or visiting St Ives. The Minnack Theatre, or the National Maritime Museum in Falmouth.
We were looking to buy a place with sea views but fell in love with the charm and tranquility of The Barn at Higher Boden, it is like going back in time to a piece of English countryside which has mainly disappeared .It is also very close to Gillan creek, only one mile, and only 2 miles from the more well known Helford River. We felt that you could get the best of all world's here, not only are you close to some spectacular rugged Cornish beaches eg Kynance Cove, Mullion, Church Cove, but you also have the lushness of the South side of Cornwall with some beautiful protected creeks. The Barn has been sensitively converted to try and maintain the character of the building and is part of a farm no longer working which is mentioned in the Domesday Book.
The main benefits at the house itself is the tranquility it is a great safe place to just let children run wild, there is a large garden and a stable block with Table Tennis and laundry.
St Anthony a charming coastal hamlet a mile away provides sailing lessons and canoe hire in which you can explore the creeks. Helford has a great pub,and you can also catch a ferry across the river to Helford Passage which has an excellent pub and is a short walk to Trebar Gardens.
