We always love staying in Topanga! My family really enjoyed staying in this home. It was perfect weather compared to our Phoenix heat, and never needed to use the AC. House was clean and accommodating. Thank you!
This is a beautiful home and Mary is a lovely host. My favorite part of the visit was the multiple outdoor spaces where we spent mornings and evenings gazing at the views of the canyons.
We had a wonderful time on a friendâs trip to LA and staying in Maryâs home. The home itself is beautiful, clean and comfortable and set in the most amazing backdrop of the canyon. While it was a wet weekend, we took advantage of Maryâs recommendations for food and really appreciate her sending us her sharing them with us. Would definitely stay again!
We had an amazing time here. Beautiful home with hiking trails just right outside. It was a very relaxing time. A real peaceful setting inside and out. Host was excellent.
We absolutely loved this VRBO. The outside area is just gorgeous and the views are incredible. Had some hummingbirds visit us several times on the deck. It was comfortable and it was well stocked with kitchen and bathroom items. This host is super friendly. We enjoyed our communication with her.
This was the second time we stayed at the property and it was even better this time. We were able to hike, go for a short 15 min drive to the beach, and just relax on the great porch. This property feels very remote, but is close to cafes, stores, and a short drive from lots of city amenities.
My husband, myself and another couple stayed for 3 nights and we all loved it. The house has a charming atmosphere and the kitchen was extremely well stocked. The views of Topanga Canyon from the house are breathtaking and you would never know you were in LA. We would definitely stay here again. Mary was extremely responsive to all of our communication and wanted to make sure we enjoyed our stay.
Maryâs home is the perfect balance of being in nature and still close to city amenities. All of the outdoor seating and lounging areas were great for reading under the trees, swinging in the hammock, or getting sun on the deck. I would (and have) recommend this property to anyone that wants to experience Topanga Canyon.
It was special to stay in a house that actually was lived in and loved instead of a sterile vacation rental. Communication was always extremely fast and the light up there is just gorgeous.
Enjoyed our brief stay at your house. Would have liked to stay longer and walk the local trails. Maybe next time. Hope we left everything in acceptable condition.
Thx Mary
We came to visit some family and had a really nice time hiking and exploring the area around the property. The view of the canyons from all angles of the home was gorgeous and picturesque. Would recommended bringing detergent if you're looking to use the washer/dryer but the home had most things that we needed. Clean for the most part except for the shower curtains that we sprayed some cleaner on for mold.
What an amazing way to get closer to nature. We only live 6 miles from this house, but it made us feel like we were a million miles away which is exactly what we were looking for. The inside of the house is great, but we spent most of the time outside enjoying the views and seeing and hearing the birds chirpping. The outside deck is great.
Whether you are coming from near or far, this is a great place to disconnect and get back to reality.
Such a treat to stay in this wonderfully peaceful haven on top of your very own hill! 360 degree views of the canyon. Superb sunrises, sunsets and stargazing. Mary is an awesome host and was very available to answer questions.
Maryâs home is so thoughtfully decorated and extremely well equipped. The kitchen is very well stocked with cookware, gadgets, knives, dishes⊠everything you need to cook great meals, just bring your groceriesâŠor have them Instacarted!
Such a cozy retreat in a gorgeous setting.
Thank you Mary, for sharing your beautiful home with us.

Charming, functional canyon house (but a bit dated)
The most important thing is that we all slept very well in this top of the canyon house. It's small but it easily fit the 4 of us. The furniture and the AC systems are a bit dated, but they work. Beds are comfortable. The location is super quiet, which we liked a lot. The road to the house is steep. You park at the front of the house in a street that is too narrow to u-turn so you have to backup until you get to a neighbor's driveway to turn the car around. Communication with the owner was easy and smooth.
Our week-long stay at Mary's home was exactly what we needed during Thanksgiving Week. We had a beautiful space, both inside and out, we could enjoy and feel like we'd "gotten away from it all." At the same time, we were in close proximity to family in the valley. Mary's attention to detail was impeccable. We are so thankful she was willing to let us have our dogs with us, and it was clear how much she loves her own. To be able to hike in the canyon right from the property was delightful. The indoor space was perfect for the two of us, and the outdoor deck and porch space was really amazing. The peace and tranquility the landscaping and water features added were another lovely layer. This was truly an exceptional find.
I donât really have much to add that the reviews havenât already established. Yes, the driveway is steep. No, there arenât handrails leading up to the property. Yes, the property is relatively small, but enough for a cozy group of 4. Yes, Mary is friendly and communicative.
The view is spectacular and the property is familiar, comforting, and perhaps a little inspiring. :-) If youâre looking for a wholesome, quirky getaway in a beautiful environment, this is the place!
Sylvia Park is a cozy house at the top of a canyon road situated near Topanga State Park, a quick drive to Malibu, Santa Monica and Calabasas area. The house was a perfect retreat for my husband and I looking for a relaxing stay while in town for a concert and visiting our daughter in college. While the CA weather did not fully cooperate with our visit, overcast and rainy, the house was a great place to sit and read, hang out, while enjoying the views. The kitchen was well stocked with anything you would need to prepare a meal. Furnishings are homey and eclectic with interesting art and travel pieces. As mentioned in another review, the road to the house is a bit steep and windy, and you will have to have some backing out skills. I recommend arriving while still light out, as driving the road for the first time in the dark could be a bit stressful. :) Mary was an awesome host, reaching out early to confirm stay, communicated last minute details, and gave us some great restaurant recommendations. If we visit again, hope to get more use out of the patio views and hiking options.
If you read any negative reviews about this place; most likely the guest didn't read the descriptions. The pictures and descriptions are spot on. It is an old hippie house, clean as a whistle, with more character than a movie set, up a steep hill at the end of a oneway street; which is a GOOD thing. Go to some of the spectacular farmers markets the host recommends and get groceries. Come home and prepare a meal in one of the most appointed kitchens of any VRBO I've stayed in. Enjoy the quiet calm of the patio of your choice with tranquil mountain views in all directions. It's hard to believe you are a short drive from LA and not in Montana. This will be my go to spot in LA from now on.
Maryâs place is lovingly appointed with everything you need to relax and enjoy this beautiful part of California. Well laid out, comfy beds and exceptional views indoors and out. Take the hikes she recommends!
