The house is immaculate and very comfortable. The kitchen is equipped for anything you might want to cook. The view across the lake is all natural, no houses. the lake is lovely and amazingly quiet. The walk down the stone, switch-back path to the lake is tricky with full hands but great exercise and an amazing feat of engineering.
We had an amazing time!!! Beautiful house and location for our family vacation!! Our kids loved jumping off the dock and the rocks at the lake! So fun using the kayaks and hydrobikes! House was so clean! Great communication with host. So many deer to se. We loved it!
We absolutely loved our stay at the lake house. The communication was smooth and effortless between Shari and I. The views of Billings Lake were spectacular (but the staircase leading there was a little daunting.) The kitchen was well appointed and the decor was perfect. It was private, had all the toys (including fishing poles and tackle) and there was even a fireworks display on Saturday night from a neighboring camp. It was perfect and may need to be part of our annual adventures.
Thank you so much.
This is our second time renting this property (2015) because my husband's family lives nearby so we make a vacation doubled with visiting. Wonderful property on a quiet, clean lake. The house literally has everything you could even think of needing (kitchen stuff, lake stuff, games, extra pillows, literally everything). Children were 7 & 8 and they asked if we could move to that house and live there LOL. Check in and communication from the hosts were excellent and the place is super clean. Thank you for sharing your awesome cabin with my family!
Our vacation was amazing! The house and the lake was beautiful. We were able to go kayaking and swimming and we were not far from other attractions. It was exactly what we were looking for!
We had an amazing vacation! The house was perfect. The pictures donât do it justice. Had everything you need and then some and very clean. Kayaks, life jackets, water bikes etc.. Everything in the kitchen you would ever need. The views from the house are breath taking. The water was clean and gorgeous . We didnât want to leave! We hope to return in the future. We will never forget this vacation ! Thank you so much for sharing your home with us!
We had a truly wonderful time in CT. The cottage was charming and we enjoyed coffee on the balcony every morning. The lake was very relaxing for us parents and there was plenty for the kids to do... Fishing, kayaking, swimming and jumping from the dock. Would recommend this place to everyone.
This is one of those hidden gems that you want to keep secret. The cottage is clean, comfortable, well equipped and FUN! The Lake is clean, pristine and full of fish, and delightful for tubing, kayaking or just staying cool on a hot summer day. We are grateful that we found this gem, practically in our back yard. We are grateful that the owners will share their sweet spot in Billings Lake!
The cottage was clean and well decorated with new appliances. Sheets, towels, and bedding were all clean and well cared for. Grill and outdoor fire pit made for a great evening cooking out. Waterfront toys (kayaks and hydrobikes) entertained the kids. Lake was pleasant to swim in. Cottage is off the beaten path enough to be a quiet place to stay, but relatively close to beaches and other entertainments. Overall a great place to stay!
While other New Englanders may be flocking to New Hampshire and Vermont, we found a hidden gem in Connecticut. North Stonington and Billings Lake is absolutely beautiful. The area is seemingly remote and agricultural but you are less than 30 minutes away from everything - beaches, casinos, and wineries.
And after a day's outing, you get to go home to a relaxing location directly on the lake - perfect. The home afforded all amenities you could possibly need. There were all manner of water toys to keep you occupied for hours on a pristine lake. The hydro-bikes were more fun then I thought they would be and perfect to tour the lake.
Our only regret was not being spry enough to traverse the stairs to the water more often - they are not for the faint of heart. You'll learn how out of shape you really are on the climb back up..
Thanks for providing us a great location for a weeks-long relaxing vacation.
I bought a Powerball ticket hoping to be able to retire early and buy a property just like this! Everything was there that you need. We were there to visit our son that is in the Navy, and we had the most awesome time. I can't wait to rent the same property the next time we go visit our son. If you are looking to rent a property in Connecticut, this one is it!
This is the third summer members of my family have stayed at the cottage, and there may be more visits in our future. The cottage is compact but comfortable, and the lake was cool, clean and refreshing. With air mattresses, inner tubes, hydro bikes, and kayaks, the kids always had something to keep them busy and happy. We love it here.
Very clean cottage with everything you need. I will be back.
Spent a week here and enjoyed every minute of it. All you need is a bag of clothes. Everything was provided to enjoy the lake life. Very peaceful lake and not crowded at all. Hydro bikes were fun to fish off of. Swimming hole was great with springs as you swim out from dock to cool off. We will be back for sure. Cottage is clean and well kept.
We visted for a week in mid October. We hit the fall colors just right and it was stunning. Peacful, quiet, romantic away from it all. The cabin sits high above the lake with easy although steep access to the lake. Each morning and evening we were greetwd with stunning sunrises, sunsets and moonrises over Billings Lake. The map point shown on the website is not quite the location it is slightly south on the lake on Cedars Road. You can actually access from Billings Road to Cedar Road or Legendwoods Road to Cedar Road.
The owners and Kim who let us in were delightful. Wifi and cable worked well except for a brief xfininty outage which Sheri helped us find out about. Cell phone covearge as others have mentioned is sketchy. The landline is great for people to call you.
The decor should please the fishing enthusiast...very cute. the cabin is comfortable and well equipped eapecially with games, movies and water toys (Bicycle boats, kayakes etc) On the weekend we saw quite a few fisherman on the lake. Otherwise it was very quiet at this time of year.
If you are looking for city life or close to touristy spots this is not it, however it is not a long drive to Stonington, Mystic or Watch Point. We spent one day travelling over to Plymouth. We highly recommend Clyde's Apple Mill if you are in the area. It is the oldest operating steam powered apple mill in the US. It operates from Sept-Nov check their website.
Bed downstairs was comfortable. This cabin coukd accomodate two couples or a family of six. The kitchen woukd be small for multiple cooks but there is a grill outside. TV with cable downstairs and for movies upstairs. Soapstone wood stove available and outside firepit. Picnic table, lots of chairs etc.
Water sports, hiking, bird watching and relaxing. We had great waerger and a relaxing time. Away from it all!
This place is awesome! Taking a walk is so relaxing, hydrobiking is awesome and having fun kayaking! We saw lots of fish and a blue heron. Lots of swimming down at the end of the lake was fun too. The house has just about everything you need to cook a meal. Beds were very comfy. Loved, Loved, Loved the upstairs back porch. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, and Snacks were eaten up there almost daily. The view was awesome. Looking thru the photos was alot of fun too. Thank you for opening your home.

The lake and its surroundings are so beautiful. The owner and the receptionist are very helpful and kind.
I shall recommend it for those who love the nature and beautiful scenery.
This is a very beautiful home set high above a quiet lake. The house was extremely clean and well cared for with most of the essentials anyone would need. It's especially nice that the linens were provided, there is a washer and dryer, and the place is air conditioned (during our terribly hot week). The abundance of water craft made it so enjoyable for all age groups.
The only 2 down sides: It is definitely not handicapped accessible. If you want to get down to the lake there are over 70 stone steps to reach the bottom. Going down is easy - coming up , especially on a hot, humid day, is another matter, especially for older people or those with respiratory issues or bad knees. This was clear in the description of the home and should be taken seriously.
Also, the cell phone service is very spotty, or nonexistent, depending on your carrier. There is a house phone for emergencies.
All in all, it was a wonderful vacation for all of us, ages 8 - 70. There is a lot to do in the area as well if you have a rainy day.
As depicted, recently remodeled cottage sits on a cliff overlooking beautiful lake. Lots of lake toys, including life jackets for children, (hydro-bikes were great fun), and bicycles for seeing the neighborhood. Fully furnished kitchen, incl BBQ tools. Wi-fi included & worked great, but no (Sprint) cell phone reception. Safe, but steep, walkway down to lake. Short drives to coastal attractions, Rhode Island, and Foxwood.
The title says it all. My close friend and I have been taking our children on group vacations for years, and this was definitely one of our best trips ever. We spent a long weekend at the lake with our five teenagers, and everyone had a fabulous, relaxing time. The cottage is just lovely, with everything you could possibly need provided, and the upstairs space easily accommodated all of the kids. We loved hanging out on the upstairs, covered balcony, with its comfy furniture and stunning views of the lake. The lake itself was, of course, a big hit -- the kids loved the hydrobikes, canoe, and kayak, and the adults loved reading on the dock, with our feet in the water, enjoying the tranquility. We are already discussing doing it again next summer; when you find some place that five teenagers can agree upon, it is a keeper!
Thanks for sharing your beautiful cottage with us. And a special thanks to Kim for taking such good care of us.
Simply a wonderful place to stay. We loved having morning coffee on the balcony and watching the morning mist fade from the lake as the sun crawled over the eastern hills. I kayaked around the lake every morning in serene bliss. I am not a bird expert but I believe a Great heron and a Cormorant were my only companions at such an early hour. Our kids, aged 5 and 2 spent hours every day in the wading pool constructed down by the dock and evening canoe rides with the family were capped off with toasted marshmallows by the fire. It is just minutes away from everything that we missed about Connecticut. 20 minutes to Mystic Aquarium and Seaport. 15 minutes to the beach. We even got a night out with out the kids and dined (adult style) and danced at the casino 5 miles away. Our last night there we ate lobsters at Skippers Dock and were treated to a beautiful sunset over the ocean. It is hard to believe you can get away from it all and still be so close to everything. Every place is what you make it. All we can say is that this place gave everyone in our family great memories. Hopefully when we come back up next year we can stay here again.
This cottage has been in Pauls family since 1947. His grandparents built it. The foundation is rocks that were handstacked by his grandfather. We remodeled it in 2009. The wall facing the driveway is the only original wall under the new siding and drywall. We built up and out from the original. We keep this cottage because of the sentimental value to us.
We think you will enjoy escaping from the noise and chaos of the real world. At our cottage you will be able to experience the quiet that is hard to find today. It is our peaceful place and we hope it will becomes yours.
