The apartment was nice with a homey feel and lots of cool art to look at. Walking distance to many restaurants, bars, and parks. Our host was helpful with maps and transportation info.
We enjoyed our stay in the one bedroom apartment. Once we worked out the public transport it was easy to get to the city and only a short bus or tram ride.
This accommodation is well-located, with easy transit to city center and nice restaurants nearby. The space itself is roomy, beautifully decorated, and excellently-maintained; Philip is a kind and communicative host.
The flat is reasonably close to the town center, a good deal of food and drink not far away. Philip is guy and we talked about art and design! The flat reflects that nicely. We felt comfortable. And nice to see a little water too!
We didnât actually stay as due to the storms, all trains and flights to Amsterdam were cancelled so we were couldnât get further than St Pancrasâs Eurostar queue.
However, Philip couldnât have been more helpful and kind, he was prepared to wait and welcome us late and when we confirmed we couldnât make it, offered alternative dates too.
So if we are able to come another time we wouldnât hesitate to contact Philip and stay at his apartment.
The property is at an excellent location. It is an expensive one, with regard to what offered. The owner needs to invest on buying a new matress for the double bed and buy a normal bed for the living room, instead using a board and a matress to sleep on. The owner is very kind and helpful. If he changes the things mentioned earlier and keeps the sheets clean and ironed then I will use the venue again.
Good communication with the owner before. Checkin/Checkout was easy.
Easy to get to central Amsterdam via public transportation.
Nice that he had umbrellas for us to use given the weather while we were there.
We didnât use laundry, but nice that it was available.
Furniture is a bit of a mishmash of inexpensive pieces. Couch is just a cushion on a wood board. One of the chairs almost broke when my daughter sat in it. Bed did break in the middle of the night on our last night there while we were sleeping, which resulted in a 200 euro charge.
In the end, itâs a spot to stay.
We had a great stay here (family of four, 2 kids ages 12 + 14). The owner met us at his home to give us the keys and show us around. He is super nice and helpful and communication throughout was great. The home is as-pictured. The location is on the outskirts of Amsterdam which obviously has its pros and cons. We loved having plenty of space and a quiet place to return to after a long day of sightseeing. We also loved exploring the neighborhood which to us felt like the Amsterdam equivalent of an NYC borough like Brooklyn or Queens. We had some of our best meals of our trip in the neighborhood: must recommend Bar Bachrach and Selam Afrika for dinner, Dovers Dog for brunch and ish van oost for ice cream. To get into the more touristy part of the city you do need to bike (we didn't try, too crowded in town) or public transportation which was plentiful.
The apartment is located in a very quiet and peaceful area, east of the center of Amsterdam. This part of the city is interesting in itself (could perhaps be compared with the London docklands): residential houses, "docks" adapted to their new use, some remarkable modern buildings, with open landscapes on the IJ river and the near islands. There are restaurants, shops and a supermarket within a walking distance.
But most of the time you'll want to visit the center of the city, of course. You can reach the central station by bus in about 10-15 minutes or, even better, you can rent a bike (as we did) and be completely free and indipendent (one bike costed 12 Euro/day in the bike rental near the house).
The apartment is not new, but fine and pleasant to live. We were three people: two slept on a double bed in a separate room, the third slept in the living room, on a sofa bed. The householder is a kind and helpful person, he shared a lot of information with us.
My wife enjoyed Philip's hospitality in his 3rd floor apartment overlooking one of Amsterdam's many canals. He is an efficient and caring host. Our only issues were completely beyond his control (nearby construction) that created noise beginning around 6:30 am. That said, we enjoyed our 3 night stay and Philip's hospitality.
This was a perfect location for a slightly longer stay in Amsterdam (11 days). The kitchen works well for simple meals. There are multiple tram lines you can walk to in about 15 minutes (lines 26, 14, 7, 3). Philip was very nice and gave us a map showing us some amenities in the area.
Some things for future guests to know:
1. The oven is more like a large toaster oven. Perhaps that's typical in Europe.
2. The clothes washer is convenient to have. It is high efficiency so it takes 2-3 hours to run.
3. There is no longer a TV there. It wasn't a big deal since COVID quarantine requirements were dropped about a month prior to our stay, but it would have been nice to know it had been removed from the apartment prior to our arrival since it was in the listing.
4. The internet speed was really good.
5. The couch in the living area is more like a bed for a third guest rather than a couch to lounge on.
6. The balcony is along a canal, although you may not be able to tell from the photos.
7. The apartment is on the fourth floor with no elevator, which is fine for anyone planning to do a lot of walking around anyway.
8. This is the owner's regular home, so some personal belongings will be there.
I would consider this place for a future stay.
The Apt. was great with a very nice balcony. Phillip was a great host!
We fell in love with the apt. and would stay there again> Phillip is an designer artist with so many beautiful ink drawing all over the apt. Very comfortable. Clean and organized also.
