Sparse furnishings with basic supplies... but roomy, comfortable and very clean. The location is very lively, with traffic and people. Easy access to Metro (only two blocks) and grocery shopping. Our experience in Madrid was wonderful...it is a fabulous city.
We loved the neighborhood, the apartment was clean, well appointed, not new but fine. But, The city is working on the streets right outside and worked from midnight to 4 am on 2 of the 3 nights we were there. It was too noisy to sleep. Trucks clanging and beeping, backhoes scraping, garbage trucks roaring. So we were tired tourists for our first visit to Madrid. Apartment has great access to everything, nice neighborhood restaurants, beautiful people and weather. Hopefully the work will finish soon. The owner should warn renters, the apartment faces the street.
We enjoyed our 3 night stay in this part of Madrid. Communication with Yadira was excellent and she met us on arrival. She speaks no English but got by with my limited Spanish! The flat is not the most modern but is clean and tidy and everything worked as expected. There was clean linen on the beds and 2 x clean towels for each guest. It's about a 20 minute walk from Atocha railway station/metro, and both Delicias metro and suburban railway (Cercanias) stations are about a 5 minute walk away. When the engineering works are completed next month on the Cercanias network, you will be able to get a direct train from Terminal 4 to Delicias.
The area is a working-class suburb but it felt very safe and didn't feel threatened at all - in fact, we ate outside one night at the tapas bar next door to the property which served good food and was very friendly. There are a number of bars & restaurants nearby, but we found a good spot at the other end of Calle de Embajadores in Plaza de la Beata Maria Ana de Jesus where there are a good number of reasonable restaurants and a lively atmosphere!
Appartement was clean, with in walking distance to supermarket and subway. Yadira/Michael (Appartement manager) were helpful by responding quickly via e mail to any questions. Definitely recommend this apartment.
Yadira's apartment was very spacious, situated in a secure block. It could comfortably accommodate up to four, was clean, well maintained and well appointed. It is situated not far from the city centre, the metro stop Delicas is a five minute walk and bus No.6 stops directly outside the apartment block.
It is an easy 15 min walk to Atocha and the Prado, the Retiro, and several other galleries and museums or you can take the No.19 bus from Paseo Delicas.
Atocha is also the starting point for trains to regional and inter continental cities, and the airport express bus leaves from here.
There was a good choice of shops, restaurants and bars nearby. Yadira's husband was very responsive and although his English is limited and my Spanish non existent, we could make ourselves understood.
