This fabulous historical home was in a perfect location to access all of the old town and central locations of Saint Martin de Re and yet on a quiet street that isolated us from the noise. The owners were wonderful to communicate with and very kind. They allowed us to drop off our luggage early. We had a superb time visiting with them and getting to know the history of their home and the area. We were very comfortable.and would stay here again on a return trip to Saint Martin.
This house is perfect. Itâs utterly charming on a quiet street, just 2 minutes walk from both the start of the shops and an entrance to the huge covered market. It has a large open plan living/kitchen area with exposed beans and several doors that lead onto quiet alleyways where you can sit and have a drink. It worked for both a grandparent (70+) and kids from 6-12 - close walk to good/drink/shops/bikes. We were 9 people - 2 couples, a grandmother and 4 kids. Kitchen was well stocked, and we walked to the market multiple times a day for fresh croissants/cheese/everything you could imagine (itâs open in the summer from 7:30-15:30). Martine who looks after the house was extremely helpful and responsive. We would definitely stay here again.
Il de Re was certainly one of the highlights of our 3 weeks in France. If you are active, make sure you reserve several days to bike the glorious bike trails, all around the island. One thing to note! If you are driving in, Ile de Re is a maze of 1 way streets. Plan your route before you enter - you must come in via Rue de L'Hopital, then by Place de Republique, then on to Rue Carnot, then turn right on Rue Suzanne Cothonneau.
Beautifully restored property very close to great shops and restaurants. Perfect situation to explore the rest of the island by bicycle. Would love to return.
An absolute gem - spacious, full of French charm in an exceptional location
The house is really spacious - 4 good sized bedrooms (designed as 2 kids rooms - one with bunk beds and a cabin bed and one with a small double bed and 2 adult rooms). Two bathrooms each with a bath and shower over bath plus two separate WCs - one upstairs, one downstairs. Huge space downstairs - open kitchen and dining area plus cost living room with separate table, sofas, coffee table etc. Kitchen is equipped with everything you could need - glasses for all drinks, tonnes of plates and cutlery etc, good quality pans, cooker, microwave, large fridge freezer full of ice cube trays etc plus cleaning stuff (only things youâll need are extra loo rolls and hand soap). Washing machine in bathroom upstairs really useful with little kids. The location is unbelievable - quiet cobbled street but 2 min walk to beautiful harbour, restaurants and shops of St Martin de Re. Parking is in secure underground car park a 3 min walk away. Hosts are very welcoming and helpful - responding very quickly to any queries I had before and during our stay.
