Clean and easy to get to town, but for the price a little lackluster. Blow up mattress and only 2 pillows that werenât very comfy. The ad mentions both having wi-do and not, of which it is they donât, which isnât that big of a deal as 1) not a place you really want to hang out when your on vacation and 2) 4g on cell works great. The woods are very close to a road that had loud trucks until about 11pm. The woods surround the yurt but there is not really anywhere to hang out outside, like a porch or fire pit or even much space for a few camp chairs as the lot is just cleared for the yurt and the it is the driveway. Again all was adequate but nothing extra. Also the owner called and texted and tried to meet us quite a few times and frankly that was a bit disruptive to our vacation. I would suggest they create a notebook of any important details they want people to know if they canât be there at the time guests arrive or have people pick up keys from someone if they are concerned about who they are renting to.
The place was perfect for what we needed. A place to sleep and a close location to the spit. Martin was a very nice host and willing to help with any questions or problems. The only drawback is a lack of a shower, but there are businesses that have paid showers close by.
Comfortable bed and just about everything I needed for my time in Homer. Wifi would've helped
Great location and comfortable digs without any frills-my kind of place. Marty made sure everything was in order and even brought over a refrigerator during my stay.
Earplugs may have helped when the early morning planes started flying overhead!
This was the perfect accommodation for my weekend trip down to Homer! The yurt itself was very clean, comfortable, and secure- and what a neat out-of-the-box place to stay. Marty was a great host and was incredibly accomodating and helpful. I loved my trip and would definitely stay here again!
Marty's little yurt is a great place to stay for the traveler looking for simple accommodations at an affordable price. A very clean and comfortable yurt and Marty is right next door if there are any problems.
A few suggestions (as a travel writer, I stay in a lot of places) to make the stay even more pleasant:
- Add a light over the sink so those contact-lens-wearers have some light!
- Consider maybe adding a little refrigerator to the yurt for parents wanting to keep juice, milk, snacks cold for kids (and the beer chilled for adults) :)
- Add a bedside table for glasses, books, devices, etc. I hauled over the chair and it was fine, but it's just a little extra "touch."
- Stick a few packets of instant brew in with the tea. I gotta have my coffee!
A yurt is a unique option and can be a ton of fun for those looking to bridge the gap between tenting and cabin stays. It is helpful to know that a basic, RV-style "head" is what you've got for the toilet, and it may be intimidating for kids or those with mobility issues. If you're cool with that, it's not that big of a deal.
I enjoyed my quick trip to Homer, and Marty's hospitality!
My husband and I visited Homer for the first time this summer, we loved our cozy yurt experience! Our pups were able to come with us which was so great as it is difficult to find property's that allow pets. Everything was as expected and Marty was very helpful. Would absolutely stay here again!
A very gracious host; excellent communication and was kind to show us around the property. The yurt was adequately described- no surprises there. Airplanes can be a bit noisy if you are a light sleeper, but I imagine that is true for this half of Homer.
I was very impressed with how he worked with us through a difficult situation a few weekends ago. I was very pleased with how he dealt with the situation and my family had an amazing time. I would definitely recommend this yurt to anyone!
My husband and I stayed in this yurt for two nights. Our main reason for the trip was to do a fishing charter out of Homer. This yurt is Very coveniently located to the Spit. Marty was very friendly and accommodating. We were hoping to have a campfire, and when we couldn't he brought us a small gas grill to use which worked out perfectly for our cooking needs. We were (pleasantly) surprised to have running water in the sink and electricity. There is a compost toilet right outside the yurt in a covered shelter. The best part was the view from the top of the driveway. My husband would have liked a little more seclusion (too close to hwy for him), but all in all we enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others.
The yurt was nice but more info about the bathroom situation would of been appreciated. The pictures didn't come through until I put my credit card in. It's states there is wifi but there isn't
My husband, our dog and I visited the yurt on a cloudy, dreary weekend for a one-night stay and it was great! It had everything we needed for the amount of time we were there. The owner was very friendly and accommodating and even offered his grill to us for cooking and his bikes to ride to the spit. If we go back to Homer we will definitely stay here again!
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed staying in the yurt while vacationing in Alaska. Marty was very accommodating and even let us borrow the bicycles for a ride to the spit, which is only 2 miles from the yurt. The bed was comfortable just be sure to bring eye masks since there is light coming in from the top. All in all, it was a great time and i would recommend it to anyone looking for a little adventure off the beaten path.
The Yurt location was convenient to the spit and nestled in the trees. You could walk to the back edge of the property and look over the cliff onto the bay. Marty was a very accommodating host. One could hear the small aircraft take off. Overall, we had a positive experience.
