Was in a great location. Be aware there is a bar downstairs, and this is a very active part of town. It was pretty noisy. The ac was being worked on and wasn't cooling properly. The shower door was broken and was difficult to open and close. I put a lower rating for check in because it took 3 hours (after check in time) to get the door access code. Besides that, the response time and friendliness of the service was great. The Maintenace man and cleaning lady were very personable and prompt. Great set up in the apt with 2 en suite bathrooms and nice size living area. Fully stocked kitchen made it easy to prepare meals.
1. The check-in process was rough to say the least. We arrived 7:50pm and we weren't able to fet in until close to 10pm. We along with Vrbo could not get ahold of the host and we couldn't figure out the key code to get in based upon the instructions sent to us. It said last 4 digits of renters phone number, which we understood that as being us. In actuality it was the host's number. I would suggest updating the instructions to be very clear to leave little room for interpretation. I will say we heard from the host the next morning and he shared he was sick, so I give some grace there for that. I'm just happy we figured it out through trial and error.2. The biggest issue we had more than the entry issue is there was a strong unpleasant smell as soon as we walked in. It was a cross between animal pee and old grandma house. We couldn't figure out where the smell was coming from. We used the box fan in the living room to try and air out the apt. It did help but the stinch did linger the whole stay.3. Overall the apartment was clean, but the details were missed. We didn't use the fridge or freeze except to put a water jug in the fridge. I looked in the freezer and there were lots of food crumbs from previous stays. The place could use an overall refresh...linens were dingy, shower door and trim were super water stained, floors buckling in some places. 4. Location was great!!5. The walk in shower is really small. My teen had a hard time in there and she's pretty average size
Had to wait nearly an hour for someone to come open the door because we were not given correct access code. No shampoo or ementites really at this place. Only pro is proximity to square and location, other than that I would never ever rent this place again.
The apartment was spacious with thoughtful elements for storage and convenience. The location cannot be beat with easy access to the San Marcos square with shopping, dining, and nightlife. You can park your car and walk to all of these places as well as the San Marcos river for recreation. Itâs a great place to stay!
We really enjoyed staying here. The historical building had a lot of character. The property has a very convenient location to many sightseeing opportunities. We visited to view the eclipse and this place was close enough to the Hill Country for a reasonable drive. It is a college town so there are lots of eating places. There is a fun Irish Pub downstairs that was nice for a quick lunch and beer. Even though the pub is downstairs the sound really didnât bother us. We heard some sound but the bed was comfortable and we were tired from all the sightseeing we did in the area. My usually noise-adverse husband had no comments about it!
The property owner is very responsive with questions and even came to the property to show us how to use the shower faucet.
The kitchen had everything we needed, although we only used it for quick breakfasts before going out for the day. The washer and dryer are top class and detergent is provided. A real plus in our opinion. There is also a nice TV.
The only thing I see lacking is enough hangers in the second bedroom closet and a luggage rack. Traveling from cross country, we had large suitcases with no place to put them or enough hangers to hang our clothes. This is a minor point though.
All in all, this is a great place to stay. It is a great location to see San Antonio, and Austin, as well as the Texas Hill Country.
This apartment was perfect for our 2 night stay in San Marcos. So many close, fun and yummy places to go and eat. Sean Patrick's just below was fun and has a great beer selection! Root Cellar Cafe for dinner was fantastic as was the Blue Dahlia Cafe for brunch. Everyone was very friendly and helpful at the property!
Great place to stay if you are up for a good time in old San Marcos. Fun town, great restaurants and bars all around, lovely old building. Will be back!
We had an event in Austin- Stayed here because it was cheaper and very convenient. Wonderful location. The Pub below has EXCELLENT food. Check in and out was really easy. We will stay again if we get the chance.
Property was great. Great location next to all the fun stuff in the square. Owner was easy to get a hold of and very responsive. Wish we had found this place years ago! :-)
The property is accurately described.. The property is on the Square area so it's location is great for downtown activities... The unit is up a couple of flights of stairs. so if you are in shape beware... Inside nice open concept with two equal bedrooms and two bathrooms... We encountered a bit of a glitch checking in as VBRO did not send or provide the key box code... I contacted Brian and he was great and helped us get access.
This is our second time at this property and just like the first it was awesome! You can walk to everything downtown and to the Texas State campus. Brian, the owner is awesome and quickly responds to all inquiries. I would highly recommend this comfy condo!
Clean, roomy and comfortable. The apartment had everything we could possibly need and Brian the property manager was accommodating and pleasant. We found Matt who works at Sean Patrick's very helpful as well. The square has a variety of restaurants and boutiques within walking distance or you can opt to make dinner in the kitchen area. A parking space is provided which is really helpful in the evenings when the square is high trafficked. The location is excellent with easy access to local attraction. Sean Patrick's pub has a good selection from which to choose and we enjoyed the breakfast tacos before rushing into our busy days. It was very nice to come back to our comfortable digs and relax. If there are any drawbacks, which may or may not affect future visits, it is the street noise which lasted until the bars close and revelers have totally departed the square. There are sound machines at each beside which work well at diffusing out a lot of the sound. And, the large TV equipped with ROKU is a super nice addition but needs better speakers as the dialogue was often difficult to discern. Overall, a really great experience and a new favorite place to stay when we visit San Marcos in the future.
Stayed here for a small weekend getaway with a group of friends, and we all loved it! The Square is of walking distance, restaurants, and coffee shops! Tubing is not far either! We had a blast! I would definitely stay here again!
I am the owner and the property manager. I have been in the rental property and real estate business for over 25 years. I own several properties, but I have to say this is my favorite. I have lived in Central Texas for over 30 years.
I am passionate about historical buildings, this building was built in 1885. I love how downtown areas are being renovated across the country. This building was renovated in 2005 when I first saw it. Several years later I was given the opportunity to purchase the property. San Marcos, one of the fastest growing cities in the Nation, is a great city to be part of. I have family that attended Texas State, and I am glad to be part of this community.
Love the loft style, the exposed brick, and the high ceilings of this unit. I like to see the views of San Marcos high above the City. Also like that I can simply walk downstairs and have some great food, and watch a few sports events, or just take a casual walk around the square. We also have on site help with any issues. Come down to the pub. Ask for Paul, he can help you.
