Lakeview Cabin Retreat

Thank you for your feedback. We do want to clarify a few points for future guests. Trash from our property is removed by our cleaning team. This is a mountain community with active wildlife, including bears, which visited the area twice during this guest’s stay. The trash referenced was located at the bottom corner outside our gated property. Once we were made aware of it, we still had our cleaner remove it by the following morning. Smoking is not permitted inside our home. A small cigarette bud was found outside the home, not inside the premises. We take cleanliness seriously, and our cleaners put considerable effort into preparing the cabin for every guest. While no cleaning team is perfect, the home was thoroughly cleaned before arrival. Since cleanliness was such an important concern raised by this guest, we were surprised by the condition in which the property was left after a stay involving only two guests. The dog had apparently been bathed in the bathtub, which required approximately an additional hour of cleaning. Dog hair was left on furniture and bedspreads, requiring additional laundering and cleaning, and towels appeared to have been used to dry the dog. The floors were also left in a condition that appeared as though they had not been wiped down for quite some time. This resulted in considerable additional cleaning time, effort, and expense. Given the condition in which the property was left after 30 days, we do question the degree of some of the cleanliness concerns raised about the home on the first day of the stay. We certainly respect a guest having high standards for cleanliness, but we believe those same standards should reasonably extend to how a property is treated during a month-long stay and how it is left at departure. We were advised only one day before check-in that a dog would be staying at the property and were told that it was a service animal. We accommodated the guest accordingly. Regarding air conditioning, we have never advertised the property as having central air. The listing accurately identifies the mini-split system located in the living room, which VRBO Customer Service also confirmed. This is a mountain community where approximately 50% of homes do not have air conditioning at all. The downstairs portion of our cabin is naturally considerably cooler, often approximately 10–15 degrees cooler than upstairs, and we have never found additional air conditioning downstairs necessary. We were also surprised by the comparison to other, larger and more expensive rentals advertised locally. We explained on the first day that if the home did not meet the guest’s needs, they were welcome to choose accommodations that were a better fit. The guest nevertheless chose to remain for the full 30-day stay. This is a mountain cabin, not a luxury resort, and we make every effort to accurately represent the home, its amenities, and the mountain environment. We understand that every property may not be the right fit for every traveler. However, after choosing to remain for the entire 30-day stay, we believe it is important that future guests have the full context when reading this review.

When the furnace issue was reported, we had an HVAC technician onsite within approximately two hours — especially important in a mountain setting where guest comfort is a priority. We do agree the home may not have been the right fit for your needs. The property is a fully furnished vacation rental, and many guests — even during longer stays — appreciate the well-stocked kitchen and amenities provided. Limited cabinet space is intentional so guests have everything needed without bringing household items, with dedicated space and an empty refrigerator available for personal groceries. The home is a two-level property, as disclosed in the listing, with bedrooms located downstairs. When we learned stairs were becoming more difficult, we certainly understood the concern; however, the layout cannot be changed and guests should be comfortable managing one flight of stairs when booking.
