The landscaped grounds at this Headlands Cove getaway feature colorful rhododendrons and a variety of coastal flowers, including beautiful white and yellow Matilija poppies. From both the front deck, you can relax and take in an al fresco style meal. This cottage also features an inviting living area equipped with comfortable furnishings, making it the perfect place to gather with your group and plan your next adventures or maybe read a good book.



The Space:

Experience the charm of Mendocino in this beautifully appointed cottage, offering a perfect blend of style, comfort, and convenience. This northern California Coast vacation rental provides an ideal base for exploring the area, with a host of amenities to enhance your stay. Highlights include: complimentary WiFi, a fully equipped kitchen with a coffee maker, microwave, oven, refrigerator, stove, and toaster (no dishwasher).



This property is designed with families in mind, welcoming both children and infants. Guests can also enjoy the proximity to the beach, garden views, and outdoor seating. For larger groups, this cottage can be rented in conjunction with the Artist's Studio and Main House, accommodating up to eight guests. Linens and towels are provided for your convenience.



Getting Around:

From your door, walk along the this quiet neighborhood's streets to Mendocino Headlands State Park. From the cliffside bluffs, you'll have stunning panoramic views from where you can watch for passing whales, or take the steps down to the rocky beach to hunt for agates. This convenient location is also less than a mile from the center of town! Walk or bike to grab a bite to eat, browse the bookstores, and explore the numerous galleries. You’ll also be just four miles south of Jug Handle Beach and within 10 miles of Fort Bragg and colorful Glass Beach.

We stayed at this Mendocino cottage and overall had a pleasant experience. Check-in and check-out were very easy, and the host was responsive to questions during our stay. The location is convenient—right off the main road leading into Mendocino—and the view of the ocean is truly beautiful, which made mornings especially enjoyable.Pros:Easy and seamless check-in/check-outHost was responsive to concernsStunning ocean viewConvenient access to town and main roadQuiet and peaceful settingTexting and Wi-Fi worked wellCons / Areas for Improvement:Several parts of the cottage could use updatingShower height is not suitable for guests over 5'6"There are no interior doors separating living areas (except the bathroom), which impacts privacy—including during early morning calls while others are sleepingNo cell service (texting okay, but no incoming/outgoing calls)Kitchen amenities were lacking—no wine cork opener, no basic supplies like oil or saltThe stove appears new but the broiler did not work, which changed our dinner plans during a rainy eveningWould recommend future guests bring their own pantry basics and cooking essentialsWe come to Mendocino at least once a year and truly love the area. Headland’s Cottage

Comfortable 1 bdrm cottage in great location. Artist’s Studio is smaller but has magnificent views of the ocean. Cottage has no views.

Great location

The ocean view in the pictures isn’t quite what you get when you sit on the front porch but you are close enough to hear the waves and glimpse the ocean through breaks in the tree line. Our main complaint is that the bed is super hard. My arms and shoulders kept falling asleep as a side sleeper so I tossed and turned all night for the two nights we stayed. The shower head is awkward -a minor annoyance that maybe they can correct.

Just be very careful to distinguish between “cottage” and “studio.”

Just be very careful about choosing “cottage” versus “studio” at this property. Vacasa has ZERO flexibility and it is not super clear from the listing which is which. I knew the property ahead of time, had stayed there before, knew the unit I was trying to get, and still ended up with the wrong one. Great property overall but disappointed with the booking process.

Loved this cottage!

This cottage was the perfect home base for my exploration of Mendocino and the surrounding area. It was just a couple of minutes from the shops, and right across the street is the ocean! The little porch with chairs was comfortable and perfect for reading. The living room furniture was also very comfortable. Suggestions: I would have loved to have had a modern blender to use. I like to prepare breakfast smoothies. Fortunately, there was a wonderful breakfast place in town so I was fine. Also, the heater was sporadic, so I was cold in the afternoons and nights. I should have contacted the property manager, but I just doubled up on clothing and sweaters. I would recommend arriving in daylight!!! I arrived at night, and the whole area (Hwy 1, the streets) was pitch black. With curvy roads and no service at times for Google Maps, it was scary. If I come back to Mendocino, I would definitely stay here again, and I’d make sure to travel in daylight!

A little let down

The place is pretty old, good stuff: Very clean, comfortable bed, SURPRISED little pull out shelf (for my coffee in bed) came out of the nearby cabinet, loved that!!! Front porch (if you can look past all the overgrown weeds) was a nice place to relax, but barely hear or see the water. Some reviews from the other units were mixed with this place because they talked of a fireplace (none here), hammock (none here). There were notes to conserve water but that is hard to do when the water has to run for quite a while before it is hot. Also doing dishes when there is no stopper so the sink can hold water, so running water to wash and rinse

.and no dish towels to dry the dishes since there is no dishwasher. Bathroom sink doesn’t drain very well. Also could use a mat when stepping out of the shower. Luggage holder (2 in the closet) one is broke, has the screws holding legs but needs nuts on the ends or the screws just fall out. I think that is about it
